2009 Cadillac CTS-V Officially Puts out 556 Horsepower

2009_cadillac_cts_v_4_new.jpg
When the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V was unveiled earlier this year, Cadillac estimated its final output at 550 horsepower, but now it is confirmed and the car actually produces 556 horsepower.

The 2009 CTS-V is powered by a 6.2L supercharged V8 engine that puts out 556 horsepower and 551 lb-ft. of torque. Cadillac claims that the car will reach 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds and the quarter mile in 12 seconds flat. The top speed when equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission is limited to 175 mph and the six-speed manual is capable of reaching 191 mph.

Timeless:

Can't wait to go test drive this one. Wonder how it will hold up to my E55 ///AMG?

Michael83:

Damn, that is FAST and the interior is "decent" for an American car, but no where near the level of the European cars.

Brian:

Cause so many Euro cars put out over 550 hp...

Anyway you slice it, that's alot of power. As long as the handling is decent, it should be a pretty sweet ride.

They should offer an option for a hood mounted blower, because everything looks better with a blower... drool.

Prodigal:

Wow this thing is sexy, is there any estimates on how much it will cost over the standard CTS?

Michael83:

"Cause so many Euro cars put out over 550 hp..."

@ Brian

Well, this cars competition is the M5, the AMG Benz's, the V-10 RS Audi sedan. All of these cars are right at about 475+ HP, so they're not too far behind in power (and many Benz's seem to have insane pull in the 1/4 due to tons of TQ).

Tommy Boy:

Wow, this is absolutely the right direction for Cadillac. With new oil fields being discovered every day and the price of gas dropping lower and lower I'll bet they sell a million of these. Brilliant strategy!

lowest iq:

that is officially 300 hp more than needed.

Dan:

@ Tommy Boy,

I'm right with you man.

We all know there will be plenty of fools buying this thing on credit, only to have it reposessed within 6 months.

I bet Cadillac in the driveway, welfare checkin the mailbox, and no brains between the ears...

Totenglocke:

Once again Cadillac shows their shortsightedness. Just as with the previous CTS-V, they aimed for the current and soon to be replaced M5, and in 2 years when the M5 is redesigned it'll blow the CTS-V away. Then about 2 years before THAT M5 is replaced, Cadillac will release a new CTS-V that matches up with the M5 that's about to be replaces.....

If they really want to be competitive, they need to start designing a car to compete with the M5 that will be on sale during the same time that CTS-V is being sold, not the one that's going to stop being sold shortly after the CTS-V goes on sale.

DrFruit:

Wouldn't it be a lot more efficient to apply for a dealership with BMW and glue a Cadillac logo on it?

Michael83:

"the price of gas dropping lower and lower I'll bet they sell a million of these. Brilliant strategy!"

@ Tommy Boy - Most people who can get into an $65k+ super sedan wouldn't even have a hard time paying Euro gas prices of $9-10/gallon, let alone our $4.50 for premium.

"will be plenty of fools buying this thing on credit, only to have it reposessed within 6 months."

@ Dan - I used to sell cars, believe me, anyone who can get into an $65k+ car isn't going to have it repoed unless they're going out with a bang on all their credit accounts (bankruptcy).

Dan:

@ Michael83:

...but people got into $300,000 houses that they can no longer afford. Why not go for the same with cars?

It's America! Live beyond your means! Make poor decisions and don't take any responsability!!!!

Brian:

@Michael83

I think you just made my point from earlier.

This car is $65k+, this is not your average everyday, I see them all the time, car. And it's not priced to be that. Which in comparison to all the other cars made, Euro, Jap, American, ect.. puts it's power range way up on the scale. (Just as it's price range is fairly high up there as well.)

I think once you start getting into the M5, R10, AMG Benz range you really just start picking your favorite. I mean for not that much more you could go up to a 911 Turbo or something in that range. I mean if you have $65k to waste on a Caddy, why not go all out!

