2010 Acura NSX Hits the Nurburgring and Posts a 7:37 Lap Time

2010_acura_nsx_nurburgring3.jpg
A few days ago the resurrected 2010 Acura NSX was caught by spies on the famed Nurburgring in Germany. Now the car has been unofficially clocked doing a lap time of 7:37 by spies.

If you recall the Nissan GT-R officially did the lap in 7:29. Honda's CEO has set a goal of beating the GT-R and upcoming Lexus LF-A when the NSX is finally released in 2010. It is rumored that the NSX is powered by a 550 horsepower V10 engine, so when the official lap times are released you can expect it to be very close to the GT-R or possibly even faster. Of course lets hope Honda is also setting the goal of beating the upcoming GT-R V-Spec.

akkadain:

I'm in love, anyone know how much it'll cost?

dracolnyte:

oh nice, it beat the GT-R in wet condition lap times ^^

Trooper Bri:

7:37, and she's wearing a lot of makeup in those pics. I'll bet the farm that Honda won't have much problem at all shedding 8 more seconds in the future. I hate Nissan probably more than Chrysler, so i hope Chevy and Honda stomp the GT-R into oblivion.

And speaking of Honda. Drop the Acura badge for christ sake and let the NSX have it's heritage logo. I see plenty of tarted up Acura coupes here in the states that get rebadged to Honda emblems during the build.

unknown:

they dont have acuras anywhere except here in the states. I hate to say it but honda finnally build a real car that doesnt use a pos 4 or 6 cyl. Even though its not a mid engine that v10 must be pretty nuts to pull out all the stops and keep up with the gtr although I have a funny feeling that this the zr1 ls-a and audi r8 v10 will all end up taking the gtr in perfect conditions like the gtr was raced in.

this is only honda's acceptable racing car.

Carter:

First of all, I think this looks like a brilliant car. Maybe I'm crazy, but I see a honda trying to hint at the looks of an Astin Martin. While I think the car is beautiful, I do not belive that it should have been called the NSX. This car looks as if it should have a small V-8, called a Prelude, and priced against the 350Z. Then they could make a nice V-10 or V-12 with a mid engine and fast as a Ferrari but priced down with Porsches.

I love this modern muscle car era, and I'm terribly excited to see how much faster these amazing cars are going to go on ELECTRICITY. That's only a half joke.

GT-R is God:

Damn, lots of GT-R haters here...why?

Because it's not a true exotic yet it spanks everything on a track?

I'm sure the GT-R V-Spec will kill on the track as it only need another 50hp or so over the GT-R to up it's straight line acceleration.

Tommy Boy:

Did they park that car under a flock of flying ostriches?

Gary:

@Carter:

I thought the same thing, lets hope it comes out looking good unlike the new TSX...

@Uknown:

The Acura brand is being released in Japan this year if it hasn't already been.

lowest iq:

and it hit some birds on the way...

DrFruit:

Other brands are probably copying the new bird sh*t look right now. Will they have egg on their faces when Honda removes the camouflage.

Dan:

how much does it cost? it's an NSX...if you have to ask, that means you can't afford it.

any fool with money can buy a fast car. it's just a question of when he tacos it around a tree because he didn't spend any money on learning to drive.

steve:

550 HP? Makes alot of sense as gas is heading towards $5.00/gallon. It will be interesting to see if it has better gas mileage than a Hummer.

Bob:

Let's just hope that Honda/Acura is using this car to sort out a RWD/AWD chassis that they can use for their next generation RL and TL.

Mazda6 Guy:

Regardless of how fast this car is, I am almost certain that it will be more expensive than the GT-R, so if it is faster around the track then it isn't such a big deal.

Nissan could always go for more displacement to get more horsepower, or could reduce the weight significantly to make the car faster.

