2011 Chevy Cruze Interior Unveiled Hours Before Official Paris Debut

GM is going to officially debut the new Chevy Cruze at the Paris Motor Show tomorrow, but GM has released official photos a little early.

We've already seen photos of the Chevy Cruze compact that will hit our shores in 2010, but this is the first time that we are seeing official photos of the interior of the car. The overall interior design is aligned with GM's new design theme and draws cues from the Malibu. It looks far better than the current Cobalt interior!

The Cruze is going to launch in Europe first next spring, but we will not see it until the spring of 2010 as a 2011 model.

PRESS RELEASE:

Chevrolet Cruze Revealed on the Eve of the Paris Motor Show

Paris – Today General Motors President and Chief Operating Officer Fritz Henderson and Ed Welburn, vice president of Global Design revealed the all-new Chevrolet Cruze at a special premiere event at the "Le Pavillon Dauphine", located in the heart of Paris.

The event was attended by approximately 350 journalists from around the world, who also saw the reveal of the Chevrolet Orlando show car and the European premieres of the Chevrolet Volt and Camaro.

Media and guests got a first-hand look at the arching roof-line of the Cruze that extends from the steeply raked windshield to its sloping rear pillars and short rear deck, bringing coupe-like proportions to a compact sedan.

"Tight panel-fits and shut lines, a restrained use of exterior trim, a dual bezel design on the headlamps, an integrated rear spoiler - everywhere your eye settles, there are fine details that add to that sense of substance and value," Ed Welburn said at the presentation of the Cruze.

Chevrolet's mantra that exciting design and value are not mutually exclusive is also reflected in the interior. It carries a new level of detailed execution, spaciousness, and appointments that stand out in the segment.

While putting emphasis on comfort, spaciousness and a sporty appeal, interior designers and engineers set a goal to create a cockpit environment that is harmonious, flowing and uniquely inviting to the senses.

"The interior must build a relationship with drivers. It's where they spend their time," says David Lyon, executive director of GM Interior Design. "Fabric is warm and inviting in ways plastics cannot be. It offers unique detail with fibers, colors and textures. Instead of limiting fabric to seats, we spread that warmth and luxury throughout the vehicle."

Another contributing factor to the refined look is an integrated center stack (ICS) design which houses the infotainment display, radio and HVAC controls. It eliminates traditional framing of these interfaces, resulting in a contemporary, flush and harmonious relationship between control heads and outlying surfaces.

Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze will start in Europe in March 2009, followed by other global regions. The arrival of the new compact vehicle spearheads a roll-out of new products for Chevrolet, expected to further propel the global growth of brand.

Paul:

Probably the best GM interior I have seen in well... ever.

:) :

I despise buttons on the steering wheel, but that goes for all auto manufacturers that incorporate this.

Overall its pretty good.

I never understand why they put the hand break between you and the gear shift. Its annoying and not very comfortable when you're in heavy traffic and constantly shifting and using it as an arm rest. You only use the thing twice per road trip so why the hell is it in the way all the time.

Mazda6 Guy:

Bravo!

Excellent interior. Seems like GM is ready to compete in this segment and I think they deserve credit for it.

Paranoyd:

Finally! a decent designed interior from an American car company. Way to go Chevy!

SEALBoy:

Beautiful interior. I will consider this car when I graduate from college in a couple years. Still looks like there are a lot of buttons though.

unknown:

chevy took a que from toyota and copied their interior design(thats not a bad thing)

BillO:

Not bad. Are they actually trying to compete. What has changed?

nobody:

I hope the US model's interior looks as nice as the Euro spec car. Europeans pay so much more for their small cars compared to us in North America. But then again, there small cars come with the bells and whistles that we north americans expect to only seen in a full-size or mid-size sedan. I have a feeling though that when this car is stripped down for sale state-side, the interior will look cheap and dull just like all the other cars in the segment.

As for Chevy taking cues from Toyota for the interior, that's a bit of a stretch. It looks more than the interior from the new Accord. Toyota's generally tend to have very simple yet functional interiors although all there new interiors seem to really suck lately.

SteelCity1981:

WOW why couldn't they make the volts interior like this?

Alex:

It looks nice; I just hope GM uses some decent materials for a change on the interior. I personally find the interiors of most GM products (even Cadillacs and Buicks) feel very cheap. Hopefully that's a flaw that will be remedied in the next few years.

cobaltssman:

the interior of my cobalt ss is much nicer, but that's to be expected

lowest iq:

wow GM has entered the 21st century!!! Only 8 year behind now.

Ken:

Is GM finally getting "IT". Are they going to start building cars with some class instead of the junk they've been trying to pawn off for years? It's about time that North American cars from GM showed style, both on the exterior and interior. The Chevy Cruz looks to have both - but they had better bring it to the Americas or GM is never going to climb out of the hole it has dug for itself.

Allen:

ZOMG! A GM interior that doesn't look like absolute trash! AMAZING! I mean, the center console even looks good. And it doesn't look like it hangs right in the space where your leg is supposed to be when over the gas pedal, brilliant!

Of course, the possibilities of money and success will probably lead GM to dumb it down before it comes here.

Allen:

Oh, I meant that in a way I don't think it reads. What I meant to say was that because GM seems to fear money and success, they won't bring the good interior here.

426Hemi:

@Allen

Don't wory, you got your pont across the first time.

As for the interior, I would rather get a car with one that's cheap. That way I wont feel bad when I rip it a part to install one that's custom.

MetzMan007:

Wow i think this is one of the first threads i have seen that they are not bashing everything about GM and there vehicals. I am very surprised i guess this interior must be nice. can't get the pic on my blackberry for some unknown reason. or this interior must look like some thing that came out of japan cause thats what all americans want to see, an american car turned into jap crap.

nickls3:

sharp interior. it does remind me of the new accord, but thats nice cause i'm sure this won't be nearly as expensive. i'd like to know why everyone thinks it's cool to bash GM? it's nice to know the cobalt ss is currently the fastest and least expensive car out there (okay the sti is faster but far more expensive)
