By now most of us are tired of seeing photos of the many Camaro prototypes on the road. According to 5thgen.org the production version of the Camaro is going to be unveiled to Chevrolet dealers on July 22nd.
Sources are claiming that GM is going to hold a 2 hour satellite broadcast for dealers and the main subject will be the all-new Camaro. The dealers will receive all the details on the Camaro and orders will also commence after that.
The Camaro isn't expected in showrooms until next Spring as a 2010 model. The convertible will be released about a year later.

This is a Mustang Killer, especially since the Vette is still V8 powered... shows GM's history and the American past-time.

"Mustang Killer?"
More like, G.M.-killer.
This is exactly the OPPOSITE of what G.M. needs to be producing if it's going to stay alive in the U.S. market. Maybe if they release it as a hybrid.............
I LOVE WHINING !

Most GM cars are headed towards fuel efficiency. Its perfectly fine to have a few sports models.
You'll have a supercar Vette.
A few midrange tuners like the Camaro.
Followed by 30 different versions of fuel efficient family sedans and hatchbacks and Volts.

How is this going to kill GM exactly? It's only their most anticipated car ever! (not including the volt haha) It's going to be available in the High School kid/commuter version with a miniature, fuel efficient V-6, and also in a big boy version for those who have enough money to pay for gas or don't commute in it.
When it comes to aesthetics, to each his own, but I for one think this is a stunning car, albeit a bit bloated. I love the retro look of the mustang, charger, and challenger, and I love this even more. IMO that's the one thing that american cars really have done better than the Japanese. Our cars have very diverse looks, they've got heritage, they've got character.
It seems like the cars coming out of Japan are like American politicians. Their only goal is to make sure they offend the least amount of people (Jap cars = bland) instead of trying to make a smaller number of people passionate about the car.
While I'm practically the opposite of some of the enviro-Nazi's on here, I think that a power-oriented hybrid would be amazing here. If they took one of their bigger, supercharged V-6's and then added the hybrid system to it they'd have a car with decent fuel economy that could still hang on the track (at least in the straights). If they put a turbocharged 2.0L 4 cylinder in there with a hybrid they could push 250hp, it would be faster than if it had 300hp (100% torque at 0rpm for the HP that comes from the motor), and it would get 30+ mpg cruising because the turbo wouldn't be spooled. I know it will never happen, but it sure would be cool to see.
Apparently CKV likes to whine and I like to dream.

But would'nt you rather have a Honda Civic SI with a can instead or a performance Cmary or Corolla?

What a JOKE, who pumps a car up for 2-3 years and then expect every car junkie to want one five years later. This car should of been launched years ago and by time spring 2009 comes around GM may be in receivership to some foreign manufacturer like China if the market share goes any lower.

A new platform takes time and the longer it takes the better build it will be. You can't rush art and this car is art. Want something now go buy a Civic.

Art? LOL, this is just the same low-tech crap GM's been peddling for decades.

Perfect car for the high schooler with rich parents. Anyone else would look silly in this contraption. Looks unfinished without a chicken emblem on the hood.

Note to designers:
Front end looks ridiculous. There are shapes available other than circles and trapezoids.

Ho hum...we've seen it for so long it already seems like it's due for a design refresh. Good luck, Chevy....you're bringing a good product to market that's about 5 years too late.

Why can't they bring it out today? Why keep showing pictures of this car? As the comment made before, this thing will need a design refresh by time it arrives in showrooms....
GM really screwed themselves up not releasing the car when the first Transformers movie was released!

"The Camaro isn't expected in showrooms until next Spring as a 2010 model."
Let's see...Gas will be +$5 per gallon...Oil will be +$175/barrell. Great time to introduce a muscle car. I'm SURE that's what the general public will want.
Yawn...Call it what you want, but looks like another misstep to me. Hello, GM? Anyone there? Scared of seeing Toyota in your rear-view mirror? Then how about DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT ALREADY? Like giving the consumer what they want.
Putting a "fuel efficient V-6" in this will be like the 80s Mustangs with the 4-banger...Pitiful.

No thanks, GM. I am waiting for you to do things right. Sell a total electric Camaro along with the charger: either a windmill or solar array for the roof of my house. Then the only reason I'd need to Big Oil's gas stations is to use their restrooms.
