2009 Nissan GT-R Starting Price Increased 10 Percent to $76,840

2009_nissan_gtr_price.jpg
Nissan has adjusted the pricing for the 2009 Nissan GT-R.

The starting price for the GT-R has increased 10 percent over the 2008 model to $76,840 for the base model and $79,090 for the GT-R Premium model. Prior to September 5th, the starting price was $69,850.

Nissan claims that the price increase is due to increased raw materials costs.

The 2009 Nissan GT-R is powered by a 480 horsepower 3.8L turbo V6 mated to a dual clutch transmission and all-wheel-drive.

PRESS RELEASE:

NISSAN ANNOUNCES PRICE ADJUSTMENT ON THE 2009 GT-R

Nissan today announced an interim price adjustment on the 2009 Nissan GT-R due to increased raw materials costs. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP)* of $76,840 for the GT-R and $79,090 for the GT-R Premium model are effective immediately. Destination & Handling (D&H) is $1,000. The adjusted prices do not apply to customer orders already in dealer hands prior to September 5. The initial GT-R pricing was established nearly a year ago.

To date, approximately 70 percent of the first year allocation of GT-Rs for the United States market have been sold as part of a pre-sale program that has been underway since February 2008. The first customer deliveries of the limited production Nissan GT-R supercar began on July 7, 2008. The GT-R is available only through officially certified Nissan dealers that have met a number of strict sales, service and facilities commitments, including dedicating a master technician to GT-R service. A searchable listing of the 663 GT-R Certified Nissan dealers is available to consumers on nissanusa.com.

All 2009 Nissan GT-Rs are equipped with a standard 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 producing 480 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque, backed by an all-new, paddle-shifted, dual clutch rear transmission and a world’s first independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system.

cobaltssman:

what a ripoff! you can get a nice cobalt ss for a lot less than that.

brad:

A cobalt SS is absolutely no comparison to this car.

muscleoverrice:

you know that sad part is that even though the dumb ass that is posting under cobalt ss man is trying to be funny its true. most ppl that are going to waste their money on that car arent going to ever use its to full potential. im not saying buy a cobalt ss. im just saying buy something less expensive that is going to give you trills with out really breaking the bank for performance. Like a BMW M3! lol

muscleoverrice:

and that car is ugly as fuck!

Saheed:

@ muscleoverrice

Judging from your comment, I'll bet money on it that you own a Pontiac Aztec (you have poor taste in cars).
Anyway, the price isn't too bad for such a technologically advanced car, but I have to agree with your first comment anyway.

leguerre:

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I do NOT like how the GT-R looks. But, at the same time, I can't afford it... so, no biggie.

Mike M:

While I do think the styling on the GTR (and with all newer vehicles for that matter) is a step back from the previous version (R34 Skyline) I do think it looks a lot better than any other coupe (the Corvette doesn't count because it is a 2-seat "sports car"). I know...I know...the GTR really is a sports car too and the back seats are tiny (just like the Supras were) but they can still be used in a pinch. I'd still take this car over much of what's out there now, including stuff more expensive. It's funny how when a good looking car comes out people punish it if the engine isn't perfect. In this case the car has a great motor, AWD, electonics...etc. so people have to turn and focus solely on the looks. No car will be perfect to everybody as you seen when you read the comments on any article on this web page.

muscleoverrice:

@Saheed:
I own an M3 sedan and a 1969 camaro ss. Dude this car looks like a dying Japanese woman. the back end is great but the front is hideous.

:\ :

im with muscleoverrice, its good from the back and the side profile is ok, but the front is just a mess.

good car but way over priced. thought this was supposed to be a low budget super car. they way missed the mark. would rather have the corvette.

anon:

@:\

it is a low budget super car. this blows most cars off the pavement in performance at this price point. it will challenge some porsche models and some of the italian supercars on the track. besides, the GTR actually costs less than a BMW M5 and 6 series... and they aren't even supercars.

TrainRekS:

it will challege ALL Porsche models and ALL Italian supercars on the track.

brad:

Don't know why there's so much bitching about the looks. This car wasn't designed to look nice, it was built to haul ass and stick to corners like shit to a blanket.

If you want pretty, buy something Italian.

