Ford Finally Decides to Bring its Euro Models to the US

ford_kuga_red.jpg
Ford has already announced plans to bring the all-new Ford Fiesta to the US by 2010. The Fiesta is going to be the first of the European Fords that will finally make the trek over to the US.

Mark Fields, Ford president of America, has confirmed that the next Focus (late 2010 or early 2011) will be a world car, something that we've all been whining about for years The European Focus is far better than the model we have here. Fields also recently told the Automotive News that the US is eventually going to get a version of the European Ford Kuga crossover and C-Max.

Mazda6 Guy:

About time...

CKV:

Thank god/GOD... whatever,

EuroFord offers far superior vehicles compared to North America Ford.

I LOVE WHINING !

Sandmanwn:

Just hope they make some small changes to the front grille. The front license plate in the US is shaped differently which makes the Euro grilles look like they are smiling at you oddly.

Increase the size of the top grille by a few inches and shrink the lower grill by the same amount to give it some balance and its good to go.

Tommy Boy:

Should read "Ford Finally Decides to Bring its Ugliest Euro Models to the US". Japs do it better, get over it.

o:

thats the us probelm and why you have lame cars noone buys bmw and adui dont listen to make the grill smaller and there models are succesful as SANDMANWN said make the top smaller and tyhe botom grill bigger that would wreck the entire tdesign and unblance it

Gary:

Now that's a CRV competitor, sad it took them so long to bring it state side, but good that they finally did.

lowest iq:

good, but please dont ship anything back.

Cheap Car Lover:

Yay!

TomT:

I think it is ugly enough to catch peoples attention and garner alot of sales for Ford. Good move! or Bold Move?

Terence:

That Kuga looks pretty nice

Sandmanwn:

Just noticed the shift nob. Yeah thats gotta go too. I used to have one of those back in the 80's somewhere. Glad I left it there too. Center console needs some work as well. Its a little daft and dull. The dash looks good though.

Matt:

Can we have the 6 speed?? PLEASE???

Why is it that I have to buy a $12000 small car, a $30000+ coupe, or a truck to get a manual transmission (option)?

dennisil:

i dont know how im going to get used to driving on the right hand side? and how fast is this ford going to go arround the nurburgring?

akkadain:

I thought we (usa) won world war 2, why do we get all the crap cars? it's the cycle of life: 1. save the world 2. pay to rebuild it 3. peddle the same old 20 year old engineering to a stagnant market 4. cry tears of shame as americans prefer/trust cars from the countries we destroyed/rebuilt/saved. 5. finally get off our plump american bottoms and either make better cars/buy a foreign brand and re-badge it/import cars from another country and call it american.... capitalism for the win...

Alex Greene:

A very nice looking car..just like most other European Ford models... But waiting until 2010-2011...WTF!

Rich:

I guess Ford has enough capital reserve to wait 2 years. Many of the cars Ford and other manufacturers send to Europe and not here are in fact better than the cars we have. In keeping with Ford, look at the Ford Mondeo. Nice looking, great performer, roomy, and a decent price. Sell it in the US, nah. Instead, we get the Ford Taurus, and Focus leftovers.

GM is finally smartening up and bringing some cars from Holden and selling them here. And it works!

DUH!!

D:

Wow, is that a Ford? Hard to believe with the blocks of wood they like to call styling over here.

Saheed:

It took them long enough!!!

Tommy Boy:

Tommy Boy Imposter

If Japan is SO much better why don't you go and live there.

As for the cars, have them built in the U.S. (we need jobs)

PATRICK:

what's the mpg?

longdxcommuter:

@Matt:
Agreed, but unfortunately manuals account for approximately 5% of new car sales. It is becoming a lost art in the States and many new drivers will never experience the joy of shifting themselves. I plan on teaching my kids (when they are of age) how to drive a manual transmission.

As for Ford, all I can say is FINALLY. GM has tapped both its european and Australian arms for new products ( Saturn line, G8) and I think Ford finally is realizing that ( in reference to small cars) their respective European branch makes far superior cars.

Cheap Car Lover:

Stick shifts have grown out of style in the US because Americans are rich, fat, and lazy. Besides, it's hard to talk on the phone (or text), eat dinner, and slap your kids in the backseat while driving a stickshift.

All my cars are manual shift. I realize it's not faster anymore. But it's much simpler and cheaper to maintain than a DSG. Manuals make me *feel* like I'm part of the car.

longdxcommuter:

@Cheap Car Lover:

LOL, I have to agree with your assessment. In the Maryland/DC corridor where I live, I think it must be a requirement for drivers to instantly dial a cellphone after turning on the ignition, or read ( fun to watch people read a book, look up after several seconds , drive 30 feet , stop and repeat during rush hour), apply makeup, eat, or for text messaging. Even better when they are doing that in a sloppy 3 ton SUV.

Joan of Arc:

It's finally good to see a manual-transmission lover begin to see that they're not the fastest anymore, however sad that may be. A lot of folks at my workplace still believe all autos are the slowest ever...

But then again, they drive trucks... not too familiar with those types of transmissions, but from the sounds of it, the autos must be terrible!

mf:

@Joan of Arc
Even if it is faster, dsg is not as fuel mileage friendly, so I still prefer manual.

Nick:

Turbo diesel?

Sandmanwn:

Uh nope... Diesel supply is limited in the US.

The last thing we need is a push for one fossil fuel over another. We have much brighter fuel sources and methodologies to work towards other than diesel.

Alex:

I also hate automatic cars, i've been looking for a new car for a bit now (Newer, not brand new) and its tough to find a car with a manual!!! Im still undecided though on paying for a new car vs. my paid off truck and just dealing with the gas. (12mpg)

John:

Bring the f*cking Mondeo over!!!

Billy G:

Looks like a RAV4 or Honda CRV.

Tyler:

YES!!! Replace our whole lineup with it.

Kuga=Explorer
Mondeo=Fusion
Euro Focus=american Focus
Fiesta=awesomeness
Euro Ranger=american Ranger
And whatever they want to do.

Bob:

It is going to take 2 to 5 years for Ford to get its European models over here??? They must be using row boats to save on shipping costs!

Mike O:

I flew to Montepellier France last summer to catch a couple of stages of the Tour de France. I rented a beautiful diesel Ford Mondeo, 6 speed manual. It had plenty of room and I was gettting about 35 miles per gallon city/highway driving. Almost every car in France, large or small, was a diesel. They are not dumb. The diesel gets about 30% mpg than the gasoline engine. The French are using diesel and exporting their gas to us in tankers. We need to wake up.

JB:

Yeah, well diesel now costs 25% or so more than gasoline, so the actual fuel costs savings isn't that much.

Then factor in the costs of maintaining and repairing a diesel, and the gasoline engine becomes the clear winner. Back when diesel fuel was cheaper than gasoline, the story was different.

And just because something is successful in Europe doesn't mean it will be successful here. They are two different markets. Just food for thought.
