Audi issued a new sales report on Tuesday that said its "stock of Audi R8 cars is sold out for months to come." Pretty disappointing for anyone that is hoping to grab one of these awesome cars.
Although Audi stated that the R8 is currently sold out, the automaker stopped short of actually releasing how many R8s have already been sold. Audi's sales rose 2.9 percent last month with 86,700 cars sold worldwide last month.
Audi also reported that the Q7 SUV has become the automaker's second most successful vehicle in the U.S. market after the A4.

Probably because it's awesome. Awesome cars always start a wait list. Carmakers should make more awesome cars and less plain-jane cars that sit on lots for an eternity..

I'm still not sold on the R8, Audi build quality is questionable, and I hate the stripe down the side. When painted all one color it doesn't look bad though. And yes Iron Man was an awesome movie, I read the funniest review of it this morning (monkeywithswordsforhands.com/2008/05/06/iron-man-review/)

I would be a little concerned driving the A8. From the number of test cars that caught on fire at the track and now stories (and pictures) of at least one production car catching on fire in Europe I think I would wait until they resolve that problem.

@Brad
Do you know how many problems pre-production and prototype cars have? That's why they're tested at the track - to put the cars under maximum stress to cause any problem areas to surface so they can be corrected before "production".
The only reason we know about the fires in the R8 were because they were testing at a track where spy photographers hang out waiting for a glimpse of any new car.
If only you knew how many problems like this occurred "behind closed doors" where the manufacturer is testing vehicles in house.
Basing your opinion of a car on incidents that happened to a "prototype" is just plain stupid.

More proof that style is subjective. This car looks like a dustbuster that got a $100 ground effects kit from J.C. Whitney.
If I had to pick a "Western" manufacturer today that would produce a car that would catch on fire, I would pick VW/Audi.
Reality is, they suck.

Great car. However I'd buy a 911 simply because of the horrible Audi/VW quality control.

Yeah, R8s catching on fire on the track during production is normal for high-performance prototypes. I'm sure Calibers and Focuses don't burst into flame, but I'm sure other vehicles (Corvettes, BMWs, Cadillacs, etc) have had their fair share of fiery stories.
