Next-Gen Cadillac Escalade Could Move to the Lambda Platform...Yet Another Lambda Crossover

2008_cadillac_escalade_platinum_official.jpg
GM has already announced that the automaker has postponed plans to redesign its large SUVs, so what does that mean for the next-gen Cadillac Escalade? Well GM may build the next-gen Escalade off the same platform as the Acadia, Outlook, Enclave and Traverse crossovers.

GM has also cancelled plans for the V8-powered Buick Enclave Super, which could make its way under the hood of a Lamda Escalade. The main question is will GM make the Escalade look just like the other Lambda crossovers? Well if GM does give the new Escalade the greenlight expect it to have very different styling than the rest of the Lambda lineup....something edgy like the CTS.

Wonder what's going to happen to the Escalade EXT? Well GM is rumored to be considering a unibody pickup to replace the Escalade EXT and Chevy Avalanche..something along the lines of the GMC Denali XT concept.

I doubt it will replace the 'Slade, probably just supplement it. The Chevy Suburban will always be around, so GM can amoritize the cost by tarting it up and selling Cadillac Escalades. And the EXT and Avalanche are built off that platform, so I'm dubious of them developing another one just for those two. The Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Escalade still look fresh, so there's no real reason to redesign them immediately anyway.

Saheed:

Celebrities are always buying the Denali and especially the Escalade. Why not continue with its traditional big boxy design?

Man From Utopia:

Even though the Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon will stay around, it is a good case for Cadillac to build the next Gen Esclade on the newer platform just to help increase it's CAFE Standings.

Whatever Cadillac does to the next gen Escalade don’t turn it into another cateria. Horrible car, the damn thing was basically a Malibu with Cadillac symbols on it and that was the major diff, but you paid a lot more for it because was a "Cadillac". I feel sorry for those people that got suckerd into buy that car.

My parents own a 98 Catera (opel) which I drive almostly weekly now, and after 10 years of service it has been a wonderful reliable car. I am not sure where you get the Malibu idea from, they are different cars with completely different focus. Obviously, you must never have owned a Catera (we have/are), and are just bashing Cadillac. Are you thinking Cimmeron? (if you are, then I agree). i believe they stopped making Catera in 2001, 7 years ago.

If in 10 years the biggest issue with the Catera my parents own and still drive was the battery which needed replacing every 3 years is your version of 'suckerd', wow.. That is not our experience at all. Maybe you didn't like the cup holder...

As for the un-reliability issue, true, GM goofed up big time recommending 100K mile service where the base 'opel' car in Europe was 60K mile service, which would of prevented most of the failed engines in the US. When propertly maintained (replacing the main drive belt @ 60k instead of failing around 100k was a MAJOR factor), they were great cars. To make matter's worst, GM would not honor their mistake - that was a sad reflection on Catera and GM. We simply kept a normal 30K, 60K, etc. maintainence with excellent results. Later model year Catera were very good cars after they worked a few bugs out.

I don't even pretend a 1998 lexus ESxxx could compare to a 1998 Catera. I frequently walk by a late 90's lexus in the parking lot; looks dated and vastly boring (old) compared to the Catera. I would not trade this car for any same year lexus even if brand new. I still feel that the biggest suckers are those buying a Lexus, I mean rebadged Toyota.
