The next-generation Acura NSX has been a long time coming. Originally it was believed that Acura was going to unveil the all-new NSX at the Tokyo Auto Show last fall. But due to an overwhelming amount of criticism of the Advanced Sports Car Concept (pictured here), upon which the NSX is based, designers were sent back to the drawing board.
Now Autocar has apparently received an inside tip that the next NSX is going to be unveiled at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show. The NSX is going to feature a new front end that is supposed to be very "Corvette-like", whatever that means.
In addition to the return of the NSX there are rumors that the NSX is going to eventually lead to more rear-wheel-drive vehicles from Acura, finally! This means that Acura might finally have what it takes to go head to head with BMW, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti. Supposedly in the works is a new larger sedan to go against the BMW 7-Series and an S-2000 based Acura sports car to go against the Mercedes SLK. Currently the rumor is that the new large sedan wont make it into dealerships until 2015. That seems like a really long time away...lets hope that is exaggerated.
The 2010/2011 NSX is going to feature a front-mounted 4.5L V10 engine with around 550 horsepower.

I love the Acura NSX but this design looks ugly.

Well it looks like it'll be a while before Acura gets back in the game, too bad really. I've been hoping they'd pull out something special with the rumored TSX Coupe, but it looks like I'll be getting a Genesis instead next year.

I think nthat the article is dead-on in saying that the lack of RWD is a thorn in Acura's high-end lineup. I hope that the speculation is true.

The NSX nameplate should be reserved for a mid-engined supercar. Something on par with the R8 would fit nicely.
A 550hp 4.5 liter v-10 sounds like one awesome engine. It'll have to redline at like 9k to get that power. I can't wait. It'll be like 2020 before I could afford a used one, but it'll be on the list.
I'm not opposed to Acura making a GTR competitor, just don't call it the NSX.

I love japanese cars, especially the Acura NSX but I find they should improve the design.
This car could compete with the nissan skyline gt-r or with the subaru or mitsubishi.

I must agree, this car should get its own name. NSX should stay mid-engined imo.

The NSX was never a Super Car, exotic sure but super car that's a reaching. They have always been under powered.
That concept does look like a vette though.

i really love the works designers did on this model. I don't know why it generated so bad comments about its look. Corvette is years or decades far behind the lines of what this NSX shows, I can't wait to see this (only) reliable super-car on Acuras Lots.

@Cheap Car Lover:
Why should the NSX nameplate be reserved for a mid-engine car? When it was developed it was supposed to represent the highest technology Honda had at the time. Honda had never made a mid-engine car before the NSX, but they thought that would be the best platform for their flagship. The NSX has also only went through one generation (I don't think a facelift in 2000 qualifies as a "new" car), it doesn't have a lineage following like the Corvette or Skyline GTR. Imagine the outcry if the next gen vette were mid-engine, people would say it doesn't follow the corvette formula. The NSX should be the top tier of technology honda has to offer, maybe the new FR arrangment outhandles the old chassis.
@RX-7 Guy:
It kinda depends on you definition of "Super Car" (please no wikipedia definitions, I don't care what some pimply-faced 14 year old thinks is a "super car" based off his extensive research from gran turismo). Remember, back in 89 the car was released with 260hp. That was 40hp more than a Corvette. A vette isn't usually called a supercar, but take a Ferrari 348. Of course we all know the "348 vs NSX" comparo (or at least we should), and we know which was concluded to be the best.
The term "Super car" is irrelevant though, since there are many homebuilt kit cars that can crunch Carrera GT in every aspect of performance.

@ Jason
Font-Rear out handle Mid-Rear...pass the pipe bozo.
Give it a rest. Any non-redneck knows a supercar is a low slung mid-engine exotic (Ferrari Enzo & F430, Lamborghini's, Audi R8, Veyron, Zonda, etc.) with a high-tech DOHC engine and near race quality suspension (not leaf springs). There's a reason a mid-engine layout is used in the fastest race cars, and I'm not talking about NASCAR in case you were confused.

@Noya:
Oh buddy, you don't know how low your self esteem is going to drop because of that comment.
Here's the deal, bozo, nowhere did I say "Font-Rear out handle Mid-Rear" because I don't really know what a "Font-Rear" is. Anyone capable enough to read a post will see that I said "maybe the new FR arrangment outhandles the old chassis".
Are you capable of understanding those words? Lemme break it down for you: "maybe the new FR" means [there is a chance that the new chassis for the NSX], and "outhandles the old chassis" means [is better than the coming-up-on 20 year old chassis the old NSX is sitting on]. Is that plain enough for you to understand? Here it is again: [Maybe new is better than old]
Can your comprehend it yet? How about this: [NEW > OLD]
There is no golden rule that says mid-engine cars are better sports cars than FR. This proven by... well... the 80's. Take the Fiero. Or a much better example are the Toyota compact triplets. I mean the AE86, the MR2, and the FX-16. To make things totally clear (I have to because you think I'm a NASCAR redneck, although I've only owned Mitsu Eclipse's, a Toyota Corolla, and an R6. Plus last year I campaigned an FC in ITS. Plus I'm Indian(no I won't bomb your house or take your job)), these cars shared the same engine, almost the same suspension, and very close gear ratio's. Anyways, the little Hachi consistently was proven to be a better stock racer than the MR2. Another surprising fact? The incoming AE92 turned out to be a better car in the twisties than AE86!?! Oh no, your preconceived conceptions are broken!
"But there has to be a reason all the big dollar sports cars use mid-engine designs?!?!" said Noya, the retard. Well take a gander at the Ferrari 599. Or Aston Martin Vanquish. Or MB SLR. See, I can list fast cars too.
Oh!!! but I said "gander", so that *must* mean I fit the redneck stereotype... even though I got a 31 on the MCATs back in February.
I hope you at least see things aren't always as clear cut as you think they are. Oh, and stereotyping is a form of racism.

Merely my opinion that NSX shouldn't be reused. I think automakers spoil nameplates when they reuse them just for the sake of using them the get publicity. When I hear NSX I think of a sweet mid engined Acura made a while ago, not ultimate Acura monkier. It's like Chevy slapping the SS badge on everything.
Your opinion makes sense too.
And, speaking generally, mid engined cars will outhandle front engined cars because of better weight distribution. Only a general statement though. The newest MR2 handles like garbage, so of course this doesn't always hold true. Don't get mad at me like you did Noya. : o )
Sorry I said supercar earlier. I guess I meant relatively high performance sports car.
