GM Releases Photos of a Pre-Production Camaro Convertible

gm_chevrolet_camaro_convertible_prepro_.jpg
There have been so many photos of the upcoming Chevy Camaro..that its getting a little crazy, but due to the positive feedback of the first pre=production photos, GM has released two new ones of the Camaro Convertible.

The photos were posted on GM's FastLane Blog and are reportedly a reward for the overwhelmingly positive response from the first photos that GM released (remember the first white Camaro). These photos don't really reveal much more than we have already seen, although we do get to see what the convertible looks like with its top up.

Enjoy. (And yes, I know that some people are tired of seeing Camaro pics, but don't spoil the fun for those that are excited about this car).

Michael83:

These photos blow.

The only "pics" I've seen of the Camaro that make it look good were the digitally tweaked ones in the newest issue of Road & Track. They added rally stripes, SS badges and some other crap...acutually looked comparable to the SRT8 Challenger.

Sandmanwn:

Much better in black. And the convertible is even sexier. The lines really flow with the top down. Not so sure about the top however. Something just isn't sitting right with me. The long gap from the end of the side window to the rear window is catching the eye in the wrong way.

Not much of a teaser with the lame duck low-def photos too.

Brandon:

Personally ive never cared much for the style of the new camaro. I think the mustangs look much better. But I still have not seen one in person so i'll reserve my final opinion until then.

Timeless:

Looks just like the crappy Challenger. Fugly.

hairdresser from brighton:

is this the same company as Hummer? So sad....

WVO:

That is a Camaro? Can't tell really, anymore. That front end, no, no, no.

Peter :

Now those hairy chested muscle shirt gold chain wearing greaseballs can transport the homecoming queen and king during half time at the homecoming football game around the track or at a parade.

brad:

Hint: This vehicle is not going to save American auto manufacturer's declining sales. Not even close.

Patriot:

Cool, more americans bashing american cars. If you love japan so much why don't you go live there?

Mike M:

Most of our "Japanese" cars are more American than Ford or GM. Most of the Japanese cars you see on the street are built in Kentucky, Ohio, Mississippi, etc. Most of your Domestics are now made in Mexico. The only part of American support are the designers and executives, who obviously don't care anymore. As for the Camaro, it will be two years too late. They won't sell enough of the V-8s because of gas prices, and the V-6 is just like any pony car...it looks much cheaper and is preferred by girls and guys of the "alternative lifestyle."

brad:

I'm not American. And I'd probably rather live in Japan. You can choose to ignore the issue all you like, but times are looking rough for American auto manufacturers who simply can't make decent, economical small cars. The ones with american badges on them that are half decent are all european or korean.

Avatar:

That couldn't be farther from the truth Mike M. GM makes more car parts in the USA then any other car company, period. Read the doors, they merely say assembled in Canada or Mexico, not made in.

Your Japanese cars however, have headquarters based in Japan and merely import the parts to America for assembly. Reason? It is cheaper to ship smaller parts then a fully assembled car.

Japanese car companies spinning off that they are built here so they are better, what other piece of Koolaid will you believe next?

Todd:

The problem with the top profile is the main flat is too big. Without seeing the framework it's hard to say, but that sucker is doomed to sag & flap with that big of a flat.

GM's V8's get better gas mileage than most everyone else's. I'm not sure if it is a good or bad thing but in most GM vehicles going V6 vs. V8 results in only a very small mpg penalty, and depending upon how you drive, the V8 might actually be better.

I'm a supporter of the F-body but am not a big fan of this rendition so far. It's gotten fatter and bigger than it should be, even for a pony car, and has too much of a sedan shape to it. Imho way too 300M / challenger like. I'm not sure why it has become such a popular profile nowadays. It's like the took all the styling guts and used them to make the interior impractical.

I'm afraid the exterior styling is going to end up being too cookie cutter and the price will be too high. As much as I want it to work, it seems doomed at the onset for much the same reasons the old cars were killed off.

