Yes, we know all the Corvette news lately has been about the uber fast ZR1, but for 2009 the Z06 version gets a few updates.
For the 2009 model year the Corvette Z06 gets a new "spider" design 10-spoke alloy wheel that is available in four versions. There are also a few updates to the interior such as color-keyed door and instrument panels with red and titanium interiors, standard power-operated pull-down hatch, gray stitching on the Ebony seats and new door sill plates with the Z06 logo.
The Z06 also receives a larger capacity dry sump oiling system.

Easily the best looking American car (exterior wise, anyway).

I actually like the Z06 much better than the ZR1. I think the naturaly aspirated 7.0L is much more of an achievement than the 6.2L supercharged of the ZR1. While I do like the ZR1's splitter/side sills, it's plastic hood window that shows even more plastic is a disgrace to the car.

Charlie, I assume you are being sarcastic. My prius* gets 200hp/liter***. AND 100mpg. No lie. Corvettes a POS** because it has a big engine and no power and sips gas like mad. Prius > Corvette HANDS DOWN****.
*I pissed on a prius once.
**Corvettes are great cars and what does the mileage matter, they are fast, sexy, and if you can afford one gas should not be of a concern.
***Because all 1.5L hybrids should have 300hp.
****Obviously comparing apples to oranges.
I probably ruined the sarcasm there. Oh well, I'll probably get flamed for this post anyways, not like I should care. the internetsssssssss

Ahh I see, so you're actually "lowestiq" posting as me since I bashed your lack of intelligence on the Dodge Ram postings. Pretty easy to tell since your old name stopped posting after that and all of a sudden my name started posting moronic posts while I was out of town in Vegas. Pretty mature move on your end.

The newer Vette's have always reminded me just a bit of the last generation RX7 (which was a beautiful car). They are one of the nicest looking cars the US puts out (I'd rank the GT as #1 but that's just me).
@ Cobaltssman:
Everyone knows the Civic "I got my VTec yo" is a supercar (especially when properly stickercharged with a bunch of Japanese characters)... so there you go. ;-)

@CobaltSSMan:
The Lotus Elise before it got the supercharger was very close if not over 100hp/ltr.
@Ben
What?

@CobaltSSMan:
And you can mix in the first gen S2000, putting right at if not over 100hp/ltr.
I don't know if you call those "super" cars, but 100 hp/ltr is attainable. However, to the average driver that configuration makes for a very lazy car. You have no/little low end, and the car doesn't come alive until you are 2/3 of the way through the rpm range. Many people liked the driveability of the last gen Celica GT over the GT-S, even though the GT-S has roughly 45 more hp. The 1ZZ-FE engine and transmission made for an easier to drive car, while the 2ZZ-GE and close ratio 6 speed made for a more fun to drive experience. In day to day, stop and go, around town, through the lights, I'd take the 1ZZ-FE. On the track, or in the country 2ZZ-GE all the way.

Lotus Elise - VERY cool car... NOT supercar.
Honda S2000 - Ok car... DEFINITELY NOT supercar.
HP/L is the most pointless and irrelevant metric used in streetcars today. It doesn't measure ANY performance characteristic that is of ANY value.
If next week a law comes out that all car engines must be 2.5L or smaller... THEN hp/l will become important. As of today it is only useful in determining the approximate age of the poster.

My car gets 104hp/L, is not asian, and has 90% of peak torque at 2k rpm. I regularly start off at about 900 rpm in daily driving. So it's not all that peaky. Hp/L doesn't matter though. A Z06 has a higher EPA mileage rating, is far faster, and more reliable. I love my M3, but people need to respect the Z06, it's OHV engine and leaf springs are apparently a marvel of modern engineering despite being so "dated".

Most modern Ferrari's exceed 100/L without forced induction. A couple of models might be considered supercars...

half of the idiots posting here have no clue what a OHV is or how a leaf springs work.
All that matters is high power from low displacement and high gas mileage.
Nobody's making any judgment about what market a car is designed for, or what's the purpose of that car.
The morons around here are bashing a corvette like it's the next family car that everyone will be forced by law to buy, and a Prius like they'll take it to the track every other Sunday.

The composite springs in the Vette are indeed cool tech (Jeremy Clarksons opinion notwithstanding).

Wow, so much hate. Couple of things about this car. One, it is cool, and it does look good. For those of you complaining about "plastic crap", what would you have it made of? Carbon fiber, and double (or more) the price? Metal, and double the weight? I mean really, plastic is a good choice for that. Plastic is durable and lightweight. Bulletproof vests and glass are made of plastic, for pete's sake. Also, in terms of its "old technology", I'd say The Ends justify the Means. Who cares how it gets there, as long as it is there. You compare the final product, anyway.

hp/l does not scale well. If it did, then how come Honda cannot get 350hp out of their v6 Passport?
Fact is, 100hp/l is nearly impossible in anything but inline 4's. (Yes I know there are exceptions).
As others have suggested, instead of complaining, how about giving credit where its due, a 7.0L smallblock OHV v-8 spinning at 7100 RPM is pretty good if you ask me. It's no match to the new M3 V-8, but BMW's aren't known for their reliabilty.
Props to Chevy for a car that gets good gas mileage, looks great, has lots of power on tap, and doesn't cost (relatively) a lot of money.

Bottom line - the modern Vette is a hell of a car - it handles better than pretty well anything in its price range, has more power than most people can ever use, is well built/engineered and still gets "decent" milage. The Z06 only increases all of the above.
I thought this was suppose to be a forum for people who have a love on for cars, not a place to bash anything American.

@Jeff
I know you aren't one of the haters but...
How is the LS7 not a match for the M3's V8?
The LS7 has smaller external dimensions, weighs less, and has a lower center of gravity. It produces more torque and horsepower throughout it's rev range and sips gas by comparison. Swap that LS7 into the M3. Then you would have a faster and potentially better handling car that gets a few more MPG's. Just don't pop the hood because it ain't the sexiest of motors.
If anything terminal happens to my rotary the salvagible parts are getting ebayed for down payment on a LS7. Maybe I could get a government tax credited for making it greener...

"I thought this was suppose to be a forum for people who have a love on for cars, not a place to bash anything American."
I agree 110%. Most of these threads just sound like the same cheese eating high school kids that post nonsense on every YouTube video. Scrolling through commentary looking for a post that contributes to the vehicle post is in rare form these days.
Maybe it's time to turn The Torque Report into a subscriber based forum. I'm a member of several for my hobbies, and it does weed out most of the useless banter that drags these threads down.
These plastic body panel comments kill me. I can't count on 2 hands how many lowered Hondas, Toyos, and Nissans i see every day with (gasp) plastic body parts put on them for street racer trim. Not to mention the global use of composite/plastic body parts over the decades. How many know what a Trabant is ?

McLaren F1 produced 1992-1998 had a naturally aspirated BMW 6.1L V12 putting out 627hp in first gen and 697hp by end of production. Thats 107 and 113 hp/L. Top speed 240mph. 3rd all time behind the CCR and Veyron

Some of us make lots of money and are not concerned with our fun cars gas milage (of which 18/27 is not bad at all).
I am sorry your lack of education and general failure at life has left you driving a piece of econocrap from Japan. I truely am.
Perhaps we should install a plexiglass cover on your head so that people can see your lack of brain size and lack of use of what little power you do have? Hmmm...
