One of the more exciting things, besides the cars of course at the annual NAIAS Auto Show in Detroit is GM’s Style event. This year the exciting pre-auto show party featured some of GM's exciting model's on stage with artists such as Mary J. Blige and Maroon 5...there were of course lots of hot models as well.
One of the benefits of the invitation-only event was that it boosted Detroit and GM's profile by luring celebrities and stars to the city. Unfortunately the celebrity studded event has been cut as a result of GM's $15.5 billion second-quarter loss that leaves little room for events such as this one.
Instead of spending money on an event that featured hot models, cool artists and an open bar, GM is going to focus its time and money on GM's centennial celebration next month. In addition GM is going to focus its advertising around key model launches and its brands to get more in touch with consumers.
GM also recently announced that the automaker is no longer going to sponsor the Academy Awards.
"The Emmys and Oscars are prestigious events, and the decision to release them was a difficult one - especially after over a decade of involvement," spokeswoman Kelly Cusinato said. "Timing is always an important consideration for events such as these that concentrate many commercials into one evening."
From 1998-2007 GM bought more advertising time during the Academy Awards than any other company, spending an approximate $97.1 million.
I'm just glad that I got to attend the GM Style event this year. :)

GM's marketing team is idiotic.
I subscribe to Road&Track, arguably the most anti-truck/SUV mainstream automotive magazine in the USA.
And what do the marketing whiz's at GM do?
They take out a multi-page fold out insert in the middle of a sports car comparison...which went straight into the trash.

Noya's personal crusade against US auto is hilarious. He's personally offended by ads in Road&Track now. Wonder if he'll cancel is subscription in utter disgust. I hope the staples in the rest of the magazine held together after your roid rage fit. loser.

BRAVO!
This is what im talking about heres an actual cost cut that i would have made if i was in charge. Thank you GM your on the right track, these rediculouse events are helpfull to build brand image but if you ask me they should be sending all there money to Volt R&D to ensure there future.
ford and dodge will follow shortly with there own sponserships being withdrawn from variouse events.
BRAVO!BRAVO! finally the accountants get to speak there mind.

These GM Style events were stupid anyhow.
"Instead of spending money on an event that featured hot models, cool artists and an open, GM is going to focus its time and money on GM's centennial celebration next month."
Gee, here is an idea GM. How about focusing that money on the "quality" of your cars instead.
