First All-New 2010 Nissan 370Z Photo Leaked!

2010_nissan_370z_image_leak.jpg
Nissan recently held a private event where the new Nissan 370Z was unveiled. Apparently the automaker forgot to take away all the camera phones from the attendees.

This single shot was taken with a camera phone (explains the poor quality) and shows the overall design of the new Z. The overall design is more of an evolution of the current 350Z. The engine gets a bump in displacement from 3.5L to 3.7L (hence the 370Z name). Power is expected to be between 330-350 horsepower.

The all-new 370Z will be officially unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November.

The photo looks sprisingly well composed for a camera phone. Lighting is rather dramatic, too.

Allen:

350 hp would make this a base 911 turbo chaser, and more than a match for the current 3 series coupe...

Go for gold Nissan.

Noya:

Base 911 Turbo chaser....ummm, NO.

Base 911 (non-S) chaser....YES.

And possibly a match for the 335i coupe in performance stats.

g:

reminds me of the old datsun z's.

JerryL:

@Allen

The BMW M3 is 400hp. Or are you comparing apples and oranges?

I don't see much difference between the photo and the current Z-series, but I'll admit I don't track this car as well as some others. Still, the current model is pretty and performs well and that looks to be very similar. I've nodoubt it will be a popular car with many happy owners.

JerryL:

Am I the only one who thinks that doesn't look like a cameraphone / amiture shot?

Sandmanwn:

Nah, the phones over there are leaps and bounds ahead of what we get.

Mike M:

I agree. The phones there are great, but this looks like a shot from the cover of a brochure or something. That or the actual shot was manipulated to remove the background, floor (unless the car was up on a pedestal or something). I think it was a camera phone shot of the brochure...not the actual car...ha.

John:

Um...How old is this picture?

John:

Um...How old is this news?

Jason:

I have to agree with Jerry and Mike, the lighting in this picture seems a little too good for a camera phone paparazzi. The accents are even good enough to show the wheel design and full headlight structure. But who knows, maybe it is just a really lucky shot.

Either way, this new 370Z should be nicer than the model it's replacing. At least a 50hp increase is always good news, I'm guessing it will make more though since the G37 makes 330hp (and so far looks better). The VVEL system seems really nice, and if I'm not mistaken it's the first time this type of system is used in a true sports car... well as much as that definition has changed in the past few years...

Krazeee:

It looks like a camera phone shot of a big screen picture, and not an actual car on a pedestal (hence no backround or flooring). I'm guessing the photographer couldn't get close enough to the display car (if there was one) and took a picture of the screen.

kw:

Geez, you people are pulling a lot of hair out over a near complete lack of facts.

HP numbers are meaningless without knowing the weight they'll be pushing around. You know ZERO about what this will weigh.

And there's a single pic here, taken of what MIGHT be a photo, but is more likely a computer generated image or MAYBE even just an artists concept.

Honestly, people. Get a grip.

akkadain:

extra power is good, and it does remind of the old datsuns, but i still don't like it. I know plenty of people love the look of the current z, and from the front, i agree, but I hate the rear. the headlights on the new z here seem pointless, and I prefer the overall shape of the current z. If you like the current z or the new one, great. I'm glad you do. But this was not the redesign I was looking for. I love the g35/37, but I think they need a new direction with the Z

p.s. anyone else think the front end of this pic looks a little like a s2000?

Turkle:

I know that a few of the reports about the new Z said that the wheel base would actually be shorter than the current model. Looking at the current one and this one side by side, it seems that there is less space between the trailing end of the door and the beginning of the wheel well. (The photo angle could also be misleading in this respect.) Maybe Nissan has shortened this car and hopefully that will translate into a lighter car.

Dave K:

Definitely reminiscent of the old Datsun Z's... which were very nice looking cars.

WVO:

If wishes and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all be happy at Christmas. All this is speculation. A bump in displacement could mean an increase in torque, not HP.

Wonder if they will fix the extreme wearing of the insides of the tires? I have 1800 miles now on my brand new 2008 350Z and even with a dealer alignment off the showroom floor, I can measure a difference.