CEO:

Damn, looks like I'm going to have to layoff some more workers this christmas and give myself a bigger bonus so I can buy this car.

Hangman:

Well here a GT-R will set you back about $150,000AUD, that is including new tyres (you have to replace the perfectly fine ones it comes with because they lack ADR codes), stamp duty, etc.. A BMW M3 will set you back $157,000AUD, so the GT-R is still cheaper. Not sure what the price will be when/if Nissan start importing them themselves.

$150k AUD = $125k USD, so you are still getting a much better deal than here.

Stig:

After all the hype and all the positive reviews, it is hardly a surprise that they have raised the price ... it is still worth it though ... better than BMWs, Porches and cheaper than the italians ... not sure but it might be the best cornering car today ... 4.5/5

Larry:

Leave it to the guy who owns a camaro to tell you what is ugly...what a joke.

Sean:

Larry said:
"Leave it to the guy who owns a camaro to tell you what is ugly...what a joke."

Did you just try and infer that the 1969 Camaro SS was ugly? FAIL

adrian:

i have to agree with stig. It was tested by Stig in Top Gear in their race track wherein the result of performance of GTR is close to a lot of Italian supercars. So a GTR is still a bargain for rich people looking for performance and a bit of practicality.

t_r_nelson:

You can keep it. I'll take the Corvette. If you can spend that much money on a car, you can spend some more and get the 'vette.

cobaltssman:

In the famous words of Jeremy Clarkson " Its a Datsun"

Jimb:

When this car's pricing was first announced, it was theorized that they were under pricing, and breaking even, or even losing money, it to make it look more appealing. As they are now raising the price, I would say those rumors can be laid to rest.

In terms of posters on here stating that it emperically "can" outperform anything, I'd have to ask; are you basing your opinions on professional reviews, first hand knowledge, or how it performs in a video game? I would guess there are several people in the first category, none in the second, and a sadly high number in the last. To state clearly:

There is no comparison from video games to real life performance.

Period. People bitch about a car's (any car's) "handling," or "acceleration," or any other attribute, but have only done so in a GT game? Please. Until you've driven it for real, you are not qualified to make such comments without reference.

And the '69 Camaro -is- one of the best looking cars of that era.

Dennisil:

@muscleoverrice your a prick...

Dennisil:

@muscleoverrice = The GTR is faster and will go down in history as a cool car further than your rusty Camaro and your M3 junk you own.. I don’t care what you have to say, you made a horrible observation and then to backup your "expertise" you opened your wallet to show us what a big boy you are but don’t forget that not everyone is impressed by a turd M3 and a Detroit built junk you think is a "Classic" ha ha (Classic is a 74’ Ferrari, a race car from the 30’s, a Tumbler from Batman ect…). you are the reason why America cant move on, your a lingerer your linger in the past, you buy cars because you have a small wiener, you hope we give you credit for your investment into cars but we laugh as your a light weight and need to realize that on here nobody cares who you are or what you own, just tell us what you like and don’t like about the article in question and make sense.

Your Camaro was nice in its day but now its 40 years old and you realize that unless you have a car in a cryogenic freezing machine or a air tight bubble that you’ve got rusting frame action all around this bad boy, and its going to fall apart before you can stop it as you’ve dumped the rest of your funny money into a ha ha M3, (I don’t care if its an 08' M3) its not a icon unless you want to move to Berlin and live amongst those creeps...
In closing you’re a jerk , your attitude is shit, your cars are weak, your arguments have no grounding in reality, and you finaly go fffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkk yyyyyyyyyyoooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrsssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeellllllllllffffffffff…..

Thank you
(/Rant>

es5150:

Looks like they are finally charging for the extra 10% in hp without restating the specs...

Larry:

@Sean

Whats the matter? Couldnt my statement about the POS rust bucket Camaro be any more obvious? Moron...

And yeah, I think I'll take a Corvette over the GTR...as soon as I grow bald, age a few decades, and wish to drive the same pile of plastic as every other clown in my city. Vettes are old news, and they're a dime a dozen on the streets - please, i'm bored.