(Not that this car is a waste per se, but $65k is a lot for any car that I don't consider exotic).

akkadain:

I really don't think cadillac cares how many they sell. It's a marketing ploy. They are just showing they have enough balls to TRY to compete with the euro and jap big boys. You don't make a cts-v to sell cts-v's, you make a cts-v to sell the regular ol' cts. It's like most people buy the v6 mustang, because part of them gets to pretend they are Steve McQueen in Bullitt.

This is new territory for Cadillac and GM (the high performance sedan) and we can't expect them to be the winner right off the bat, but does that mean they should lay down and die without trying? I'm definitly impressed with what they've come up with, even though I'd never buy one even if I could. Cadillac's image had gone a little soft, and this is an "eff you" car. Cadillac is making the right move here.

CKV:

I find the new 2009 Chevy Aveo more interesting.

I LOVE WHINING !

.

Cheap Car Lover:

I don't know why everyone says Chevy cannot compete.

If you use Germany's test track as a comparison tool:

The Cobalt SS is the fastest production FWD car in the world. 8:24
The C6 Z06 is the fastest mass produced RWD car in the world for under 100k. 7:42
This will be the fastest production sedan in the world. 7:59

The M5 does it in 8:10 and the c63 much more than that. Again how's it not competitive? Aesthetics you say? Some people care about cars being fast and money in their pockets more than they care about their navigations system having a spiffy interface. I'm glad Chevy is finally catering to those people.

Nellie:

Why do articles on American cars always boil down to insulting American lifestyles? Please keep the comments to the car. There are dozens of European cars sold in America for the same price range.

It's a nice car and I hope it lives up to the hype.

String:

Nellie,

Amen to that! I'm not even American and I find the comments on here insulting.

All we here about is complaining how Ford/GM/Chrysler can't begin to compete with the Jap/Euro brands but when they do it's still not good enough... go figure.

Nice car, far beyond what I'd be willing to spend on a car but nice car all the same.

akkadain:

just wanted to clarify my position, i don't think american cars are on par yet, but they have made great strides in the last few years, and are getting close enough to the competition to make them very uncomfortable. it's the "you can't win so don't try" attitude towards american car manufacturers that is ridiculus. euro/jap/korean (what can I say, I love me a hyundai) better watch out and continue to improve their products or we will see something of a role reversal in the next decade

Trooper Bri:

"Why do articles on American cars always boil down to insulting American lifestyles? Please keep the comments to the car."

Agreed. Until your country has landed on the moon and built space stations and space shuttles, shut up already. Fine, you make better cars. Feel better now ?

bob:

You guys that think you need 556 hp (or anything near it) are nuts.

dennisil:

@Tommy Boy; hahaha love your comment...

um you fools think a rich guy is going to drive his own car let alone a gawdy one like this you all must not know many rich people, they usually have drivers and limos or maybachs and they don’t even ask there drivers to go fast, this is a phallic extension and it works to a degree because the small phallus males want it and crave the attention they think it will give them unfortunately the only attention you will get is from other micro phallus males, making this a phallus-magnet at best, sure some girls might like it but they also might be the kind of girls that play softball, belch and drink beer from a can. Or better yet they see you as a wallet with a small phallus and you’re now just her chauffer…

Whoever doesn’t agree with this rant is free to post a retort but I grantee I will not waste my time reading it.

In closing I think caddy’s are not luxury or sport they are in my opinion a rubbish thing you buy when you need to feel like a big man… can you say napoleon syndrome

anonymous:

What a waste, how fast can it get to the gas station. We need cars that run on other fuels.

Seiya:

Usually I don't like American car, but this car is pretty. I think it will blow M5 and E63 away.

khan saab:

god wats the price tag on one of these i usually despise american cars but this looks nice.

D!:

Competition is always good and this car is bring the heat! Even if you don't like this car other people do and car manufacturers will have to make their cars that much better.

Tommy Boy:

@Michael83

I hear you bro, that is so true of the Hummer. Who cares that their sales dropped 36% so far this year, the biggest drop among a single brand? With its stock at a 5-year low, GM certainly knows what it's doing.