But its SOOoo fun to drive! :)

Gary:

Finally one car making that doesn't botch the redesign of a nice car. Lets hope it got put on a diet too.

I hope power is closer to the 350 mark as the Genesis Coupe will probably eat the sales up if it's closer to 330. I think the Z looks marginally better but the price difference will matter a good number of people.

dennisil:

if there was no GTR i would say this is the coolest thing ever but i cant say that for obviouse reasons

Travis:

Rumors are that at least for the launch version, Power will be 320~330 hp, apparently there are concerns about it starting to cannibalize G37 sales. Weight is rumored to be just under 3100 lbs, the car is rumored to be noticeably smaller than the current 350Z. Price is rumored to be a tick up from the 350Z which likely means the base will cost 30~32, and the loaded will run about 45K. This picture was alleged to have been taken of a presentation slide, that was shown to a room of people. It is said to have been taken with a camera phone.

Well thats all I know about this one.

Eddie Ge:

I like the car, although im not too thrilled about that new protrusion on the headlights (looks weird..)

and did anyone else think that the new grille looks like one from an S2000?

Noya:

Travis is right on the money.

This 370z is supposed to be smaller and lighter = better performance in every aspect (handling, braking, acceleration, etc).

On a personal note, I hope the new Hyundai RWD coupe eats the Z in sales numbers, and at $22k-32k it most likely will. If the 2.0L Turbo engine is as stout as it should be, it will be laying down 300+ rear wheel HP with a few thousand in mods.

Nissan has really pissed me off with their pricing of the Z since it's inception. It doesn't cost notably more to manufacture than a top-line Altima or Maxima, yet a nice model with Brembo's and an LSD is $40k+...which is ridiculous when it basically has a slightly hopped up VQ engine and the fact that an automaker like Nissan orders / contract license huge amounts of Brembo's.

On another rant, have any of you ever drove a Z?

I admit it's a fun car to drive (as any RWD car with a decent HP/weight ratio is), but the interior is absolutely atrocious. Nothing but cheap plastic and the the door panels seem as if they were lifted from a Dodge Charger. While the seats were supportive, their quality was also crap, again similar to a Chrysler product.

Now only if Honda would produce a RWD successor to the Prelude with the Accord / TL V-6.

And where's Toyota with it's Supra replacement?

Cheap Car Lover:

If it has 340hp and weighs 3100 pounds it will be a very very fast car. That should be on par performance wise with a 98' corvette c5 hardtop. (not the z06) But, it's done on the cheap.

It seems like (from all the speculation) Nissan focused more on performance this time around. Should be good.

As far as it being a cheap car, I've got no problems with that. If someone wants a luxurious 370z they should just buy the Infiniti G37. Make the 370 as cheap as dirt, and as fast as crap.

@ Noya

Brembos are still expensive, even when ordered in bulk.

An LSD should never be more than a $500 option unless it's a variable speed job.

RX-7 Guy:

I like the new Z's, only problem is so do many others. I pass 20 a day going to work and back. I really love the riced ones because they always want to show off. Every once in awhile let them see a little Mazda zoom zoom just for giggles.

hater:

Wow, it's revolutionary, it looks like a Z.

Joan of Arc:

You can't compare this car to a 3-series BMW. Definitely not the same class of car, but if the rumours are right about weight, size, etc, it should out-perform it.

Can't bash the 3-series performance... it does damn well considering it's a fairly comfortable family car.

Gary:

@Noya

Agreed on the cheap plastic interior, I was actually pretty shocked the first time I rode in a Z. Hopefully they rectify that in this iteration.

I think the Genesis Coupe is slotted for $19k-$26K not $22k-32k. However if this Z does come in under or close to 3100lbs then it will be much more nimble than the Genesis at 3300lbs. Either way I'll save the $10K-$20K and get a Genesis most likely.

SteelCity1981:

What's up with those ugly headlights?

lowest iq:

someone knocked the designer, just with all Nissans of late

Jason:

From all the rumors going around, it seems the 370Z is going to be built on a revised version of the old chassis. I was under the impression this is just a facelift and a new engine. Kind of like the NSX in 2002, or even like the old 240/260/280Z, but who knows. I don't see Nissan going through all the expense of making a revision to the FM platform again (it's already been streteched and widened for Infiniti cars and compacted for the Skyline), but who knows. Maybe this is just the Skyline chassis revision with improved G37 running gear.

