for that money, you can buy a Sonata.

This blows the doors off the Sonata in styling.

For that money you could buy a Sonata, but why would you want to? so you can soak up worse resale values, have an uncomfortable poorly designed interior, worse handling, dumpy exterior design, and a much weaker V-6. About the only thing good I can say about the Sonata is that from what I have heard it's a very reliable car, with a good warranty.

Does Mazda really think it's 6 is anywhere comparable to a Camry or Accord to be posting such a high price for this car? The styling is nice, but that alone isn't enough for it to stand against the other sedans. Even in its home market, this Atenza is considered rather bland under it pretty skin.

As for styling, this car beats the freakin Camry any day. Don't even talk about the Accord, jesus, who the hell approbed that damn design. It looks like GM Design studio's reject. Don't get me wrong, I love Hondas, but lately their stylings are questionable. This even extends to their motorcycle. Have you seen the profile view of the new CBR 1000RR? It looks like someone squish it from both ends.

Its nice to see Mazda finally in line with its competitors... Im a die hard Mazda fan, but it always seemed like a compromise in some way shape or form vs. other cars, including with my underpowered I4 Mazda6 hatch; now they finally have a sporty, sexy car with power and features at thousands less than BMW or Mercedes (Don't even get started on how Mercedes is more reliable... cause its not), the only thing you're losing is the prestige name badge. My wife and I are gladly going to trade in her Mercedes for the new fully loaded Mazda6.

@Jason
u r kiding arn't you. In Australia the Camry or accord don't comapre to a 6 (except accord auro which u call Acura something). Although the probelms may be your dodgy american factories since yours are made locally where as we get Japanese ones.
And talking about homemarket well your looks completely different to the rest of the world, pay an extra 6-10k and you will get the better international ones(that goes for pratically all the jap and euro cars you get), not some stripped out american model where they are so tight they even have to put cheaper headlightson it.

Quit whining , you spoiled amys...you get V6 270+HP sport version for 25k$, while the very basic 1.8 litre model costs well over 27k$ in Europe(heck, we dont even have a choice of the big V6 models...You rahter should be a little more grateful for cheap cars and cheap gasoline that you have over there ..and enjoy it while it lasts ... it wont be long ...

@Luke:
By "home markets" I mean Japan, Mazda being Japanese. The 6 doesn't come close to Nissan or Toyota sedans in Japan, both in performance or quality. Either way, the US market is the one that really counts in the end. Whatever Mazda deems fit for the US needs to apply to the masses. Perfomance, looks, reliability, quality, and price are what should matter most, and it doesn't seem the 6 has all of those right. Mazda still ranks down there with Mitsubishi in terms of Quality, so why should the price be equal to an Accord or Camry?
However, I'm suprised you think this is better than an Aurion. Although the Aurion may not handle as well, it looks better and even comes supercharged.
@S_Howl:
As stated by Luke, you guys get an International version of the car, which costs more. Europe actually gets an International version of every foreign car, your Chrysler Viper is a bit different to the ones here in the US, if I remember. Either way, you shouldn't complain about exclusive models we get in the US, you guys have a large variety of diesel cars to choose from. Here in the US we only have the Jetta diesel, whereas Europe gets such nice cars as the IS220d, Civic turbodiesel, and even the 6 diesel.
After looking at the car more, it is very reminiscent of the Pontiac G6 front and Chrysler Sebring in the rear.

While it's true that this car starts at the same price point of a Sonata, adding features in a Sonata will cost less. A topped out Sonata will cost A LOT less than a topped out Mazda6 with the same features. The interior of the 2009 Sonata is up there with any other car. And there is only a few HP difference (less than 10) in power. Plus you get a 10 year warranty.
The Mazda6 does look better, however, although the Sonata was never meant to be a "sports" sedan.
