Truck sales are dead, which is bad news for Ford and Chrysler who are both launching all-new full size trucks this fall. Chrysler recently held a conference with dealers in which it announced that the all-new Dodge Ram will launch with zero percent financing for 72 months.
It's a little scary that Chrysler is launching the all-new truck with the same zero interest financing that is currently offered on the outgoing model.
The 2009 Dodge Ram will be offered with three powertrains this fall, a 3.7L V6, a 4.7L V8 and a 390 horsepower 5.7L HEMI V8. A hybrid Ram will be released sometime next year as a 2010 model.

Nicely done redesign of the already buff looking Dodge Ram pickup truck. But with Dodge's pathetic efforts on it's gas mileage, the 0% financing really doesn't attract me to this gas guzzler.
But whats so scary???

Companies that can use these trucks will buy them no matter what. You cannot haul a trailer full of lawn equipment on the back of a Prius....

The state of panic over gas prices make people miss the big picture on the true cost of ownership related to automobiles. There's little to do for the truck market where no alternatives exist, but as Andrew points out, someone has to pull trailers and plow driveways, move farme equipment, etc. Truck sales are dead....really....more trucks are sold than luxury cars but no one says those sales are dead. Truck sales suck, and will probably never really recover, but as there is still competition in this market I'd say consumers may win by going with a Ram and such ridiculous financing. Chrysler will probably lose as such financing hurts in the long run.

There is a large part of truck buyers that don't use their trucks for commercial use and those are the ones that make up for the vast majority of truck sales. Although I agree that companies that use trucks for everyday use aren't going to stop buying trucks regardless of the gas prices, a lot of people that buy trucks for non commercial use will if gas prices continue to go up. Since gas prices around here have hit above the 4 dollar mark, I see a lot less trucks on the road now then 2 years ago. The only trucks I really see on the road now are people that use their trucks for work instead of leisure.

You can find MANY 2007 and 2008 used trucks with under 15,000 miles for thousands less than new. We are talking less than half the cost of a new truck for a 1 year old model used.

wonder where they got the 'zero-interest' idea?
maybe consumer feedback, such as 'We have zero-interest to buy this car'.

Man this is a good looking truck, if I had the money, and a reason to buy a new full sized truck, this would be it.
