Cadillac's All-New 2009 CTS-V Ready For Launch
The 2009 CTS-V, Cadillac's 556-hp expression of ultimate performance and luxury, begins production this month with initial sales beginning around November 1. The latest in the brand's V-Series of high performance models, the new CTS-V is intended to reach the top of the world's most desirable luxury cars, at a starting price of $59,995 in the US market.
"The launch of the new CTS-V presents a compelling proposition for luxury and performance enthusiasts," says Mark McNabb, North America vice president, Cadillac/Premium Channel. "The CTS-V is a strong statement about Cadillac design and technology and a new member in the club of the highest performing luxury cars."
The CTS-V, based on Cadillac's critically acclaimed CTS sports sedan, expresses the full extent of the brand's dramatic design and technology. Designed to enter the stratosphere of the world's fastest and most exclusive luxury sedans, CTS-V includes advanced performance technology such as a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine and Magnetic Ride Control, the world's fastest reacting suspension.
The new CTS-V comes standard with a nearly complete collection of features, including a hand-crafted cabin, a 6-speed manual transmission and a Bose surround sound system with a 40-gigabyte hard drive with a USB port. In addition there are a few options available, including a new 6-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted shift buttons, 14-way adjustable Recaro performance seats, microfiber interior accents and a large "Ultra-View" sunroof.
"Along with the new Escalade Hybrid, the CTS-V is a key aspect in Cadillac's ongoing renaissance, with dramatic designs and very sophisticated technologies for luxury consumers," McNabb said. "These two new high-tech Cadillac models pave the way for a series of new Cadillac models coming in 2009, including the upcoming CTS Sport Wagon and SRX Crossover."

I'll go out on a limb and guess that it will be better the any 500hp car from Europe or Asia, maybe even the 400hp flavors.

I'm not a real fan of Caddy's, but I gotta admit me likey.
Maybe they're aiming for the "I don't care about mpg" crowd. If you have to ask, you should be at another maker's dealership. :P

A brick it may be, but its a very very fast brick.

@ Ben, 4,250 lb actually
For comparison:
M5 - 4,034 lb
RS6 - 4464 lb
And of course the CTS-V has more power and torque, be we all know how high power, front engine rear drive American cars don't seem to put their power down to well.

Caddy has made a huge come back in the recent years and this car just follows suit. I'd drop 60K on this over an RL any day of the week, if I could afford it that is.

Top Gear tested one a while back and it got pretty good reviews. There only sticking point was the interior, which they said didn't meet the same quality as Audi/BMW...it's a GM, I didn't think it would.
Of course it's got more power and torque than either so meh...

Goodnessgraciously, Cadillac does a GM-trick-from-the-sixties (big more powerfull engine) and the world should take note?
I dont think so. There is nothing clever about this idea, and the market wants clever things right now.

It actually should get decent gas mileage as it is basically a de-tuned ZR1. Heavier car which will hurt the mileage...and most people will drive it like they stole it...so basically who cares about gas mileage? LOL.

Maybe it is just me but I think this car needs a window in the hood so we can see that nifty supercharger from outside!!!

I assure you that the people who own this will not drive it like they stole it. They'll drive it like all the people who can afford new M5s and Corvettes.... like grandmothers.
I don't think I've seen a brand new Corvette/M3/M5 haulin' speed around town.

Is it a CRT monitor on the dash? I didn't know they make them anymore.
Anyway, nice front end. Way better looking than the regular chrome grill. But they (that is pretty much all American manufacturers) should pay more attention to the back end. Looks like Caddy ran out of budget designing the front and hired some part-timer to do the rear. It is just incoherent. If a cheapo Hyundai can afford multi-element rear lights (seperate signal, brake, running lights), a $60K Caddy should have fancier rear lights to match the jewel-like front ones.

This car will be a Drag Strip Queen/Stoplight King. But out on a real track, it'll just be too heavy...

BMW335i...
Go read some reviews of how fast it is on the track before you open your Bavarian mouth.
The fact is, this new CTS has already been dubbed as one of fastest 4 door track cars of all time.

Ashburner...
I've read the reviews. No doubt impressive. However, the wording regarding the actual car that did the lap brings to question the exact configuration used.
"The car itself had no performance modifications outside of those planned for consumer production..."
What might those "performance modifications" be, and what is considered "for consumer production?" R compound tires? Performance supercharger pulleys from the ZR1?
Even autoblog gives a slight disclaimer... "7:59.32, which is believed to be the "fastest documented lap time" for a production sedan. Even if that turns out not to be the case, it's pretty freakin' fast..."

that time was with the automatic car, left in auto, not paddle shifted. and if youre paying 60k for a car you probably dont give a damn about gas mileage

A "Performance supercharger pulleys from the ZR1" most likely doesn't exist for a few reasons. First, the super on the ZR1 is larger, 2.3L vs 1.9L on the CTS-V. The LSA only has one inter cooler vs the two on the LS9. Peak boost has been reduced from 10.5 psi to 9.0 psi. So sure, you can up the boost to ZR1 levels and make some more power, or can you?
The LSA uses forged rods and valves along with the pistons are aluminum vs the titanium rods and valves and forge pistons ones used in the LS9. The LSA uses the same dual fuel system as the LS9, but pressure has been reduced from 600kPa to 450kPa. Lastly, the LSA doesn't have a dry-sump oil system like the LS9.
As for "R compound tires", the ZR1 doesn't even get those as an option, so I highly doubt the CTS-V will. Instead, the CTS-V uses the same Michelin Pilot Sport 2s that the ZR1 has, and most likely much smaller then the ZR1 tires, so the advantage goes to the ZR1.
The best is the CTS-V makes 383 lb-ft of torque at 1200 rpm, that's more then an M5 at its peak at 6100 rpm. If the ZR1 is also any indication, the CTS-V will most likely get better gas mileage then an M5 as well.
