The 2009 Lincoln MKS was officially unveiled earlier this year and isn't going on sale until later this month, but that hasn't stopped Lincoln from selling 8,600 of the new sedans.
Mike Stanford has already sold over 60 units at his his Varsity Lincoln Mercury dealership in Novi. "It's going to be an awesome product for us," Stanford said. "We should be able to recapture some of the business we lost when the Continental went away." (The Continental died in 2002)
"It's really the first new Lincoln since the LS in 1998," said analyst Erich Merkle of IRN Inc. in Grand Rapids. "When you look at the Lincolns they have today and what this car represents, there's no question it's a game-changer."
The 2009 Lincoln MKS will be in dealerships later this month and will start at $37,985 and a fully loaded MKS will start at $48,120. The base engine is a 3.7L V6 with 270 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. The MKS is also expected to be one of Ford's first models with the all-new 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 engine with an estimated 340 horsepower.

$38k and FWD? I'll take a loaded Lexus ES350 or IS350, jeez, I would take the nasty Cadillac CTS is over this thing.
$48k and AWD? I'll take a Lexus GS, BMW 3/5, Audi blah blah blah.
This thing will be dead after the first year. Most of the old white haired "American cars are the best people" are dead or almost dead. Now granted I don't live in the south, but all of my friend/family only buy/lease Honda, Toyota, Acura and BMW. I can't imagine any affluent person younger than 50 would be dumb enough to purchase a Lincoln. I just laugh when I look at the prices of used Lincoln LS's.

Another pointless vehicle intended for a niche market. Wrong car for the wrong decade.

forget the naysayers...
This a beautiful car. I saw it in person at the '08 NY Auto Show. Its a bit big but it really can help Ford. I am normally a Nissan fan, but you have to give credit where it is due...

Wow. All the cars I have are foreign and rwd, but still. You people are so anti-american it's ridiculous. I'm not sure where this "hate companies because of where their HQ is" or stockholders live but it's completely ridiculous. Like cars for what they are, not where they're *from*.
I'd never buy a 40k Taurus or a 40k fwd car period from any manufacturer. That's got nothing to do with being american. The es350 is just a 40k Camry and I'd never own it either.
Whatever you idiots say, obviously some people are excited enough about the MKS to put down deposits, so get over yourselves.

You babbling idiot, we all know how you love to make an opinion on every single page and act like you know what you're talking about - but please, give it a break already. No one cares what you have to say - moron.

Sold 8600 units? And this is from the same company that says the 2010 Mustang will be smaller, but it actually isn't. And from the same company that says big cars are 'uncool'. Sorry, I don't believe they have sold that many, if any yet.
Can't see the appeal of yet another big ol sedan at that price.

actually for Ford it is quite simple:
the HQ is in Detroit, but the people that can think are in Germany/UK.
Certainly within the the next 5 years, it will become largely an European company with American owners. Nothing wrong with that, what?
If the $ goes down further, eg 2 to 1 vs Euro, the US factories will be full to export to Europe, Mexico, etc. Nothing wrong with that either, what?
That Ford has to many brands with no meaning, and some derelict trucks, is just a matter of time.

This isn't about personalized attacks. I apologize if I've offended you. The truth is no one cares what any of us have to say. That's what makes it fun!
I'm seriously not on here to harp on specific other posters (or have specific posters degrade me) though, I'm just rambling off my personal opinions like everyone else on the web.
Seriously though, what do you think about about the MKZ?

I'm guessing that the pre-sales are 8,600 LS owners looking for an upgrade.

Looks like a fugly Pontiac, if that is possible. Nice "baleen whale" mouth grille.
Erich Merkel in the article says, "It's really the first new Lincoln since the LS in 1998". This only further enodrses the fact that Ford is that lame. What happened, did the drawing finally make it off the drawing board from 1998? You would think with J Mays designing cars at Ford, they would be better looking. They (Ford designers) spend all their time re-re-re-re-releasing an update on the frickin Mustang.
Oh, look at the next article! ANOTHER FRICKIN MUSTANG!!!

I really like the look of the car, but the price is unrealistic! Starting at $38K and going to $48K for a fully equipped model?! I'd look at a Lexus or Acura for that price. The domestics just don't get it. If they ever want to get back market share they have to price the product right AND include quality. I've been following this model and really like it's looks. However, the price is just totally wrong.

@ JohnC, exactly right. The domestics need to be aiming at Hyundai and not try to compare their products with the Japanese because all but the most redneck just laugh at them, as we do here at The Torque Report.
@ Sandman, how about RESALE and proven reliability. I don't know about you, but when I buy anything of real cost (say an HDTV or higher), I like to RESEARCH the hell of the item and buy the best for the money based on said research. Looking at Lincolns last new car, the LS, why would I chance $38k+ when a Acura TL or Lex ES350 are proven as the best cars in this price bracket?
@ Cheap Car Lover,
I'm offering you a free of charge, brand new loaded Lincoln MKS or Lexus ES350. The only stipulation is that you have to keep the car for 10 years, you can't sell it upon delivery.
What's that? You're begging for the Lexus?
That's what I thought.

Between those two cars? Of course I'd take the Lexus, no doubt about it. Between a CTS and an IS? The CTS. But I still think the IS is awesome. I have no doubt the Lincoln is overpriced.
