Ford May Kill the Taurus X and Mercury Sable

According to The Detroit News, Ford is planning on reducing the production of the Taurus X and Mercury Sable by half starting next year.

The Taurus, Taurus X, Mercury Sable and new Lincoln MKS are all built at Ford’s Chicago Assembly Plant. Reportedly production of the Taurus is going to continue. It is being speculated that Ford may eventually kill off the Taurus X and Mercury Sable due to slipping sales. Sales of the Ford Taurus X are down 25 percent this year and Mercury Sable sales are down 8 percent from last year.

The two models simply don't seem to fit into Ford's future product plans. The Taurus X is now being overshadowed by the recently introduced Ford Flex. Also Ford has announced that future Mercury products will focus on small fuel-efficient vehicles. Since the Sable is a large sedan it may no longer fit in the lineup.

...!!!...:

yes, kill them please.

wymer100:

Why not just kill off Mercury all together?

gilly:

'BOUT DAMN TIME!!!!

Rod:

What? Mercury is going to become the econo label. Sounds backward to me. You'll run off all your existing customers, and people looking for what you're switching too won't think to look on your lot.

Saheed:

The Sable isn't too bad.
I rode in a rented Sable, and the ride was so comfy, quiet, and plush. The interior looked like it was really good quality as well. The HVAC was very well organized and the tranny shifted very smoothly.

The only two negatives: engine sounds like an old pontiac Grand Am from outside, and the exterior styling was bland.

lowest iq:

about time. even that family has turned their back to it.

SteelCity1981:

The Freestyle and Taurus X never made much sense to begin with on two diff fronts. The mpg's for these crossovers weren't good vs the competition in the same class which hurt its sales right off the bat. Not to mention ford already has the Edge and now Flex in its crossover lineup, so there is no more room for the Taurus X. As for Mercury, if Ford was smart they would put it on the shelf and put volvo in Mercury's place instead. Mercury's are nothing more then cloned Fords now of days and cloned cars don't sell, ask GM.

Patrick:

If they cancel a car that no one would buy, does it make a sound in the woods?

al:

Kill these two, along with the Flex and Edge. The boxy no style designs just look old, generic and dated a week after they are launched.
