dennisil:

first!

if its only for japan why didnt they put the steering wheel on the right side?

dennisil:

nice chicken wire mesh grill inserts, gm proboably got them off ebay.

RX-7 Guy:

A factory riced vette, nice. As for the steering wheel location it's just not in wrong location. Surprised they didn't make it a 2+2 for the nation of wee people.

Rod:

Just 30? Why bother?

waldorf and statler:

why corrupt the minds of the Japanese?
Or is it for the occupying american forces?

bliq:

And why is the 100th anniv of GM being celebrated with a unique model in Japan? Another gift on top of all the sales GM has lost over the last half century?

Eddie:

so, rather than celebrating their anniversary in the US where it was founded, GM is celebrating their 100 year anniversary by selling a special version of the Corvette, one of the quintessential American cars, in Japan, where its biggest rivals are. And they didn't even put the steering wheel on the "proper" side.
I wasn't even aware that GM sold the Corvette in Japan

Tommy Boy:

Just speaking for myself, if my company was facing cash flow problems, closing plants, and watching its stock price dive down to historical lows, I'd probably stay away from limited runs of 30 vehicles and maybe concentrate on designing a decent, competitive, fuel-efficient economy car. You know, maybe listen to my customers, give them what they want, and make a business out of it? But I'm probably just talking crazy talk.

Andrew:

Did it ever occur to all you GM bashers that non-Americans actually like GM products? Europe, Japan, China, etc. If you don't like GM don't buy it.

Fred:

@Andrew

"If you don't like GM don't buy it."

I think that's actually the problem.

WorldTraveler:

I spent some time in Japan and I saw a few American spec cars there...

The Cadillac CTS

A couple different Jeeps (no, I didn't misidentify the Daihatsu Rocky or the Suzuki Samurai/Sidekick)

At least 2 different Corvettes

There were plenty of left hand drive cars there, though. Most of them European.

In the last 12 months Chevrolet has improved the fuel economy on 6 different models there Tommy Boy, glad you're paying attention.

In the last 2 model years they have introduced 4 significantly remodeled or completely new cars/trucks. All of them save the Impala have won awards and placed in the top 3 of their class in JDPower numbers. All of them, including the Impala, have fuel efficiency numbers that tie or win the top spot in their EPA size class for at least one engine/transmission combo.

It's people like you who keep rattling the same tired, unsupported, unproductive, incorrect, fact-ignoring diatribe that keeps the idiots who don't know any better buying their ugly Hondas and boring Toyotas.

But keep it up, it makes for great blogging.

Jason:

This car is going to sell big in Japan. I bet at least 20 of them are going to be bought by tuner shops. Everything from 1500hp turbo engines to full NA setups that may put an Enzo to shame. And then in 2 years they'll have to get rid of them....

Tommy Boy:

blah blah blah blah

better than Jap cars

blah blah blah blah

customers are wrong

blah blah blah blah

on right track

blah blah blah blah

turnaround

blah blah blah blah

GM stock price
1965 - $50
2000 - $80
2005 - $30
today - $10

blah blah blah blah

Keep talking the talk until you believe it.

Subpra:

They better take pre orders; I am not sure if there are that many insecure old white guys in Japan.

BillD:

omg TB - stop with the facts already! i saw a gm truck at the shopping mall last week so they must be doing ok lol

Noya:

dennisil, the chicken wire off ebay had me rolling on the floor laughing.

Tommy Boy, the blah blah comment was also hilarious

America Sucks?:

I'd never buy a US car product because of the UAW, I don't want to support them. I'd buy a Civic if I were getting an economy car, but you guys are ridiculous. They don't make sporty cars in Japan.

Admitted, right now Toyota and Honda make better economy cars and that's why they're doing well. If you look though, even Toyota's stock is down from $135 beginning 07 to $90 now. It's a hard time for all automakers. Stock price is not a good reflection of the quality of cars GM is producing. Their stock price shows they're in trouble with financial issues, namely a suspected liquidity problem in the forseeable future. Making crappy products is one of the reasons they are where they are(the UAW is the biggest reason), but that doesn't mean some things haven't changed. Chevy actually makes some decent (not fantastic...) cars now, and you idiots are so blinded by your love for Asian automakers that you'd totally miss them. The 2.0 turbo in the GXP Solstice, or Cobalt SS is an amazing engine. The Corvette engine, although using 'outdated' pushrod technology, is really efficent, comparatively light weight, and has a small form factor, all while producing a ton of power.

For it's price, the Corvette is the fastest, most fuel efficient, highest resale value car in the world.I think people's perceptions of GM are one of the many reason they're going down the tubes. People like you guys, who refuse to believe anything from the United States will ever be made well and wouldn't buy it if it were plated in gold and came with a supermodel.

I'd like someone on here to tell me what Sports Car either Toyota or Honda makes currently that is so superior to the Corvette. The s2000's fuel efficiency is a joke and it's much slower than a vette, so don't say that. (hp/l is stupid)

For the record I have one Asian and one European car, so don't call me a redneck blinded by the "truth".

Sean:

I would buy a steaming pile of dog crap if it was gold plated and came with a supermodel.

dennisil:

"They better take pre orders; I am not sure if there are that many insecure old white guys in Japan."

***i vote that as the best comment to date.

Cappy:

I used to work for an asian auto dealer and now work for a GM dealer. Not only are the cars from GM not as good but how they run things sux as well. First, The Asian manufacturer had one website for everything (Customer Surveys(done on phone not snail mail),Special Programs and incentives, Training for sales, Payoff Requests, Inventory(on hand in transit and on order), RDRs, Spins, etc.) where GM has a bunch of different sites with different user names and passwords for each one and is a giant pain in the ass!

Cappy:

Second, both manufacturers will put out incentives called "spins" or "rewards" for consultants who sell certain cars during certain time periods. One (guess who) gives you a Debit card with a Visa logo and your incentive money goes on the card that Friday right after the car is reported as sold. The other manufacturer takes 6 WEEKS to send a Check to your DEALERSHIP NOT YOUR HOME by Snail Mail! I have my training done for this manufacturer and have not received a check yet! It's been over 2 months!! GM sux all over the place not just their cars!!!!!!!

yep!

CKV:

i think its a great idea to make 30 limited edition cars. it show the world how great america is happy 4th everyone!!!

Timeless:

Considering how much better their sales do overseas, it makes perfect sense. It won't be long before GM is owned by a Chinese company anyway. It is a race between Chrysler and GM to see who gets bought first.

Is ashame too.
