Lexus IS Convertible to be Released Next Year and a New Lighter IS-F is in the Works

lexusisfblue.jpg
AutoTelegraaf is claiming that Lexus is going to release a droptop version of the IS next year.

The IS convertible will feature a folding hardtop like the soon to be dead SC. It will be dubbed the IS250 C and IS350 C. Those of you that were hoping for an "F" version of the new convertible will be disappointed to hear that an IS-F convertible is not in the works since Lexus doesn't feel like it makes much business sense.

But IS-F fans can rejoice that Lexus is working on a new lighter version of the IS-F sedan. The new lightweight IS-F is currently undergoing testing. On a sadder note, Lexus is not going to release a GS-F sedan, which would have competed with the M5.

Rozz:

Great looking car. I will have to see a picture though of the convertible to see if i like it. I high dout it though. It'll probably turn out ugly as hell like convertibles for the PT cruiser or eclipse.

dracolnyte:

but i still want a GS-F D:

:| :

looks more like a rally car with all the fender flares and crap. thought they made luxury cars this is more like a fake ricer kit.

Noya:

While I love the IS350 (and have driven one), I can't stand the look of the IS-F.

The bulging hood and fake quad exhaust makes me sick, similar to the way the ZR1's plastic hood window showing more plastic.

And the lack of a dual-clutch or manual gearbox is equally disturbing (just like MB's performance cars), though it does rip to 60mph in 4.1s and covers the 1/4 in the mid 12's at 114mph+.

dude:

They're trying too hard to be M3, MB, CTS-V, etc with the big V8 and body configurations yet are afraid to lose the ricer crowd as fall back so they stick the hideous body kit on there. People that can afford these cars don't do the ricer thing though. And the car can't compete with the others dynamics-wise. They fail at both. Granted, the VW Violet Blue (R32) paint is one of the nicest colors in history, but Toyota has got to come up with something of their own rather than just copying everything from everyone being not as good as any of them at anything. That is, if they really want to sell vehicles other than Corollas, Priuses, and Camry-based vehicles. For 16 years now their primary successful vehicles have always been Camry-based. If they are going to move past that then they are going to have to do something more than just copy a billion different other cars and mashing all together for genera-mobile.

Ummm?

You know they made this car, it was called a Supra. It was pretty sweet, dude....

For a couple hundred in upgrades you had a 500+ hp rear wheel drive coupe...that's not bad. Or going back a bit the earlier generations of MR2's (while not as powerful as the Supra, still an interesting concept).

Toyota has, and can build pretty interesting things. I just think right now they are playing it safe. I'll be interested in seeing what comes out of the partnership with Subaru.

Dennisil:

The MR2 was not only interesting it was what the NSX couldent be due to its price, it was a poor mans Ferrari, I have rescently driven in a friends 93' MR2 turbo with heavy upgrades, what can i say it is the most fun you could have with $5K in my opinion he is pushing 400hp and the car weighs nothing, its prone to oversteer but a good driver can keep her going good. 12's int 1/4mile and he kept up with 600cc sport bikes fairly well on our way to a rally to Las vegas last week.

dude:

Mr2 was a poor man's Ferrari? Why, because it had a mid-engine just like the cheapest Ferrari does?

The car never handled worth a damn. They had to completely redesign the rear suspension to stop people from dying in accidents from unpredicteable snap oversteer (literally), and it still didn't handle well. The 4 cyl iron lump of an engine was heavier than a GM LS V8 despite having half the power.

TrainRekS:

heh , dennisil has never heard of the fiero.
