GM officially unveiled the 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP earlier this year and now according to the SAE the final output from the 6.2L V8 is 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft. of torque.

In addition to the higher output compared to the G8 GT, the GXP version also has a manual transmission option. 19-inch wheels and huge 14-inch front discs are also part of the package.

You'll have to wait until sometime next year to get the ultimate G8.

Trooper Bri:

Cool. Something to harrass new Camaro owners with.

johnson:

this is just a flatout cool car. especially for the young family man type.

Jung:

Yay, another douchebagmobile.

Mathew:

I'm liking that torque curve. Now if only I could afford one of these.

lowest iq:

the news is NOT that this car has a gazillion hp, but that Pontiac managers DONT read newspapers, DONT watch the news, are NOT in touch with their customers preoccupations.

Pontiac shuts down, now THAT is news or Pontiac introduces Voltstiche. THAT is news as well.

Some OLD advice: sell your shares.

Luke K:

HAHAHAHAH u yanks have been jipped

Our HSV range has the 6.2L with 317kw compared to your 309kw. Plus our ones look heaps better. Just go to hsv.com.au if you don't believe.

Oh plus we have one with the 7.0L in it called the W427. Nothing beats having a sedan with a huge corvette engine.

Also note our GTS and W427 have 20inch rims, I guess they will be an option for u guys.

Looks to me like they are basically giving you something inbetween our Clubsport R8 and GTS.

Note that we can also get the ute(Pontiac ST) and the wagon from HSV with the 317kw 6.2L as well. Why don't they just give you all the models. I think GM - USA is screwing with ya's.

lowest iq:

@luke K

i believe the ozone hole is right above ya.

carman:

Did anyone read the WSJ today and see that the GM is selling less then 2000 G8's a month. It said that they considered these cars unprofitable and was looking at cutting them from the line-up. For what I thought was going to be a good car has generated very little in sales. A perfect example of not looking at consumer wants.

Luka:

Well,

They should kept Pontiac GTO and not make this ugly looking car.

Engine is nice...

Jung:

@carman

then != than

:) :

way better than the aussie gts me thinks. the aussie car looks like a confused engineer took a big GM platform and made it look japanese by adding 12 air intake vents in random places, lots of jagged edges, and snagged a massive mitsubishi evo front air dam.

i mean look at the fog lights. on the GTS it has these huge massive black plastic shrouds around two tiny little fog lights. in the g8 they at least molded them into the body lines. the g8 also doesn't have those ghastly and useless gills behind the wheels.

g8 is sleeker. the gts is jagged mess.

Jung:

my mums ass != to her face. i know its similarly pimply and wrinkled but please people.

alex:

Saw a G8 GT on the interstate yesterday, really nice looking car. Plus if driven gently im sure it can also achieve pretty good gas mileage. (I would bet mid 20's) I think its a good move by gm, to me it looks like the car people will buy if they cant afford the cts-v. (Or just the regular G8 vs CTS)

Timeless:

If everything they make did not look like a crappy grand am they might actually sell some.

gm0n3y:

In my opinion, this looks really good for an American car. I've always been surprised that they don't sell more of the G6 series, its better looking than nearly every other GM mid/full-size (except possibly the Malibu).

Rod:

I was interested in this car until they started holding back the manual transmissions (on GTs). The GXP isn't worth the extra $$$ to me, and I don't want the GT with an automatic. I hate it when companies leave options out to try to steer you to a higher end model.

And on the "what people want" topic, there are plenty of new V6 G8s available around here, but the G8 GTs are all sold out.

Trooper Bri:

I'm all for retaining the Holden fascia and tail Luke. Very clean lines. While the plastic cladding is gone, i'm still entirely sick of Pontiac's split honeycomb grille from the 90's.

OTOH, if they do bring a Holden straight over, everyone here who whines will now whine that it looks like an Acura (or some stretched out comparison).

Given the choice of this G8 or the new Camaro, i'll take the G8. The platform is bit heavy, but with a few add-ons, it would make a great sleeper.

"Our HSV range has the 6.2L with 317kw compared to your 309kw."
Seeing how a fair number of owners that buy this car will likely tweak it, i doubt that 6hp is going to be noticed or missed Luke.

jake:

problem with the gt is that a g35 is quicker (and others) are just as quick.

I saw one at my local dealer and they had it priced $5,000 above sticker! Why pay that much when I can have better gas mileagle out of a v6 that makes 50 less hp (and even more less torque) yet somehow is just as quick (and has no quality concerns).

I wonder what this extra 50 or so horses is really going to bring in the quarter mile. GT barely breaks 100. 104, maybe 105. a 911 beats that with 50 less.

Makes no sense...

Matt:

I'm in Charlotte NC and there is no shortage of G8 GT's. They are on every lot, any color or options. It's not a bad car, but I am on the list for the GXP. Spend the extra 4-5 grand, get the extra 50+ hp, 6-speed, brakes, etc. With a detuned LS-3 it won't take much to see another 50hp. I also love the idea of a good looking 4 door sleeper. This car has a ton of room as well, the backseats is just as big as the front seats and the trunk is huge. Granted it doesn't have all the ammenities of the BMW or Infiniti but it will be more fun to drive.
