Mitsubishi's Lancer Sportback is set to debut this fall and reportedly the automaker is working on a crossover version that will debut in early 2010.
This computer generated image of the Lancer Sportback X features a raised suspension, protective body cladding, new alloy wheels and a revised front grille. Powertrains have not been confirmed but it is expected that the crossover version of the Lancer Sportback will get the same turbocharged engine and all-wheel-drive system as the Lancer Ralliart.

REALLY? Apparently Mitsu hasn't actually picked up a Subaru brochure in a decade.
So it's basically a bigger version of the Lancer? Geez I wonder who thinks this crap up. You can't exactly just make it taller and bigger and keep all the same great performance. You might as well buy a Forester or something. Or a Baja.

The white hand-shaped decal on the fender is a nice styling touch.

Other than the color I kind of like it, I could see it selling in some numbers I mean it it better looking than most CUV's and it should have a bit more street cred with a slick AWD system and punch turbo 4, if they can keep the MPG around the ralliart with 25 mpg highway I am sure there is a group of people somewhere who would like this. I would rather have the plain version.
I really want to see Mitsubishi make it, A world with no Evo's is a sad place I don't want to live in.

@Travis:
I don't think we have to worry about Mitsubishi going anywhere soon.
I guess the Lancer is now the new Eclipse. Now that's something they need to work on. The Eclipse is confusing. It's big, heavy, and the V6 needs some work. It's not a "sporty" coupe, that's now the market space of the Evo (even though it's not a coupe :-( ). I think they either need to drop the current incarnation of it, or solidify it's place.
As a side note I can't understand why car companies can't unify their engine choices. Mitsu has two 2.4L engines (168hp all aluminium, or the 162/160 hp cast iron block/al head). They have similar power, similar fuel economy. WHY....?

@chub:
my thoughts exactly. Looks like a volvo.
but nothing wrong that that tho. Volvo cars may not be slick but they generally smart looking.
Mitsu designs may not be very innovative... but its better than what Subaru is doing at the current moment!!