@Travis:

Nissan doesn't seem too worried about cannabilizing G37 sales with this new car. The G35 and 350Z were sold side by side with only a 7hp difference and a larger pricetag for the G. The Z is the sports car, and the G is tourer, at least in Nissans book.

@Noya:

Nissan was bankrupt a decade ago, can you figure out their pricing strategy based on that?

Tibbz:

This little pony should not affect the G35/G37 sales at all. Nissian aims the G37/G35 to Young -middle age adults who want somthing comfortable but stills has some kick under the hood. Besides the Infiniti has more Computer Assisted this's and thats making it handle better than any BMW or Benz for its size. The 370 Z will probably have slightly less HP (like said before 320-330) and will not have all the froof like the G. 370Z (like its predecessors) will be targeted to the younger crowd.

The only sales the Z will be hurting is Ford's Musdang and probably even bitting in the Subaru sales as well.

gm0n3y:

The only problem with you guys saying that this will not cannibalize G sales is that the G is cheaper ($47,350 vs 49,948) and even the top model G is only $2 more that the 350z (49,950 vs 49,948). So sure the 350z might have SLIGHTLY more performance, but the G is a much more luxurious and better looking car for the same amount of money or less.

Cheap Car Lover:

@ Tibbz

I've owned a G35 and 2 M3's. The G35 did handle well, but not better than the BMW's. Even my mom's 528i made me feel more in control, but it didn't handle as well.

Computer assited crap doesn't improve a cars handling unless you're an absolutely terrible driver, you're in a panic situation and lose your calm, it's raining really really hard, or you're in a Skyline.

Also of note, the G35 uses a really agressive camber angle to acheive it's handling levels and prematurely wears out your tires. BMW has a better way(but still some negative camber, of course). I liked the G35 though, it was the best handling Japanese car I've ever owned.

Vtfo0lio:

Anyone here else but me thinks it looks like a hardtop s2000 from the belt-line on up? I love my S2000 but I've always wanted an S2000 with more power. With 3100 lbs it weights 300 more than the S but with 330hp or so, it would far pass it in hp/weight. And those rear fenders look fat enough to hold 255s stock (hell, even 285s!). Lets just hope those 400lbs it lost over the last generation translate to great handling and slalom numbers.

Travis:

Actually I think it looks a lot like the venerable 280. which is IMHO a pretty good thing, But that is just me.

o:

its ok
but you yanks still use the cdma network dont you
nearly all of japan and australia are running on 3G

Splat:

I don't think anyone can comment on this and the performance of the car in relation to power-to-weight.

This used to be a tried and true way of measuring just how fast a car was, this has now all but changed with the new nissna R35 GTR, it's power and weight a worse than a 911 Turbo, yet it beats it hands anywhere anytime thanks to its neat 4wd system. I know this is not 4wd, just a thought on the way things are changing.

vtfo0lio:

Power/weight still matters. It will always matter. The R35 is a fantastic car but without its launch control it hits 12 flat in the quarter, fast but nowhere near its 11.3 w/ the launch control. And it traps 120 in the quarter while the turbo traps 124 and a C6 z06 traps 127. Hence, from a roll, those cars would murder the R35. Dont get me wrong, I love the R35. It just became my halo/benchmark car, next to an Evo and the M3.

Jake:

boring and shit looking car. needs some proper designers behind it.

Cheap Car Lover:

Power/weight makes a car more fun to drive. Weight in general hurts the driving experience. A GTR will certainly beat it (unless it's a super small autoX track) but a Lotus has got to be more fun to drive.

Hangman:

You'd hope it would be faster since the 350 was a step backwards; the 300ZX (twin turbo) was/is faster.

harryo:

Doubt that was a camera phone, looks like a professional shot, but damn sexy car anyway!

Kell:

Unless this car posts some absolutely stunning numbers to justify it's price, my money's on the Genesis coupe. A 2.0T Genesis with some turbo tweaks will get the same hp as this car with a lot more torque to boot. For ten grand less.