As for calling this car beautiful? How? I get the idea behind the styling, but I can't see what the curves are really like... This could be a new Tiburon shell for all we know... (I know it isn't, but that isn't the point).

akkadain:

@Dan

of course I can't afford it, I was asking because I'm curious how it's price will relate to the gt-r. If the nsx beats the gt-r's 'ring numbers, that would be great, but if it costs 20k-30k more, then is it "better"? I was trying to formulate a price/performance comparison

I'm also a little tired of hearing "I hate 'insert auto manufacturer'". I'm not a fan of buicks but I don't think anyone would have much bad to say about the grand national. Please realize that it is in our best interests that both companies that we prefer and those we don't continue to make better, faster, and more innovative cars, as it spurs on competition, keeps prices down, and gives us more variety in the market. I will probably never buy a domestic car, but the zr-1 is freakin' awesome, and I'm glad it's going to make the gt-r boys sweat a little, so the gt-r will only keep improving. Muscle is back, lets just bask in it's greatness

JohnBo:

If you hate a particular car company, at least give a good reason. Ex> I dont like Buicks b/c as a kid, my dad liked Buicks and I hated all three of them. After we got a G35 in 2005, I never looked back at Domestics. Maybe Lincon or Caddy would have been nice, but Buick really made a bad impression on me.

Ok back to the main topic. The styling of this car will hopefully be better than the new TSX. I trust Acura to go a good job, god knows they have way better designers than Lexus. Hopefully this V10 will actually be reliable and encourage all other supercar companies out there to up their reliability. We all know Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lambo arn't known for dependable cars, if this new NSX with a V10 is able to drive to 200k miles with nothing but oil changes, tire swaps and a new clutch here and there, then it will be something truely special.

deskmist:

This looks like a 2 seater.

The GT-R is still the fastest 4 seat vehicle I have seen tested flying around the ring, regardless of the times this vehicle throws up.

I really liked the old NSX looks so hopefully this version can live up to the legacy.

Dan:

@ akkadain:

i understand that you were trying to draw a comparison on performance/price.

i'm just finding myself growing tired of expensive performance cars. take a spartan approach to the interior for example, and you could save a bundle on production costs, therefore the vehicle will cost less to the public.

i guess i'm the type of person that would rather take a lightweight car (92-95 civic hatchback), swap in a killer engine (Honda K20A2), and enjoy it. who needs nav systems, read-your-mind-auto-roll-down-windows, heated seats and chilled cup holders? i sure don't. it's just getting silly. i wish manufacturers would get back to focusing on the sheer pleasure of driving and making a few cars to fulfill that market. not creating mobile offices or gran turismo paddle shifter cars that just say "my wallet is bigger than yours". if i wanted to shift by pushing a button, i'd just play gran turismo. when i want to drive, gimme 3 pedals on the floor and a 6 speed stick in my hand. oh, and ditch the traction control. that's what learning to drive is for. i'd rather the car weigh a few pounds less without that computer in it anyways :-)

Dave K:

I also prefer a minimalist approach... but I don't think the Honda Civic would be on my list of potential donor cars, hard to fix that suspension no matter how much money you throw at it. There are small cars with proper non-strut suspensions that would give you a sounder base for a lightweight performance car.

Personally I'd rather buy a used Ariel Atom or Caterham Seven... ultralights seem to me to be the summit in minimalist design to me (but the cost is a bit painful).

CCL:

@ Dan

Honda didn't make the civic hatch for the pleasure of driving. If you really enjoy the pleaure of driving a spartan interiored car you need to get a Camaro SS with an LS1. They're garbage cars luxury wise, but more fun than you could possibly have with a 20k suped up honda. BMW's have the most driving pleasure, but like you said everything doesn't need a super luxury interior.

I wish Honda or Toyota would build a Lotus Elise with a warranty for 20-25k. That's what I really want.

JohnBo:

Toyota and Subaru are building a fun little car with RWD and subaru's boxer engine. If that H4 is turbo-ed with a 6 speed and a light body, it will be fun to drive.

Dave K:

regarding the GT-R bashing -

I was a GT-R skeptic along with a lot of other folks, but the numbers are out there... the car is for real. Real powerful (100 more than claimed), real fast, and really refined.

