The Traverse starts at $28,990 for the 2WD LS model. The Chevy crossover will come in three versions, LS, LT and LTZ and with either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. The Traverse is powered by a 3.6L V6 with direct injection technology that is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain is also going to be used in the rest of the Lambda based crossovers (Outlook, Enclave, Acadia).
The 2009 Chevy Traverse will be in dealerships this fall.

Chevrolet Announces Pricing For The 2009 Traverse
DETROIT – Chevrolet announced the 2009 Traverse crossover will carry a MSRP of $28,990, including a $735 destination charge, for the 2WD LS model. It goes on sale this fall.
"With its great styling, leading fuel economy and comprehensive roster of equipment, the Traverse is a great expression of Chevrolet value," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager.
The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse is an expressively styled, well-equipped crossover that delivers people-hauling and cargo-carrying capability typically found in larger SUVs. It is offered in LS, LT and LTZ models, in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Product highlights include:
* Expressive styling inspired by the 2008 Malibu
* Optimized aerodynamics that enhance fuel economy and reduce wind noise
* Four-wheel independent suspension system
* StabiliTrak electronic stability control system
* Family of 17-, 18- and 20-inch wheels
* Seating for up to eight adults
* Second-row Smart Slide seat feature, for easy access to the third-row seats
* Rear-seat entertainment system with second-row controls
* Six standard air bags, including side curtain air bags that deploy over all three seating rows
* OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation and Direction Download and eNav (with navigation system)
* XM Satellite Radio including NavTraffic real-time traffic feature (with navigation system)

Traverse is powered by a 3.6L engine with direct injection technology that helps produce power similar to many V-8 engines, but delivers better-than-expected fuel economy and a 25-percent reduction in cold-start emissions. The 3.6L engine is mated to the fuel-saving Hydra-Matic 6T75 six-speed automatic transmission.

So many better cars/SUVs/Crossovers can be had for that price. It looks alright, but really this is the best they can come up with? After looking at the current landscape of the auto industry and buyer choices, they seriously though, wow this is really going to fill a void!?

Why is this oversized stationwagon riding so tall? Don't they know that takes larger, more expensive shocks and cuts down on aerodynamics and gas mileage?

The 2wd version of this thing weighs 400lb more than the average minivan. If Chevy can get the weight down to minivan size but keep the good looks, then mpg goes up and people will really take notice.

28,000 is too much to be a starting price. I admit this is a very nice looking vehicle, but how many people will add this to their list of must see crossovers??
They need to consider dropping the starting price to $24,995.00.

If this is a replacement for the Suburban then seating for 8 makes sense, but the weight and big V6 will only get maybe 22 MPG on the road. Not much improvement.

I'm not a big fan of the styling of the new GM cars, but I will admit that they are pleasantly bland. These new powerplants are amazing though, and I do not doubt that this will be comparable to a tahoe or trailblazer and get high twenties for gas mileage. I'd never buy one, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't sell well. If it's as reliable as their other cars then I could see a huge market that this would appeal to.
For $30,000 I'd buy an old BelAir wagon and restore it, because there is not a single viable option out there for large, comfortable, and sporty/stylish wagons coming from anywhere but expensive germany. The single exception that comes to mind is Cadillac, but that's also not cheap. They need to make a (good looking) wagon variant of the Malibu and throw a pair of turbos on a smaller V-6 and throw it in there. Here I go dreaming again...

Nice try fake bias, I'm still trying to figure out how nobody realized the gen1 RX300 looked exactly like an Aztec, it was just 50% more expensive and less configurable inside... Yes, both ugly.
"they are pleasantly bland"... Wow so now they ARE as good as the Japanese...
Steelcity: Against what are they overweight and overpriced? Just want to know what you consider their competition.

The more things change, the more they stay the same... America is still turning out boring, overweight cars with cheap looking interiors. Somewhere I'd gotten the impression that GM/Ford/Chrysler had realised that global warming, oil prices, quality and safety were genuine consumer concerns. Clearly I was wrong.
Who the h3ll do they thing they're building these things for???
