Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series Unveiled...The Replacement for the SLR

mb_sl_65_amg_black_series.jpg
Mercedes-Benz is going to unveil the awesome SL65 AMG Black Series at the Paris Motor Show this fall, but in the mean time here is the first photo of the SLR replacement.

The Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG is powered by a 661 horsepower (738 lb-ft. of torque) twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 and will hit 0-60 mph in less than 3.9 seconds. The engine is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with AMG’s Speedshift software. Mercedes describes the Black Series as a technology showcase so most of the technology on this car will eventually make its way down to the other AMG models. This car may also influence the upcoming SLC, Mercedes new gullwing coupe and convertible that will be released in 2011.

Carbon fiber is used in the hood, fenders, roof and trunk, which helps the Black Series come in at 550 lbs less than the SL65 AMG.

Sadly only 200 of these cars will be coming to the US next year, but at $320,000 most people won't be able to afford it anyways.

Gary:

The looks kind of remind me of the older Skylines for some reason, not to say they ripped off the design or anything though. I like it, too bad I could never afford one.

Noya:

Pretty wild looking. I would love to see some more angles.

Pete Z1:

Z1>>> 3x times cheaper and faster LOL!

Timeless:

ZR1 cannot compare as it is SOOO much cheaper in the interior and does not have a hard top convertible either.

This car is pure sex.

Those that hate only hate because of jealousy.

It is ok to like this car AND other cars...really it is....rofl.

Hangman:

Looks too much like someone just bought a stock merc, added a kit and built the wheel arches out. Check wide body conversions of other cars to see what I mean. You would think that AMG/Mercedes could make it look more natural.

SlowandMellow:

Yes, it does have that performance after market look, like from some of the German Tuners. Looks nice anyway, and has a ridiculously large engine. 6L TT V12 should make more power and torque than 661/738. Brabus has 730/974 with a similar engine.

Wonder why they went for a 5 speed tranny, instead of a 7 speed.

idiots:

@ SlowandMellow

Merc's 7 speed cannot handle that much power. The 5 speed is a much more robust gearbox.

Jake:

A supercar with the front end of a sedan? Ugly.

John Kimble:

Jeremy Clarkson drove this car on Top Gear recently. It sounds amazing, looks great and wow the power, just stupid (in a good way). Even Merc says to always keep the traction control ON lol. I'm surprised there is only a 5 speed in there.

Cant count:

Instant classic looks.

cobaltssman:

i wish i was rich.

dennisil:

before you yankydoodle dandys get your panties in a bunch abou thow the ZR1 is faster can i make a important observation.

Its commonly known that a car is only as fast as its driver and the ZR1 is fast as balls with a pro at the helm but put joe six pack behind the wheele and all you rgoing to get is the fatest longest burnout this side of the rocky mountains. while the Merc is a forgiving and easy beas to tame allowing you to enjoy the car more and worry less about the next sharp turn.

Top gear rescently test drove its kid brother (C63 black) and jermey "more power" clarkson was quoted as saying its his new favorite car, he took it to the isle of man and ripped it up it sounded like a German WWII fiter plane.

and if the ZR1 is going to be the king of the ring i highly doubt Merc/bmw/audi is going to let that last long, dont forget these companies actually manage to turn a profit unlike GM so we might be looking at GM's best hope and the germans havent even gotten their flagships off the drawing board,

I have a history of not being a ZR1 fanboy so it comes down to what you think - ask yourself would i honestly be able to tame the wild ZR1 or can i just cruiz the benzo and have just as much fun without the threat of decapitation?

gm0n3y:

Wow, that is one sexy machine. It is definitely way overstated, but its bloody brilliant anyways.

Subpra:

Is this the new Bond mobile?

Awsome...

ZR1 compared to this? That is like comparing Britney & Angelina!

Which would you rather be seen with?

426Hemi:

I personally would rather have the ZR1 over this, and before you guys start calling me a redneck retard, let me explane why. This SL65 AMG Black Series gose for $320,000 right, and the ZR1 on the other hand gose for about $104,000. This meens I would then have about $216,000 left to play with, as in to spend on unique upgrades. Don't got me wrong this Benz is hot, but a ZR1 with $200,000 of custom work done sounds even hotter.

dennisil:

redneck... just kidding!

Patrick:

Hemi,
you can't afford either one, imagine it parked next to your trailer home.

lotus1:

redneck fool

426Hemi:

You guys didn't read my entire post did you?

Avatar:

Nah, see 426Hemi, you needed to say something like this: I would much rather have a 911 GT2 and with the savings buy a ZR-1 as well.

426Hemi:

No, I don't think that'll work. See, that comment still mentions that I'll buy a ZR-1, which meens they'll still bash on me for being a "redneck".