Just for fun over lunch I played nurburgring video of a couple cars side by side with the slower GT-R run to see if anything interesting could be drawn from them. The biggest thing is just how amazingly composed the car is... you'd NEVER think it was moving as fast as it is. Viewed side by side with a turbo Hyabusa powered Caterham, the GT-R just slowly walked away from the Cat, even though the guy in the GT-R could have been drinking a macchiato and the Cat was far more work (even though it looked like it was being driven very conservatively).

The GT-R next to the Radical went as expected, the Radical ran away from the GT-R... but then... the Radical is... well... RADICAL.

I think it's likely that some of the other big names will probably eclipse the GT-R in the next 6-12 months... but I'd be surprised if their offerings will be as easy to drive fast as this car obviously is.

gm0n3y:

Will that paint color be an option?

Gary:

@Dave K:

What suspension are you referring to? The Civic shared the same frame and almost identical 4 wheel independent double wishbone suspension. If that Civic did anything well aside from sip gas, it was handle with the best once lowered and stiffened slightly

Back on track though, I agree that sports cars should be sports cars and not mobile offices. Funny thing is that you'll find people bitching about too many gizmos and too fancy interior in one thread and in another people are bashing Chevy for not making power seats and bluetooth standard on the Corvette. I for one would also like some manufacturers to offer a shorter warranty period on their sports cars as an option to decrease cost. Since most people who buy these cars anyway want to rip them apart and make them faster it seems like a good idea to me. But I'm also not CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation...

Gary:

Edit:

Should have said shared the same suspension as the Integra GSR.

Tony:

What happened to the Beautiful World Class mid-engine NSX? They are not sticking with tradition. That car was a World car and beat vechicles that were 5 times more expensive. It also looks heavier than the old generation NXS. Too bad.

Dave K:

Man... way to make me check my assumptions - I'd not looked into the civic in a couple years, relegating it to the grocery getter category. You had me worried they'd done a major redesign and I hadn't heard about it (certainly possible)

Well I just saw 2007/2008 data... and from the sources I've seen I'm still right... strut front, multilink rear, no double wishbones anywhere.

It's a nice inexpensive and maintainable design... but it's not a performance design unless you're talking about rally racing where you need the extended suspension travel that you can get out of Macpherson suspensions.

unknown:

dave k
you know proshes use strut fronts and most bmws use that as well just because its not a multilink doesnt mean it cant perform. Back in the 70s there were f1 cars that used torsen bar suspensions. The gt-r is a fast car ther eis no doubting that but my problems with the car are simple its really heavy too civilized and every idiot whos watched the show initial d are gonna be screaming daddy I want a GTR. If you were to take both a corvette zr1 and a gtr to a track with average drivers aka most people chances are the gtr would be the first into the wall because of the electronic suspension letting the driver push it to 11/10s without his skills matching what the car is capable of and the zr1 would scare teh driver the second they got a little bit of oversteer. I cant count how many evos and stis ive seen crashed because the operator isnt as good as the machine.

Dave K:

Correction... there WERE some full double wishbone civics... all pre-2000. Since then they've been struts up front.

So I stand half corrected.

Dave K:

As I said... there's nothing horribly wrong with a strut suspension, but it doesn't hold geometry or have the overall flexibility of an SLA design. For a street car they work GREAT. I think every auto maker has experimented with them, and they totally dominate the lower cost market and a fair chunk of the rest of the business.

The civic is a great little car (I might end up with one this year), but for a commuter car that's still fun to drive, not a performance car.

Double wishbone rear's are standard on IRS cars... but it's the front suspension design you need to be concerned with, because it's pretty much impossible to change the fundamental design. Well that's not true, you can do anything with enough money and/or time... but it wouldn't be easy.

Gary:

@Dave K

I hate to harp, but the 94-00 Civic can be a really fun car to drive. Take a 2000 SI drop a couple sway bars, Tein coilovers, and some sticky tires and you'll be pulling almost 1G if not more on the skidpad. Sport Compact did an article a few years back on one and that's all they had to do. Add some more power (K20) and you've got as car that's really fun to drive and has as much grip as an Evo (unless you're hitting water, ice, or dirt).