Mike M:

For the folks claiming they would rather have a Corvette over this car...which version are you referring to? I'm assuming you're referring to the ZR-1? Hypothetically speaking, if I could only have one car it would be the GT-R....it is somewhat practical and fun. I know I know....most people that buy a GT-R or a Corvette usually have multiple cars...but if someone happened to be able to afford only car and wanted the best for their money I'd say the GTR. I'd definitely consider a ZR-1 (not a base Corvette as those are nothing nowadays) if I had something else practical/luxury on the side for everyday driving. Too bad I can afford none of the above so what does it matter.

RX-7 Guy:

TrainRekS:

This isn't a track car. Too complex which means that it will have reliability issues at the track. The other problem too heavy with AWD. That will lead to excessive tire wear far outweighing any advantage in handling that it gains

It's the red headed step child of the street Queens.

Subpra:

There is so much BS going on here I can smell it back at Channel.com so I had to come over and see what was cooking.

I like this one, "too heavy with AWD. That will lead to excessive tire wear". How does that work? Do you know what AWD is? Where did you get this idea?

If you understood anything about the GTR you would know it has a high bias to the rear wheels and the front are only activated during moments of wheel spin. Therefore, reducing tire wear, increasing performance (stability) and acceleration. In addition the AWD system in the GTR has also been positioned just rear of centre on the car to improve ballance. So here it actually benefits the balance of the car negating any concerns about added weight.

Any car can be a track car. That is another dumb statement.

muscleoverrice:

@Dennisil: arent you the guy that only made like 12k this year? Dont talk about the way i spend MY money. look dont be an asshole. im just trying to say that you can spend that money a better way. Sure the M3 isnt as quick but its more practice and it givers me a good woody. The GTR is faster but when are you going to really open it up? Grand Tourismo doesnt count buddy. Why spend 80k on a ugly car that youre never going to use to its 7:29 ring time when you can get a lotus exigetfor about 50k and have a hell of a funner time driving it.

426Hemi:

I would rather have the Viper SRT10 ACR, IT dose the ring in 7:22.

muscleoverrice:

@426Hemi
that car is the devil. lol it will kill you

TrainRekS:

@ RX-7 Guy

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!

@muscleoverrice:

Looks are in the eye of the beholder & the Exige costs around 65k which puts it in the same price range as the GT-R.

@ RX-7 Guy

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!

Mr Future:

This car is just beautiful. Compared to it a Ferrari looks like a big girls blouse and any American muscle car like something run over by a monster truck. I'd even take it over an Aston Martin, which is more 20st century.

Paul:

To Jimb's point, I have not driven an R35 GTR...yet.
I did fork out the $20,000 deposit to be able to buy one however, and am eagerly awaiting my car to be produced and shipped to me. I based my buying decision on those professional reviews you were discussing, and a week of driving with a still legal in Canada R33.
While I did like the new M3... alot! it was just a 'nice car'. The GTR is excessive, but I think I'm finally ready for something of that caliber.
Oh, and before the flames start, I do plan on racing it as much as possible on a track, and I was more intersted in a pure performance car than an all around car like the M3.

Dennisil:

excuse me for my outburst, I was jerking off at the time and my rage arose with my apparent lack of stamina as you can tell by the abrupt climax at the end of my post. yes I am a minute man.

btw i was jerking to the gay asian rise magazine. this month featured the GTR with a half nude Kim Jong Il having a stroke while fornicating on his GTR.

jettto:

M3??? dont they have some engine issues after 2 years or so????
heard they HAVE LOTS of engine issues because of the VANOS system.....

neway...
i think the corvette is ugly
and the gt-r is awesome!

godZilla28:

Although the specs on the GT-R are impressive, I just can't get excited about this car. The performance is certainly there, but the styling isn't. Let's face it: from the rear it will be mistaken as a Chevy Cobalt, and the front and sides look like any garden variety Nissan-Infiniti. Driving down the street, I can't imagine this car turning any heads, except those of motor heads. It's way too ordinary looking for a super car. And it's way too expensive to look this ordinary.

