Earlier this year there were rumors that Ford was thinking about selling Volvo, but those rumors were quickly denied. Now rumors are circulating again that Ford is now talking to BMW about Volvo.
TimesOnline is claiming that Ford is in preliminary talks with BMW to sell its stake in Volvo. Of course sources are claiming that there were talks even though both automakers are denying it.
It was also rumored two years ago that Ford was in talks with BMW about Jaguar and Land Rover although both brands were eventually sold to Tata of India.

Why not? By Ford selling off a lot of their divisions, its helping the company get rid of dead weight and at the same time turning a small profit in the proccess.

on the contrary for will most likely lose quite a bit of money selling volvo. ford paid wayyy too much for volvo, and it was never worth it. they could only hope to recoup some of the cost of buying volvo but no way they are gonna get it all back.

Maby not, you've got to remember that Ford has made huge profits out of Volvo for many years. It's just the last 2 years that Volvo hasn't given Ford major profits. Jaguar and Land Rover however never showed any profits under Ford rule.

Volvo only makes sence if it can continue with its narrowly defined Value Proposition. Volvo is safe green and responsible.
Then scale the companies ambition towards the numerical consequences of that. NOT the other way around, as then you will dilute the Volvo VP, and end up with a Ford/Mazda or worse.
Then, based on that scale, define whether and with whom you need to partner on what.
Are having your own engines so relevant for the 'safe/green/ responsible' message? Does it need to be produced in a Volvo factory? Do you always have to share platform with the same big brother, or can you share the small platform with Renault, the midsize with Ford and the large with ....
Sounds a bit like Chrysler, though Volvo has something to offer whereas Chrysler has none.
BMW and Volvo? Why would BMW want that? Load in their factories? New engine range? Volvo is welcome anyway, without a US1b outlay....

Selling Volvo and Mazda is the stupidest thing Ford can currently do.
It may not affect you yanks to much but remeber this alot of Euro Fords and a lot of Mazda models have a lot of stuff from Volvo's. So selling them means Ford looses a lot where proper cars are built, not those horse and carriage things they build in the states.

They dont own Mazda. They only maintain 1/3 of the companies holdings.
By the way, care to remind me how many UK auto companies are around? You dont exactly have the greatest track record with automotive companies unless you count self-imploded brands that have been sold off.
The two highest grossing vehicles are still the F150 and Mustang. Not too shabby for horse and carriages.
