VW Concept Pickup Unveiled...It's a Preview of the 2010 VW Pickup

vw_truck_concept.jpg
VW has officially taken the wraps off a concept version of its upcoming pickup truck that is going to be shown off at the 62nd IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover.

According to VW β€œThe concept vehicle – executed in as a cleverly designed rescue vehicle for marine use – offers a preview of the fourth model series by the commercial vehicle manufacturer.” The concept hints at a new VW pickup that will be offered in Europe late next year. It will be offered with a choice of gasoline and diesel engines. VW's all-wheel-drive 4MOTION system is also expected.

Production of the new truck will start in fall 2009 in Pacheco, Argentina.

Peanut:

Yay finally a car maker that has listened to the market and designed Rescue Vehicle for Marine use.
I have been saying for years that we need this an VW is the first to company to realize this.
Everyone should buy a Rescue Vehicle for Marine use. I will look forward to seeing you all at the Dealership when they become available.

Jung:

What?

gilly:

Oh HELL No!!!!

This thing looks like ass!

Jeremy:

Well GM, Ford, and Chrysler have nothing to fear if that is what the truck looks like. I think it maybe uglier then the Ridgeline, but I am not sure.

Jeremy:

Kind of a side note but Chrysler is releasing info on three new Hybrids today (1 o'clock) I am looking forward to seeing them, I like Chrysler's styling.

@Peanut: Thanks for my morning LOL. I owe you one.

You know, back in the 60's people would have laughed at the idea of VW designing an American style pickup truck. But note they are thinking of marketing this in Europe. One would think that, with all our years and experience designing these trucks, and our focus on that type of vehicle over the last decade or two due to a booming market would have given us an unassailable lead.

Yet, here is VW, sending out feelers. Take note: We don't know what Europeans want in a pickup truck in these days of high oil prices. Do they demand big power and built like a rock? Or do they want to carry big stuff, while burning less fuel? If it's the latter, this 'looks like ass' VW could very well kick OUR ass.

I love it! Does it come with employee pricing as a standard option?

Topper:

Whata hell am I gonna do with a bed that short?

BigO:

A better question is how am I going to get my fire extinguisher quickly with the bars on the bedside. Its way up in the front!

With fuel prices topping the equivalent of $9 USD in Europe I'm pretty sure they would like a fuel efficient truck...

Not that we'll ever see it in the states, but i like the look of it better than the Avalance, Ridgeline, or Sport Trac for sure. The front end is slick, but the rear looks quite American. Speaking of Sport Trac, it appears that this VW truck also has a bed seperate from the body.

Curious how this vehicle is being developed for marine use. Is the whole thing made out of old Crocs ?

From what i can see of the underside in the pics, it appears to have a live rear axle and i can see what looks like lower shock mounts hanging down. Wonder if they mocked these "concept" pics on top of an existing vehicle, or they're really going old school on this platform ?

:(:

2009 and no one has yet to come up with something better than the Ford Ranger which has changed little since 1982.

Trey:

i like it...with the exception of the fact that im not a lifeguard. so i dont get why they are making it exclusive for marine use...or am i misreading something?

BigO:

The marine use was there "clever" way of unveiling it. Instead of just showing it in a normal way, looking like a normal truck, they tried showing it in a different way. Just their way of releasing the photo.

Brian :

Why does everyone give shit on the live rear axle? Fine it's "old" technology, but it's solid and proven to work. Frankly if I was a contractor, or hauled/pulled lots of stuff I would want a solid axle vs. cv joints. (Not that CV joints can't be designed to take the power, just seems in a long term perspective a solid axle would need less maintenance/repair).

:(: got it right Ranger/B3000 Rules!!

THATS IT NO MORE VW'S FOR ME!!!!!! they have continued teasing us with concepts/vehicles for to long now EX:(Scricco) and ect,ect..... Now this when are they gonna learn we need small pickups with cheap gas millage/diesel power in the USA every other country has theres but wheres ours Screw VW ill stick with my pre 67 air cooled VW's. And keep buying our over rated GAS HOGS here in the USA no wonder we use more oil than any other country. I think this is just a way for them to continue screwing us with high gas prices freeking liberals.......................