When I was a kid, Super Cars looked dramatically different from ordinary cars. Besides the performance, they also had unique styling features that immediately set them apart from the boring, boxy family cars. Now, almost all cars are wide and low, have air dams, rear wings, flared fenders, custom alloy wheels, big exhaust pipes, high-tech headlights and wide tires. Average cars now also perform almost as well as or better than the old Super Cars. But you could spot the old Super Cars from a mile away and they would gather crowds of envious onlookers wherever they stopped. They had incredible sex appeal, and most of them still do. They were exotic, exciting and unique.

Unless I lived next door to a private test track and had unlimited (free) access to it, I think I'd prefer an early 1980's Ferrari 308 GTS to the GT-R. Much more practical for real world driving and much more exotic than this Nissan. And it's a car I could stare at for hours in my garage: as much a piece of fine art as a fine automobile.

GTR lover:

I think that it looks better than any american car because american cars are garbage they r worth noting specially the viper arc and the ZR1!!!!!!!!!!!!! HA HA HA

Although this thread is a bit outdated, I had to post as it's some of the funniest shit I've read in some time now. I highly doubt 99% of you have even seen a GTR in person. Either video games, magazines, or on the net is about as close as any of you have come at the time of these posts. Since than, some of you have seen it, and probably feel really fucking stupid about your blind posts. You've probably read some PROFESSIONAL reviews now, and are realizing how ignorant you really are. STYLING??? please!! It's styled for performance down to the smallest body line on the car. As far as personal preference on the looks, yep eye of the beholder 100%! I don't own a garage full of cars, but do own this one, and know first hand that it is a million times more fun than an m3 (what a joke)! 69 Camaro (NICE)...those who know anything about cars understand the that there are great cars from 40 years ago to today, and it's about preferrence, not the guy who owns the Cobalts opinion. If he had an opinion worth reading, he probably wouldn't have made such a comparisson. Cobalt is fine for what it is, the GTR out weighs it in EVERY category from styling, to handling, to performance, all the way to longevity, and most of all technilogical advancements. As I found when I was shopping the GTR, pictures do nothing for this car, they cannot capture the real body lines, or the depth of this car. Even videos are no comparrison. From someone whoowns one, drives it regularly, has ran it on a road course as well as the 1/4 track (not very good at either), the only negative things about this car are 1. It's a little boring to drive do to it's advancements (think the movie AI with Will Smith, it practically drives itself), and 2. The manufacturer doesn't want ANYTHING aftermarket on this car (performance or styling), again due to it's advacements. Everything about it is spot on, and even a front lip will alter the air flow to the brakes, and engine. They built this with everything in mind. So all of the haters out there keep hating out loud and dreaming deep down... In one word, the GTR is "AMAZING". Drive one, and your $20K ricer with $50K in altezza tailight and grocery cart rear nonfintional "wing" upgrades will leave you feeling a bit dumb. I do appreciate the muscle cars guys, and have/had 1 or 2 of my own. The only problem there, is it takes the same money to get anywhere near the engine performance alone, the rest (handling, comfort, convenience, etc., etc.) isn't possible with 10 times the money. Just my .02.....

@gt-rR35: as someone else who owns a R35 and reads TR regularly:

Styling is subjective, and as much as you might not like what the poster's have to say, they are entitled to their opinion. I agree with you however, that the car looks a lot better in person than in some photo's.

While Nissan did spend a lot of time wind tunnel testing the R35, several reputable aftermarket companies have come out with sensible upgrades to various aspects of the car's aero package that will improve it's track performance. No 3 level rice wings here.

I totally disagree with your 'practically boring to drive' assessment of the GTR, but then I drive mainly on a track with mine, and no offense, I probably push mine a little harder than you do.

While I don't have the Hennessy package for my GTR, they are the largest reputable tuner I can think of that offers a decent improvement to the GTR, 600 hp, and 615 ft/lbs of torque. I have been making 585 whp, and 560 ft/lbs of torque in mine for almost a year. I have never damaged my tranny, I've tried 3 different aftermarket suspensions, at least 6 different types of tires, and a host of other modifications to the car.

Everything in the car is not 'spot on' as you put it, but decently optomized for every day usage. Most modifications I have made that don't have to do with power production, have definately resulted in some sort of trade off in the car's dynamics, but that doesn't mean Nissan got it perfect, just did it well.

My 0.02 on your 0.02. Nice to have another R35 owner on TR though!
