Almost 300,000 Chevy HHR's Recalled

2008_chevy_hhr_ss_red.jpg
Almost 300,000 Chevy HHR's are being recalled to fix a storage bin latch issue.

Apparently the latches to the storage bin are defective and have been shown to not meet federal safety compliance test standards since they allow the storage bin to open during certain crashes.

GM is going to send storage bin latch reinforcement kits to current owners who have the option of installing them themselves or taking it to the dealer for the repair. Parts are expected to start being delivered in November.

D!:

I wonder if GM decided to recall the vehicles on their own or if they were sued by someone.

Either way it's nice that a recall was done because of something people might deem insignificant.

Brian :

I think there should be classifications of recalls. The media would take something like this and blow it all up and sensationalize it. It's for a latch...woo-hoo.

Now if it's something that involves the actual propulsion of the car, yeah that needs to be pointed out. Fuel leaks, engine failures, brakes, suspension, anything that could cause an accident...

jebus:

I'm surprised they sold 300,000 of these..

gm0n3y:

@jebus,

I was going to say the exact same thing. I've never seen one of these on the road (maybe they're not sold here in Canada?) and its amazing that they managed to offload 300k of these ugly beasts.

MM007:

The Reason why they sold so many is because they are the size of a small SUV, they are inexpensive, and they drive like a small car like a cobalt. because they are on the same chassis as the cobalt. i have not driven one myself (and they do sell them here in canada see them all the time in calgary) i have been in one though. the optional stereo is sounds very good i would even compare it to my bose in the caddy. seats could be reworked not so great in the back fronts are ok. these compete with dodge witch is not as nice insid as the calibur HHR. its for people who want a station wagon (SW) but hate the looks of them. this looks a little better then a SW. the front end thought needs to be reworked not so pretty.

longdxcommuter:

Actually, the HHR is a strong seller. It is based on a Cobalt chassis, drives rather well, and gets 30+MPG. There are some cheap materials inside that marr the image of the whole car, but otherwise it is quite comfortable. This is a rather appealing alternative to a small SUV, since it holds as much and gets great gas mileage.

Jeff:

I had one as a rental car when I visited Maui and it was a pleasure to drive.

SteelCity1981:

The HHR's are a lot better then those god awful PT Cruisers, thank god Chrysler had enough sense to get rid of them.

gm0n3y:

I guess its better than a PT Cruiser, but those are probably the 2 ugliest vehicles on the market right now (the Aztek is dead right?). PT Cruisers are pretty uncommon where I live too, though I do see them occasionally. Its hard not to notice such ugly vehicles.

don morrissey:

i own a 07 hhr lt (sunburst orange) and havn't found anybody who doesn't like the looks of it ( it is a retro car resembling the 1950 chev sedan delivery cars with windows)
i like the idea of driving from Albany N.Y to 100 miles past halifax, nova scotia with only having to stop for fuel once at calais maine., its a 2.4 litre 4 cyl gas, 5 sp,(1450 kilometers 62 litre, 18 galfuel tank)
i cant understand anybody calling them ugly after seeing the three ugliest cars on the road.........honda element,...toyota scion, and pt cruiser
