Rolls-Royce has released the first official design sketches of the automakers next new model, known as the RR4.

The all-new RR4 is going to be smaller than the Phantom and will be released sometime in 2010. The RR4 will also be powered by a new engine that is unique to the brand. The overall design of the RR4 is more informal than the current Phantom with more emphasis on driving.

Rolls-Royce did not give any other details on the new car, but it is rumored that the RR4 will be powered by a 6.0L V12 engine that produces 550 horsepower. Expect more details to be released in 2009.

PRESS RELEASE:

ROLLS-ROYCE RELEASES FIRST SKETCHES OF RR4

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars today revealed the first design sketches of its next new model. Known as RR4, the car is due to be launched in 2010 and will sit alongside the Phantom model line-up. RR4 will be smaller than Phantom and powered by a new engine, unique to Rolls-Royce.

The design was signed off in 2007 and engineering development is now fully underway. The Goodwood manufacturing facilities are being completely reconfigured to accommodate the RR4, with extended paint, wood and leather shops as well as a second assembly line. The company will move to a two shift system next year as it gears up for full production of the new model.

Chief designer, Ian Cameron, said, “Effortless performance and standard-setting levels of comfort and efficiency, executed with the utmost care and attention, remain fundamentals of Rolls-Royce design. The RR4 has a more informal presence than the Phantom models with a greater emphasis on driving. In design terms this is expressed through its slightly smaller dimensions and more organic form, yet with powerful, purposeful proportions. It is a true and uncompromising Rolls-Royce in every sense.”

“RR4 will mark a milestone in the history of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars”, Chairman, Ian Robertson added. “The business continues to go from strength to strength and the introduction of this new model will expand the appeal of the brand. We look forward to this next chapter with anticipation and confidence.”

Further design and engineering details will be announced during the course of 2009.

lowest iq:

with the USA in recession for the next 4 years, i'd focus the RR4 on Asia and Europe.
I dont think the Lincoln-esque experior is right for these markets.

Cheap Car Lover:

The super rich don't really get hit in a recession like the rest of us. They'll be able to afford it.

This picture doesn't really tell us anything. The roofline is too low to be a real production car anyways. I feel like I'm looking at a snapshot from speedracer.

I'd like a 550hp 6l v12... : o )

WORST TEASER PHOTO EVER

Ok, maybe there have been worse (new Subaru Impreza comes to mind), but seriously, what's the point in even releasing that photo?

Rich:

**yawn**

Another one? wow. whee. whoopee. yay.

Still looks like a Bentley.

Schillacci:

Hum.

Cadillac sixteen anyone?

I mean... I know that it's hard to create anew in the car industry, but at first glance this looked like a copy and paste type of sketch.

Anyway, on the previously said, global wealth is dividing again, so there will be a lot of plutocrats out there to be amused and bathed in hot chocolate. It's us, the middle class, who should be shivering. After all, RR is growing quite fastly (incredible as it sounds), and so are Bentleys, and Fezzas and Lambos...

Btw, 550hp sounds a bit distasteful for me. They should only list the torque. Not gonna race that thing, anyways.

Hey did you know that "The platform itself is said to be flexible enough to allow the car to have a wheelbase, roof height, bonnet height and track widths all of its own. Other bits and pieces will also be shared with the BMW but will be packaged in a way that the owner would not notice this. The engine is rumored to be either a twin-turbo V8 or a V12 tuned to produce number below that of the Phantom."
