The very first 2009 Corvette ZR1 went for $1 million at the recent Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction.
Dave Ressler won the car and the money generated by the sale was donated to the United Way. Luckily once the ZR1 finally hits showrooms it will not retail for $1 million and instead a much lower $103,300.

i wonder how fast this will be in th 1/4 since apparently stock z06 can run 10.99999's with stock tires! probably a 8 sec car.

according to motor trend, quarter is at 11.3
are you on crack or something.
even the mighty veyron needs 10.2 for quarter, what makes you think a souped up ZR1 will runs quarter at 8sec.

That's utterly the most absurd comment i have heard so far.
even if possible, maybe twin turbocharger, even with another turbo charger, sub10 and a SS don't not seen right.
Please tell me, what are some aftermarket mods you have put into your Cobalt.
Most Sub-10, i have seem are souped up Supra, Skyline, TT SRT10, and rarely any corvettes. And i could swear I have never seen any sub-10 SS. Also no one from the
http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=52 has run under 10.

What idiot would spend 1 mil on a Vette? Even 103k is too much.

@cobaltssman
so what you are saying is that you can beat a Z06 in the quarter? i didnt realize a 200 or 260hp (depending on year) could run sub 10 sec quarter mile passes. If thats the case, im off to order one right now.
unless of course this is that jackass that posts as cobaltssman.

a bunch of idiots around here again. Why did the guy payed 1m for the car? To have the 001 car and to give something for charity. That was the whole purpose of it. You must have an IQ of a dumb fly to ask yourself "What idiot would spend 1 mil on a Vette?" in this case...
Damn, this board is getting full of morons and teenagers lately... I'm missing the people posting around here a couple of years ago...

$1m is not a lot of money to some people. If you are worth $100m and you spend $1m on a car, you still have $99m.
This comes down to bragging rights and the fact the money went to charity. What if this guy gives away $1m or more every year? Not that big of a deal to some people.

Actually this car did not cost the new owner a dime. You read he spent 1 million on this car and I see he has generated over million dollars on it by eventually selling advertising rights to it.....
(Sporting events, car shows, etc.)
That is why most of the people here will never be rich!

Well there goes the argument that people had about this car being better than a Ferrari because it was "affordable." What a bunch of BS. Until maybe next year (if Chevy even sells enough and isn't hurting too much to continue production) when the "first kid on the block" syndrome wears off this car will likely be off-limits to the people that support it so much. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a wonderful machine with great performance but it's sticker price was already out of the working-man's budget (especially in our current economic woes) and now it just made even slightly upper class folks cry. This is just like how the hopes of many Shelby GT500 lovers were stomped when the car came out and dealers had already sold them all to rich guys 6 months in advance for well over the MSRP. Keep looking at a stock Corvette (which many enthusiasts would not be happy with because they'll keep wishing they could afford the ZR1 they really wanted) or the Camaro SS (which I doubt will last long in today's market).

I like how this thread has nearly half the posts of the GT-R thread below it in a few hours. Then below that, a Camaro thread with 66 posts, then another Camaro thread with 58 posts two days before that, and three days before that yet another Camaro post with 66 posts. 5 days, 190 posts.
Seems to me like GM doesn't even need to advertise with post counts like that on a blog that is a lot of domestic bashers.
Oh, and CVK, it was 10.981, not 10.99999. According to MT, the Z06 runs 11.5 quarter. People get 11.1-11.4 consistently with a Z06. ZR1 has better tires, though still run flats. Good driver, sub 10s consistently if MT is saying 11.3. The issue will be launching it, even more so then the Z06.

okay i posted the first one. the rest is someone else. if you look at the camaro forum ppl are talking about stock z06 running 10's that is why i made a SARCASTIC comment. and no i dont run 10's in my cobalt the best has been 13.8.

if stock Z06's can really run 10's then they put every ricer("tuner") to shame. they invest $100,000's into wack imports to be able to claim they have a 10 sec car. Great work GM!

@muscleoverrice,
Most tuners/ricers are car enthusiasts who take pride in the time and effort thats put into their ride. Why purchase a finished model project when you can take the time to put it together yourself and call it your own?

because they are just wasting their money. imgaine if you invest the difference from a 10's subaru/ civic/nissan even a supra (even though supras are muscle on the inside) into a z06. thats a 8/7 sec car for sure. 100k into a z06 is scary

papabear is reading my mind. Most of these threads could be straight from YouTube.
Remind me again why we are comparing FWD cars modded to do nothing but 1/4 mile rips against a Corvette? Lets be fair and throw those same tuners onto Nurburgring against the Vette.
Other than moving people around, the Apple platform and the Orange platform cannot be compared fairly.
"Most tuners/ricers are car enthusiasts who take pride in the time and effort thats put into their ride."
While that statement is true (and for anyone who mods or builds any ride), i'd put the number of tuned vehicles we see in our shop that we collectively call excellent to less than 5%.
About 25-30% do very good jobs, maybe 40% are good, and the rest require Dramamine one hour in advance before looking at. Electrical/Body being the worst offenders.
My favorite this year was a Packard converted to a woody wagon, with a f-body/y-body driveline. No cheating on the body either. All wood. Amazing.

Aren't donations tax deductable?

He won it at auction, he didn't buy it out right.
And while donations might be tax deductible, the IRS won't give you back all the money you donated. Depends on the amount and how much you donate per year. Also, I think that donations can't put your net income below zero either after all other write offs. I could be wrong though, not exactly a tax man or lawyer. Point is, no matter how much you donate, the IRS isn't going to give you it all back come tax time, just a small fraction.

if u dont get why a guy would pay a million for that car, then u obviously havn't watched the barret-jackson scottsdale auction. thats what they do. that had i think 5 or 6 other cars that sold around there and that money usually goes to some sort of a charity thing like that.

I watched the video and it sounds like he (Or his company) donated 1 million dollars to United Way for the rights to buy the first ZR1.
So in a way, paying that much isn't a bad deal after all. Heck he could have donated that much and not get anything.
