2009 Acura TSX Awarded IIHS "Top Safety Pick"

2009_acura_tsx_press_crash.jpg
The all-new 2009 Acura TSX may have a weird grille, but at least the car will perform well in a crash. The IIHS has named the all-new TSX as a "Top Safety Pick" in its class.

In order to qualify for the "Top Safety Pick" Award a vehicle must receive the institutes highest rating (good) in front, rear and side crash tests and be equipped with electronic stability control. The new TSX improved over the previous generation that only received an "acceptable" rating in the side crash tests and a poor rating in the rear test.

The 2009 Acura TSX is in showrooms now and is powered by a 201 horsepower 2.4L 4-cylinder engine. Prices start at $28,960 and the top TSX goes for $32,060.

When you can only muster 0-60 in 8 something seconds I'm sure it's pretty easy to be safe. I'm still waiting to see one of these on the road, only one's I've seen have been at the dealership where they looked just as bad IMO. I was hoping it would be like the Accord and look better in person but it wasn't.

Third.

CCL:

32k is a lot of money. Why do people buy these?

Joe:

Some misconceptions: It goes 0-60 in 6.7 seconds according to C/D. Find another luxury nameplate sedan with leather, real-time traffic GPS nav system, sunroof, bluetooth, 5.1 srs with over 400 watts, auto transmission for $32k even. A BMW 328 and MB C300 will break $40k. If you have a wife that wants a premium entry level sedan with all the options this is it.

Now for car guys see the stripped out BMW 135...

Cappy:

I have driven this car and tried out its technology. This car is such an awesome vehicle for what it has and what it can do at this price. I can play music on the stereo via Bluetooth (NO WIRES NEEDED!!!!!) from my Blackberry Pearl and it sounds awesome on the Surround sound system. Show me any other vehicle that has even that capability nevermind everything else this vehicle can do. Acura blows away all other companies in Technology and that's what people want these days. So keep your CD players and LEATHERETTE Grandpa!!

@ Cappy

How about a Ford Focus? How about everything Ford makes? Heard of Microsoft Sync?

How about every other luxury carmaker in the world? You're a little too pro-Acura.

Cappy:

BMW's iDrive sux. Where is TRUE SURROUND SOUND over 6 Channels in any other automaker including that sh i t box Ford Focus. Over 7 million voice commands for Nav, Radio, CLIMATE, etc. Oh and Real Time Traffic and WEATHER with automatic rerouting. Found On Road Dead have any of that? BLUETOOTH AUDIO????? in other luxury brands??????? check it out. And at only $32K wow that gets rid of every other luxury brand with equipment even close to this.

Cappy:

Someone else is a little too pro-FORD if you ask me. Hopin' they'll make a comeback? Don't like the "Jap Crap"? Why are the Japanese brands more reliable? Big Three too focused on Trucks? Hands down FORD makes the BEST TRUCKS!!! You heard it from the pro-Acura man but as far as CARS go they have a long way to go. Are they learning from their mistakes i.e. Fusion's Safety issues? I hope so. But like I said "LONG WAY TO GO" Competition is good it forces these companies to make better vehicles.

Brad:

I don't understand how Acura can even compete trying to sell a front wheel drive car as a luxury-sport car. It's only $32k becuase you can get pretty much the same options on a Nissan Sentra. You want some real price competition put this up against a Lexus IS250.

gm0n3y:

Acura isn't really a luxury brand. At least not on the same level as BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Merc, etc. They are somewhere in between luxury and economy. Their prices show this too, that's why they sell so many cars.

John C:

Sure looks like a nice car to me. Complaining about the cost at $32K? Have you looked at other cars in this class recently? Huh? I think Acura has a winner on their hands with the new TSX. I can't wait to see the look of the new TL. I think the cost of the new TL will be the challenging issue for Acura. They need it to be more than a TSX (naturally), but less then a Lexus.

Gary:

@Joe

Edmunds and Consumers Guide have the TSX at 7.7 and 7.9, so if C&D did get theirs to do 0-60 in the same time as the SI then they are gods of driving. The last gen TSX could barely muster 7 seconds flat and I think it's 1/4 was in the 15's. It's pretty much impossible to shave time when you add weight to the car and don't increase power enough to offset.

I do agree it's a great car for a girl though.

Phil:

The TSX is a good car, its not that slow and it has one of the longest standard list out there for the price and it has reliability as well...and with the gas prices these days who doesnt want a car who can easily get 30+ mpg on the highway.

@Phil,

Dude, maybe you can go to another website and spend a few days there learning how to post single messages. Then you wouldn't be spamming all of us with your mindless drivel 3 times over. Okay? Thanks!

Phil:

@ cobaltssman:

Im not spamming you guys, my computer froze and it accidently posted it multiple times...why are you so pissed off? lol. sry for displaying my opinion on a car.

John C:

I had to stop at my Acura dealer to pick up a part for my '05 TL and saw many of the new TSX models in the back of the lot. Wow! Photos just don't do this car justice. I love it. It almost appears to be the size of the current TL and the styling is just so nice. I was concerned about the look of the 'grill' in some of the photos, but in real life the front end and grill are nicely designed. I like the size of the car and it really is priced right. I actually would consider a TSX to replace my current TL. Especially given the likely gas mileage improvement over a TL and the more than adequate performance. Acura is really getting back on track.

GT Fan:

However, this news, will surely help bolster TSX sales though.

Does the old phrase "any publicity, is good publicity" apply?
Time will tell.

I still cant really get used to the chunky chrome looking front grille look of a lot of manufacturers as of late... just looks odd to me.