Dave K:

eh... different strokes for different folks. Heck, I've seen guys drop a ton of money trying to make a pickup handle so a Civic is certainly not that big of a stretch. IMO there's cars that have more potential in the same price range, but that doesn't really matter much to someone who's into a particular car.

cobaltssman:

they should call it an integra because that looks nothing like a true NSX. Its a a front engine coupe, not a mid engine jet plane, like the old nsx.

@ GT-R is God

"Damn, lots of GT-R haters here...why?

Why do people hate GTR's (or their fans)?

- Because Nissan sells the GTR at a loss so they can say it beats more expensive cars. Chevy should start selling the Z06 for $30K so they can claim it's a 30K car that can match a 911 Turbo.
- Because they lied about the HP output so people will somehow believe they're better at engineering and can make every 1 of their HP do more than everybody else.
- Because they've been "tuning" the car on a track-by-track basis so they can say it's the fastest at "insert test here" when in fact a single GTR will never be able to run each track/test and achieve the same results. Did everyone forget when Nissan asked Road & Track about their slalom test procedures? Why would they ask such a question? Perhaps so they could "tune" their car before they handed it over for testing?
- And finally, because some idiot ricer fanboi has to show up in every single sports car discussion on the 'net and start talking trash about the GTR will "kick its ass". Of all the enthusiasts out there, GTR fanbois are the most obnoxious, and least educated (in terms of engineering, physics and racing) of all.

BTW, Honda never had a double wishbone suspension. Unless you count the top front arms as being "double". The cars that "supposedly" had double wishbones had wishbones for the front upper arms, regular control arms for the lower front arms, and trailing arms with upper & lower links for the rear. Double wishbone suspensions have a wishbone as the upper and lower arm. Civics from any era never had this.

RX-7 Guy:

Shame on who ever said there was a hint of the the beauty of an Aston Martin. Looks more like G37 Eclipse got together and forgot to wear a condom. Par for the course for Honda's lack lustrous design team. They've never created a sexy car, even the first NXS while exotic looking wasn't sexy.

unknown:

irs with a mutlilink setup is usually standard on rears of cars for 2 reasons. First its heavy gernerally and for companies such as bmw and porshe this is a easy way to help balance out the car and make its weigh bias close to 50/50 as well as those manufactures want to give a car a sporty ride and most mutlilink setups offer a harsh ride where its easy to hide on the rear of a suspension and do away with some oversteer traits which costs oems lots of money in lawsuits when people crash their cars

Sabby:

Not impressed at all. Oh boy, another front-engine, RWD coupe...boring! This reminds me of the new Hyundai coupe, and that's not a good thing.

This car should not have been called NSX. When I hear the name NSX, I think of mid-engine exotic, not front-engine muscle.

I'm sure this car will perform well enough, but I can't help but think Honda missed the mark on this one.

dennisil:

i bet the acura costs more than the GTR and it will be perty sensational but the toyota is rummored to be priced at about $200K so its going to be a bargan compaired to that...

Davids:

This car is a pecea of shit. Fuck all Honda and Acura lovers. This cars are nothing but shits. Every guy should drive a real car. Fuck every one with their stupid comments. Any one who wants to race me go ahead. By the way I drive a Pagani Zhonda Bitches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Davids:

Nicks:

I set my company's fax machine to call 1-661-269-3328 repeatedly and so far no one has accepted my challenge. I also pretend to drive a Pagani Zhonda.

J-Rod:

LOL, JESUS RUIZ (aka Davids). Why don't you shove that Shit-Subishi back up your ass where it belongs.

How many times do I have to slap you before you understand that a non-turbo Eclipse sucks!

Yes, I know her (Jesus), she's just jealous because she can't afford a Honda, so she's trying to make herself feel better because she bought a Mitsu.

BTW. Awesome car, the GT-R and this are probably going to be the best imports out there.

GerardoAguilar loves cock:

Hey Nick what car do you drive bitch? Its problaly your mom car. So why dont you fuck off because you have not call at all you stupid brick. Fuck you !!!!

Hey Gerardo Aguilar you cant go fuck off. You dont even fucking drive your car bitch. You scare to race me again. Fuck your self And get it in your head that Hondas and NSX are a peace of shit cars!
