PRESS RELEASE:
Chevrolet Announces Pricing For 2009 Aveo And Aveo5
Chevrolet today announced pricing for the 2009 Aveo lineup – including the redesigned Aveo5 five-door hatchback – begins at $12,120 (including a $660 destination charge) for Aveo LS and Aveo5 LS, making it one of the most affordable cars on the market. It costs hundreds less than many competitors and comes standard with features such as side-impact air bags and OnStar.
Aveo is also one of the most efficient cars on the road, with estimated fuel economy ratings of 27 in the city and 34 on the highway (with the standard manual transmission). Aveo sedan and Aveo5 LT models start at $14,255 for 1LT trim and $15,520 for 2LT trim (including destination charges). Air conditioning is standard on LT models and an automatic transmission is available.
All Aveo and Aveo5 models are powered by a new, more powerful 1.6L Ecotec engine that uses variable valve timing and other technologies to deliver great fuel economy and responsive performance. Aveo models equipped with the available four-speed automatic transmission also deliver excellent highway mileage ratings of 34 mpg. City mileage ratings with the automatic are 25 mpg.
“Aveo’s value story has never been stronger,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “With great fuel economy from the new 1.6L Ecotec engine, bold styling and a hard-to-match roster of features, including standard OnStar, the Aveo and Aveo5 deliver exceptional value for customers who don’t want to sacrifice style and convenience for efficiency.”
The Aveo lineup offers a high-value combination of great styling and features not expected in the segment. Crisp, sculpted lines and a wide, confident stance define both the sedan and Aveo5 hatchback’s design. This broad-shoulder appearance is highlighted by premium cues, including three-dimensional, richly detailed headlamps that extend into the hood, available front fog lamps and bold taillamps that are set within jeweled bezels. Styling for the Aveo5 is all new for ‘09, both inside and out.
All 2009 Aveo and Aveo5 models come standard with dual frontal and side-impact air bags, as well as front safety belt pretensioners, a tire pressure monitoring system, oil life monitoring system and OnStar. Available features include XM Radio, leatherette seating trim, steering wheel audio controls, a power-operated sunroof that retracts into the roof for improved aerodynamics, power-adjustable and heated outside mirrors and more.
The Aveo’s history of low ownership costs continue with strong ownership coverage. It has the best coverage in America, including Chevrolet’s five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance and courtesy transportation.

Well, it's from GM so it'll be a piece o' poo, but at least it won't drink much gas.

So for a bit more than the LT model I could get a Corolla with a manual tranny and get more room plus 35MPG City and 50MPG Highway.

looks like a mix-up between Toyota, Nissan, Honda with a bit of Chevy.
Like the color of the wheels, though.

Hey its a HUGE improvement over the previous Aveo, which looks like crap. I ended up going with a Scion xD over the Aveo for a budget/gas car because I really couldn't stand the looks of it.

Yeah right Skyline! The corolla is rated at the same 27/35 mpg as the aveo and starts at more than $15k. 35/50 mpg??? Put down the import Kool-Aid and get back to reality.

Not a bad shot at the Honda Fit. Numbers are about right, and price is a bit less than the Honda. (Plus dealers are more likely to have some flex with the price of a domestic, so it's likely to be a good bit less expensive than the Honda.)
With that going for it, it should do well if it doesn't outright suck. My past experience with American 'affordable' small cars doesn't bode well in that regard, but everytime a new one comes along I cross my fingers and hope.
Because this would be an excellent time for a domestic manufacturer to FINALLY produce a good product for this market space.

27/34 mpg does seem a little low though doesn't it? I mean I got from XXXXXXXXXX, MO to Chicago on one tank of gas, with a little left in the tank in a Mini Cooper. That was just under 600 miles on a 12 galloon tank, thats ~50mpg at a nice health 60 mph all the way. Seems to me that is a Cooper can do it, no reason why this tin can can't. Oh wait, it's from GM.....
Then again the Cooper isn't rated at 50 mpg highway, so maybe the Aveo would do better than the 34 it's advertising

First of all, it is not made by GM or Chevy it is made by Daewoo. I am not a fan of their cars but GM cannot continue to rebadge Toyotas (Potiac Vibe) if they want to get back into the small car market.
In the past GM had relations with Isuzu, Suzuki, Toyota. There could have been others, but these are the only ones that come to mind. This is no different when Dell rebranded Lexmark printers to sell as their own.
GM does not have a small car of their own to build yet, hopefully they will develop one soon.
I almost purchased one of these cars when they were selling for $7995.00, but no dealer had it in stock....

Headlights are a serious WTF move. Why are headlights running halfway down the hood and on the side of the venders these days. Its horrible how these manufacturers are using the headlights to cover up bad body designs. And this isn't just a Big 3 thing, all car manufacturers are doing it.

I don't understand the poor mileage for a car so small. I have a 2006 civic lx,140hp,averages 34.4mpg. On a long trip,all highway miles,I got 38mpg,automatic transmission.

The company I work for has some Aveo5 and sedans in their fleet. The cars succeed as economical commuters. But the current models pale in comparison to the Fit, Versa, and Yaris in fit/finish and fuel economy. The new update should help with a larger engine and better fit/finish. Personally, I would look for a regularly aspirated used Mini. Better resale and same mileage plus it drives like a gokart.

@longdxcommuter
exactly what I did, I took an outside sales job, so I traded in my passat wagon for a n/a cooper, estimated it saved me 500 a month in gas costs, and that was back when premium was around $3.00. If you only need 2 doors and almost no cargo room, the cooper is the best commuter car there is. high fuel economy + gokart handling + yuppie status symbol = win

@Jung:
These are essentially rebadged Daewoo vehicles. GM bought Daewoo when they went bankrupt several years ago.

Its not even GM, its a rebrand South Korean Car.
"The new sedan, which was developed in Korea by GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) with assistance from the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Centre (PATAC) in Shanghai, will be rolled out in more than 120 countries and territories.
The Aveo will be assembled and marketed in China by Shanghai General Motors, which like PATAC is a joint venture between GM and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. Group (SAIC)."
Thats whats wrong with GM, they sell cars and people buy thinking that they are supporting UNION workers and American families. And it turns out its made in KOREA, put a Chevy bow tie on it and Call it GM.
What a disgrace, because of these business practices GM deserves to DIE.
