2010 Toyota Prius Exposed or Just a Good Photoshop?

2010_toyota_prius_rendering.jpg
Toyota is going to officially unveil the all-new 2010 Toyota Prius at the Detroit Auto Show this coming January, but PriusChat has put up some photos that may or may not be of the next generation.

Overall the styling of the car seems more evolutionary and takes some of the cues from the newer Toyota models. The headlights also seem to mimic the shape of Nissan's headlights on the Maxima and soon to be unveiled 370Z. Inside there is a new raised center console, but overall the interior is loaded with plastic.

What do you think? Is this what we can expect to see next January?

puke ... vomit ... sick

Brian :

It certainly looks like the current gen Toyota stuff, but certain parts look "wrong" to me.

The front bumper has what appears to be a place for a pop out head lighter washer (like on BMW or Audi)....

The overall roof line seems to be to aggressive in the rear. They are not going to give up cargo/head room for a different shape (if they are going that route, they will design something other than a 4 door hatch).

I'm not sure I get the shifter console picture... The shifter appears to be connect to the dash area (fine), but the power plugs appear like they should be below the shifter area, but the look like they are down and to the side in the passenger floor board...

I'm not saying this couldn't be a prototype or a test model, but I don't think it will look quite like this. Much like the Volt doesn't look like the original concept.

Justin:

Fake!
Compare how in the full car picture the front headlights sweep back well past the bumper crease. In the zoomed picture, they do not sweep back.

Saheed:

@ Justin

Excellent observation Justin...I can't belive I almost missed that! Anyway, I don't like the styling any more than I like the current Prius.

Tom T:

These could be digital prototypes of where Toyota is planning on taking the Prius. They have hinted before they were going to split the Prius into three models.
Prius "A" a Yaris sized hybrid
Prius "B" a Corolla sized hybrid
Prius "C" a Camry sized hybrid

patman08:

good photoshop

Austin814:

Fake: The steering wheel column is nearly floating and the whole image has been "smudged". Doesnt even begin to look real.

SteelCity1981:

HA dude you just got suckerd. Those are fake photos being put out on the net, this isn't the real deal. Maybe next time the editor should do more fact checking before posting bogus garbage.

lowest iq-ski:

wrong, this is the new Yarius!

Its made in the old Volga factories in Belarus.
Enginereering was done mostly in Belarus, hence the use of submarine batteries (submarines were hybrids long before cars became hybrids).

Josh345:

For those of you that thought this was surely fake, you guys are wrong. This IS the new Prius.

It's sort of funny how everyone thought this is fake. Just shows that no one can tell from the real deal anymore.

Sandman:

Real or Fake, seems it will continue to be one of the ugliest vehicles on the road.

Sam:

Warning to people who drive this car, don't click the link below for the Challenger SRT-10 or you might have a heart attack because of the mpg it gets.

Wayne:

Looks like I was right on the gas prices and Dodge's give back on gas costing over 2.99

Saw on the news that the average for gas was going to fall below 3$ a gallon.

So why buy this heap of plastic, when you can have a nice Chevy Hybrid Tahoe?

Trooper Bri:

"So why buy this heap of plastic, when you can have a nice Chevy Hybrid Tahoe?"

Because the Tahoe is a soft assist hybrid. Unless you drive it solely in a downtown area like Los Angeles, you aren't going to see much more than 14-16mpg.

By all means buy a Tahoe to help out GM, but don't buy one thinking it's going to get good mileage.

Want the worst hybrid on the road? You have to go back to Toyota, specifically Lexus. Over 5 years, fuel savings don't come anywhere near the added cost of of the hybrid model over the gas model.

to the skeptics:

Toyota has confirmed this as an authentic photo of the next generation Prius.

Sandman:

different headlights in two of the photos.

Bradford:

Trooper Bri... you say buy a Hybrid Chevy Tahoe... I hope your Trooper high.

$50,000 for a Tahoe Hybrid 2 wheel drive, $53,000 for a Tahoe Hybrid 4 wheel drive.

Thats pretty Expensive, speeking that the LS Tahoe is only in the mid $30,000's and you could probably talk the dealer down. SO what, an extra $20,000(ish) or so for 5 better mpg in the city and a couple better freeway mpg. Is it worth it? Umm no. Heck, get the LT and save $10,000.

If your going to buy a full sized SUV thats a hybrid, then buy the Chrysler Aspin hybrid. It costs about $45,000 which is about $7,000 less and it has a better warranty.

Bradford:

Plus I work at a Toyota dealership and trust me, a Toyota is more reliable and longer lasting then any Chevy out there. Sorry Chevy lovers, Toyotas got the 1-up.

Sequoia VS Tahoe..... Sequoia
Tundra VS Silverado..... Tundra
Corolla VS Cobalt..... Corolla
Yaris VS Aveo.... Yaris [the Aveo is built in Korea btw]
Camry VS Malibu..... Camry
Impala VS Avalon.... Avalon [not even close!]
4-Runner VS Trailblazer.... 4-Runner
Highlander VS Traverse..... Highlander

Landcruiser, FJ Vs.... :-(

Prius VS.... o, good luck with that Volt! I'll see on on the side of the road soon enough...
