Toyota has announced today that the automaker has increased its shares in Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the parent company of Subaru.

Fuji Industries sold 61 million shares valued at 31.1 billion yen ($293 million) to Toyota, which means that Toyota now owns 16.61 percent of the company (up from 9.5 percent). Subaru have continued to strengthen their relationship after GM sold off the shares it had in Subaru. The two automakers are currently working on a new RWD coupe that will be sold under both brands and future hybrid vehicles. The rear-wheel-drive coupe is going to be sold as a Toyota in Japan and a Subaru in other markets, like the US.

Arun:

Just buy yourself a 8,400 RPM V8 420BHP M3 ok.

Noya:

The M3 is $65,000.

The STi is $30,000.

Andy:

@ Arun

Because the STi and the M3 is in the same market..

waldorf and statler:

the little company that could...

A:

I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota turned Subu into a performance division of Toyota to try to break Toyota's bland and boring portfolio of cars.

Tommy Boy:

The M3 and STi are both cars. And every poster here has unlimited internet funds.

adrian:

he thought of comparing it maybe because of almost not far difference in track performance.

Brian:

Yeah after I buy my M3 and STI, I'm gonna pop down to the Porsche dealer and pickup my Carrera GT drive down to the air field hop on my Concord and fly to my Death Star.

Cause in space the GT still sounds wonderful.....

Alex:

Laugh @ Brian, death star, haha. Have you seen the family guy star wars episode? "Its right over malibu the resale will be huge" (Something like that)

Jason:

@Arun and Tommyboy:

The E92 M3 is a piece compared to a Koenigsegg CCX or Maserati MC12. I mean, why even bother making that weak sauce M3? They're all cars... right? You've both just earned the right to wear a helmet indoors.

Anyways, Toyota swallowed Daihatsu and now they're slowly munching on Fuji HI? They *are* becoming GM....
I wonder what would it have been like if Toyota still had the Celica GT4.

STI Sucks:

Holy crap the Impreza is ugly, Subaru's designers are insane.

For some reason the Japanese don't want to send over a 2 seater small pocket rocket. I don't want utility and speed. Just give me speed and forgo any utility. Make a SPORTSCAR Japan, not 4 door FWD hatchbacks that go kind of fast and seat 5 people.

gm0n3y:

The partnership between Toyota and Subaru seems like it will be bearing fruit in the next couple of years. Cheers to Toyota.
