Camaro5 forums (the site that is all about the new Camaro) has just put up photos of the V6 Chevy Camaro. Rather than just a few pics of the exterior of the car, these photos give us our first glimpse of the actual V6 engine under the hood.
From the looks of it, it looks like the Camaro is going to receive a version of GM's 3.6L direct-injection V6. This is the same engine that puts out 304 horsepower in the Cadillac CTS. Check back soon for pics of the Camaro's V8 soon...can't imagine they are that far off.

wonder what the handling is like, and if it gets decent fuel economy the CTS gets 18/26 if the V6 Camaro weighs in at a trim weight like 3200 lbs it could be a pretty good ride. Shame it's so ugly though, hope the after market parts roll in soon, If someone makes a decent looking front and rear end and replacement rear fenders without the cheap looking fake air vents in them, I could see some potential in this car.

Damn! that is one ugly car.
Big flat (cheap) slab sides with wheel wells so large you'd need 20"+ wheels to fill them out...not to mention the incredibly cheezy front fender flairs and fake rear vents.
Git-R-Done!!

I wonder why they're squandering the air intake scoop on the front.
It seems like it'd be pretty easy to put a filter between the intake and scoop.
I guess all the scoops and vents and stuff are fake. What a waste.
If it's really the 3.6 DI it's going to one very expensive v6 camaro. What's the point? An ls1 would be cheaper, more powerful, and get better gas mileage.

You really have to see the new camaro in person to appreciate it. The pictures don't do it justice.

@ Travis
The Camaro should get about 30 mpg highway.
Anyway, If I am to get a muscle car, I might as well get a V8 in it.

Would you rather it was more GT-R news? I mean I love that car, but come on.

I like this car about as much as I like cauliflower. Without butter and salt.
Hairy chested, gold chain wearing greaseballs are going to get to re-live their Z28 days. Will it have a T-top option? Hi-Fi stereo? And I just love the IROC Z28 leftover wheel design!
The 'hood scoop' is about as stupid as the scoop on the 1973 Trans Am. Do you know why Pontiac put the scoop at the leading edge on that T/A? They believed there was a higher air pressure at the edge of the car, and that helped with the "Ram Air" design.
Come on, GM! Are you for real? The stolen quarter panel scoops help with what, exactly? Do they vent the treads on the rear wheels to help increase traction? What purpose could they possibly serve? Stolen straight from the Mustang.
The wide look front and rear are made worse by the small headlights, and 'chopped' tallights. And why in the hell would you put orange lenses on the outer taillights? Please use all red in the back, trust me on this. And make the wheel cuouts a little smaller. Unless you have the huge wheels (and most of these wont') it will remind us of the mini truck craze of the late 80's with the Mazda B2300 pickups and 13" wheels.
Dumb.

I'm sur eyou know this, but here it is anyways.
Rear quarter panel scoops would be used for rear brake cooling ducts, but I'm sure these are fake garbage.

Looks pretty good except for 1 or 2 details. The V6 engine is a good engine and a good racional choise for people that cant afford the taxes and the fuel.
It will also have good handling im sure. If the price is right it is a nice car.
Im surprised that in the middle of the usual dumb anti-american-car arguments no one used the "people will drive this car to make their penis fell larger" argument...common guys thats a classic anti-american-car argument how can you miss it??? LOL!

Jeez that thing is big and ugly. I can't believe they've been working on the Camaro for so long and this is what they came up with?

300hp out of a v6 engine would be great (especially considering the mustang stats...)
they could sell this to mainstream and reserve the v8s for those few performance guys and nuts still hoping gas will go down in price...

@ Cheap Car Lover
Yeah, the vents are for cooling the rear brakes. But, I can hardly imagine a factory Camaro with a V6 will manage to get so hot that it would need vents to cool the rear brakes. And what do you want to bet they are solid discs in the rear, anyway? The performance Camaros should at least get vented rears, or at least the option.
@ Euro-Trash
Um, no. My penis never 'fell larger'. Maybe you should see a urologist...........

If the mustang GT dosen't produce 300 hp, and discs are cheap now, and it it just provides that much more of a performence edge.
Also vented and/or sloted rotors are just a visual item. they don't cool off any faster than solid ones and they provide a better breaking point if the rotors crack. Ask any serious racer.
Besides I like the car including the four headlights and all. Besides if i can get V8 power out of a fuel saving V6, I'll take it any day.

Its actually not that large, if you've seen it at one of the many car shows its at. The rear vents are fake, but so are the mustang's. And both cars had it in the 60's as well. The headlights are ugly, but I know those aren't the production ones. We won't know what the final Camaro will look like until Sept. at the Brickyard. My brother has talked with an engineer and Chevy is saying its the best quality interior they've built. Period.
For the faux hood scoop, it will be functional on the V8s. It was actually an idea they had for the original Camaro in '67, but couldn't use it b/c durable materials were lacking. Ram Air does work to a small extent when you're cruising at 75 mph and suddenly go WOT. Since its passive, its nothing to brag about.
