The recall is to fix an issue with the passenger side front airbag that may not deploy in an accident. Apparently according to the NHTSA cracks can develop in the passenger seat that could make the seat detection system fail thereby causing the airbag to not deploy.
The recall involves the 2006 BMW 3-Series, 2004-2006 5-Series and the 2004-2006 X3 SUV. Fortunately there have been no reported injuries due to this recall.

If this was about Cadillac, it would be another excuse to bash on it. But since it's about BMW, I'm sure it'll be another couse for praise.

Pros:
At least it's not randomly deploying...oh that'd suck. It might smudge your makeup...
Cons:
Face + Dash = really smudged makeup.
At this point if a recall doesn't involve the ability to have the car randomly kill me (fire, airbag deploy while moving, seat breaking, brakes seizing...) I kind of glaze over.

BMW's are great cars but the electrical problems they face are ridiculous. They make it nearly impossible for someone to buy a used BMW without having to shell out big bucks down the line.
As far as the airbag issue, it doesn't bother me when a company does a recall, they're being proactive.

It may be the ultimate driving machine (debateable) but I guarantee it is not the ultimate crashing machine.
