Spy Shots: Production Chevy Volt Caught on the Set of Transformers 2!

chevy_volt_transformer3.jpg
Earlier today a photo of the interior of the production Chevy Volt hybrid surfaced and now we have some shots of the car on the set of Transformers 2. What's exciting is that these our are first look at the production version of the car.

GM has released several teaser pics of the highly anticipated Chevy Volt but now we can put it all together with these small fuzzy shots.

Also I was lucky enough to have dinner with a few GM execs tonight and a few things were confirmed:

-The interior shot that surfaced today is indeed a shot of the production car
-There are now 85,000 hand raisers for the car
-The Volt will be officially unveiled between now and the LA Auto Show in November
-GM has set an expected on sale date of November 2010
-There are some internal discussions about spreading the Volt to other brands like Cadillac or maybe even creating different versions of the Volt within the Chevy brand.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will hit theaters on June 26th, 2009.

Lets roll out!

a transformer can re-charge this car in a minute.

I'm amazed at the hare-brained discusion....
spreading the volt to other brands....
Volt is the name of an electric car for Chevy.

'Electric' is the technology. Yes, it should spread. Legislation might even force you.

Yes, Cadillac should do electric cars and add a trick or two to anchor the tech/luxury flagship status of the brand.

The linking theme across GM can be a simple 'e-' infront of the type. I hope GM doesnt spent too much of my money on consultants figuring this one out.

Looks like a 4 door Scion TC

Sandra:

Finaly, another hybrid that wasn't beaten with the ugly stick and isn't an SUV.

Andrew:

This looks really nice. I hope it actually comes to the showroom untouched and not dumb down.

Mazda6 Guy:

I hope the car doesn't actually look like the pictures....

...because then I won't be able to get one for another 5 years!!!

GM has the chops to introduce winning designs, the problem is the bean counters and whoever is in charge of finalizing the production versions of their cars who ruin great designs (read: G6).

I really, really hope for the good of GM that this car delivers on its promise so that other automakers go in the same direction and introduce new technology like this.

teaser here, teaser there. If GM doesn't show me the goods soon, I'm about to go off and buy a cheap whore instead. (prius?) =P

doh:

lets hope they have different interior color schemes for that ghastly white center console. would look killer in black or carbon fiber.

Trooper Bri:

The Camaro was called Bumblebee.

What's the Volt called?
Tazer ?
Jumper Cable ?
Bug Zapper ?

SteelCity1981:

What are they going to call this car in the series, the pruple nurple?

And this is why i don't get excited about GM concept cars, because they look like this in the end.

I'm actually pretty impressed, they haven't completely ruined the design. But the rear is a bit more raked that I would expect a "hatchback" to have. I guess for weight and aerodynamic reasons.

Bill:

Fianally a car from GM that interest's me. I hope they have success.

D!:

I'll take one in black!

Carter:

Maybe I'm just dreaming here, but in ten years (hopefully) when we get another order of magnitude of energy density out of our batteries, we're going to have some amazing electric muscle cars.

I'm thinking about cars with 4-200hp motors hooked to each wheel individually giving the stabilization system the ability to apply power as well as brakes in different driving conditions.

Is this just a fantasy?

Sam:

If these become popular I bet the price of electricity will skyrocket, but you can't switch electric companies like going to a different gas station to save on the price. Instead of big oil- it's going to be big electric and the electric companies will take advantage of its monopoly and become greedy.

kw:

'expected on sale date of November 2010.'

I know this is what they've been saying all along. But that's two (2) years out. Toyota will have been selling plug-in Priuses for a year by then. While I have high hopes for the Volt, and like it's version of hybrid drive better than the Priuses, I fear the Volt might be showing up too late for the party.

Fingers crossed.

Oh God, the interior looks like an Ipod!
Yuck!!!...Pass...