Too expensive. Probably.
Too heavy. Check.
Too bland. Check.
Bad interior design. Check.
Bad interior quality. TBD

Scott:

I'm sorry but this car is butt ugly. The lines don't flow, it is too big and that hood scoop is like some fiberglass sitck-on right our of the 70's.

mbw:

Convertibles should only go on track friendly cars that are going for the weight savings overkill, aka Miata. Otherwise you just look like a schmuck and/or gay putzing around town with the top down. Putting a convertible top on a car that's going to be way too heavy regardless is retarded.

dennisil:

@ Patriot

your an elitist american who thinks we are bashing GM inorder to bring them down, but the fact is that its a part of some peoples nature to see the glass as half empty or in this case the camaro as a waste of time. I work for one of the big 3 .... sausage companys in chicago and i still think our products suck but untill some fat italian stops firing one of these kelbasas down there gullet every minute my boss wont change up the spices... once en0ough people suggest somthing logically better than whats out there im going to keep complaining because next to excuses im neerly as good with it as i am with complaning

Avatar:

No, it is just that the import fan bois always say the same thing. This car sucks cause it has low hp/L, this one sucks cause of the interior, this one sucks cause it can't compete at this cost, this one sucks cause it's ugly, this one sucks cause it has a v8, etc etc.

Not one of those has any meaning, is nothing but an opinion, and/or is just Koolaid. Argue something useful, and then maybe we would start listening.

godZilla28:

The styling is beautiful. It's a great looking car, but it's just five or six years too late. It should have come out before the new Mustang's debut. All the potential Camaro buyers are now driving Mustangs, and probably trying to unload them ASAP for a Prius.

Who's supposed to buy this car anyway? The Camaro was always the budget super car; Corvette performance on a beer budget. With the proposed price point, however, the Z28 can now only be driven by higher income drivers, who may be looking for a more prestigious brand, like BMW or Porsche.

We are now officially on the downhill slope of Hubbert's Peak, AKA Peak Oil. Gas prices will fluctuate up and down but the trend will be ever upwards as supplies decline. Enjoy the low prices today, because a year from now they'll be even higher. The American Muscle Car is pretty much dead.

The only way to save the Camaro (and GM's reputation) at this point is to toss out the old push-rod V-8 gas engine and make it a plug-in electric car, like the Tesla. Performance will likely improve, as electric motors are big on torque and can deliver blistering acceleration. Oil and gasoline are on the way out, and will soon be un-affordable. Who needs a gas guzzler when gas costs $8 or $10 a gallon?

kevin:

your all crazy. anyone who's driven a camaro. will want this car.
and gas prices are down!

muscle cars are back

jr:

all of u are stupid!! the camaro is nice. yea there are some pics. of it looking fake and ugly. but first see it in person and all of you will change ur mind.

johno:

I think this is a good looking car that I would love to own if it isn't some crazy $30k + price. It's a heck of a lot better looking than that sunflower seed shaped Camaro we saw before they stopped making Camaros. A hundred times better than that thing.

The thing I keep wondering about is about the technoloy they are coming up with for cars these day. I remember reading a Popular Mechanics mag back in the 70's discussing the details of a 300 hp Cadillac conversion that got 80 miles to the gallon. 80 freekin miles to the gallon with 300 freekin horse power. Where is this technology? I've seen stories of people talking about their mileage booster kits you can make at home and add like 20 mpg to your family car. How can weekend dingdong mechanics come up with this stuff, and the engineering experts at the big 3 be so baffled about cars with power and high mpg? Are they that stupid? Guess so.

Fred:

What will you do when all the American jobs are taken by the Korean and the Japanese. You are feeding the frenzy. The Asians are taking over, the Indians are close behind and the US will crash and burn if the the big 3 do not join forces. Out with the UAW and back to business. The companies that invented the auto is not backed by their patriots anymore. Bunch of traitors buying foreign goods that only knows how to copy other companies cars, Wonder what will happen when the realization comes that the Asians own the market and the amazingly gay Prius costs three times as much and your service job can't pay the car loan anymore because your job is also in Japan. Wake up and see the chain reaction, your kids will pay the high price. Europeans have been paying $10 for gas for the last 20 years and Prius or any other car will not change the environment you idiots. What do you think is used to build these cars, water? Cheap parts and labor, neither of which you find in the USA. The last thing that the US knows how to manufacture and sell and you buy Asian, unbelievable.

kdog:

I think this car is SICK Which goes to show Chevy rules far as performance, looks, and by far fuel economy. It is in a class of its own! I have seen a few around on the streets, and by far stomps the other late model muscle cars I would be totally embaressed to pull up to this auto driving a overated Mustang, Challanger, or Charger. The 2010 Camaro RULES right along with the ZO6 Vette. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chad Youngberg:

Farkin rights dood !! I completely agree.. this car rocks! I'm buying the 2011 with the jim dandy hurst shifter and the heads up display..
if you see a blue metallic one smoking along somewhere at 300 km.hr that'll probably be me.. One of my first cars was a 350 - 202 headed 67 with a hurst 4 speed midnight blue metallic and that car ruled as this one will. . . . long live the CAMARO damnit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
