PRESS RELEASE:

The Chevrolet Orlando show car, making its world premiere at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October, is a clear indication that Chevrolet is considering an expansion to its portfolio with a seven-seat multi-purpose vehicle with distinctive sport utility-like design, adaptable seating and impressive interior space.

Based on the recently announced all-new Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan, the Chevrolet Orlando show car carries Chevrolet’s signature design language into a new vehicle segment. It explores the potential of combining the versatility attributes of a sport utility, a family van and a wagon in a single execution.

Chevrolet Orlando cuts a distinctive silhouette, replacing conventional monocab proportions with a more defined contrast between the hood and windshield lines. With flared fenders instead of a flat side-body, Chevrolet Orlando Concept has a muscular stance that gives it the appearance of a sport utility vehicle, yet it offers dynamic ride and handling, excellent fuel efficiency and easy entry thanks to its car-based architecture.
Inside, the five-door Chevrolet Orlando is designed to meet the needs of families and those who need plenty of seating capacity with adaptable, theater-style seating in three rows that comfortably accommodate up to seven occupants. Whenever load carrying becomes a priority, the spacious cabin can be quickly transformed into a large cargo area. A generous 2760 mm wheelbase and wide front and rear tracks provide Chevrolet Orlando with outstanding interior roominess.

Chevrolet’s latest-generation 2.0-liter turbo diesel, developing 150 hp and 320 Nm of torque, provides a powerful and fuel efficient powertrain.

Following the recent announcement of the all-new Cruze sedan, the Chevrolet Orlando show car promises another page in Chevrolet’s product portfolio and another step in Chevrolet’s plan to offer customers around the globe impressive value, quality and fuel efficiency.

Just to get it out of the way...1st!!

I like the exterior and that it has a turbo diesel engine. I also like how they're marketing it as a sport ute, minivan, and wagon in one. I think this is a another step in the right direction for GM.

I don't like how the center console is sloped. I think it would look better if the gear shifter was parallel with the cup holder, like most vehicles are now, and the slope on the HVAC controls weren't so extreme. The steering wheel looks like a direct swap from a Honda civic too.

This concept looks great and I would hope that they put it into production as is. Based on how the Volt came out though, I doubt they'd keep the edginess of the concept. Still, I look forward to seeing better shots of this vehicle.

Tim:

Do you think they would bring to the US? I don't, not with the diesel.

Brian :

Yeah, I don't see that doing to well in the States... I don't know anyone that has a "minivan" that doesn't have kids. And at this point most people are either going small SUV or into that "other" suv like category. The avant/wagon never really took off over here.

And GM makes diesel?! (j/k) Yeah, that'd never fly over here. It'd probably get the 2.4L ecotec. Maybe 2.2, but with a 7 passenger rating I think it would need the torque.

Rod:

After seeing what they did to the Volt, I would expect this to look like an Astro by the time they actually get one on a dealer's lot.

Saheed:

Nice looking steering wheel, but I don't like the look of the gear selector's position.

Jung:

Looks cool. I'd consider one if it wasn't a Chevy.

Andrew:

I hope they really bring this to the states... It is a modern design which isn't designed too radical like the japs...

adrian:

chevrolet is on fire..
i think, they're the only part of GMC that can compete.

SteelCity1981:

So is this Chevy Orlando going to come with the Mickey Mouse package?

You know I kid around about this, but watch something like this happens if this ever becomes a reality.

I wouldn't put it past the GM marketing guys to do something like that.

Trooper Bri:

Since "Chevy" and "Concept" are in the same sentence, who knows if and when this thing will ever roll.

I don't see why most cars even need an auto trans shift lever anymore. Plenty of cars no longer have keys and lock cylinders, or throttle cables. Foot on brake, and push a button. I drove a Sterling or Kenworth, or some big truck last month that used a push button selector.

Look at the Nissan Quest. That was one fugly dash shifter. Even the Civic had some hideous dash shifter too. Made me pine for an old Blue Bird school bus with a floor shifter that had a 16" throw ! ;)
