Chrysler is recalling all 2007-2008 Chrysler Sebrings and Dodge Avengers to fix an electrical defect.
Just in case any of you out there actually own one of these cars, the recall is to fix the unused connectors for the tire pressure monitoring system. The unused connectors can become corroded, which would result in a short. This could cause the car to not start, to stall once its moving or it could affect other electrical components of the car.
Dealers have been instructed to seal the unused connectors. Chrysler is going to officially notify owners at the end of the month.

I have to agree w/ Tim, they are much more better than VW on recalls.

Anyone actually dumb enough to buy a Chrysler product deserves whatever problems they get.
I'd rather have a KIA.

Compared to the GM cars, this is a pretty minor problem. My old Grand Am had wipers that wouldn't shut off, a dead right front headlight that no one could fix, FOUR power window motors go bad, dead turn signal switch, and so on... Asll as as 4 year old car. That sucks!!!! We will see what happens with these as time goes on if the recalls start piling up, but hopefully not. Dodge doesn't see the expense ;-).

Meh, not too bad. So somebody forgot to add "Seal unused connectors" to the assembly line's list of things to do. At least "Install drivers side airbag" and "Bolt down restraint systems" made the list............right?.........RIGHT?!

Right, let's support the economy by buying terrible American cars.
Yeah, no thanks.

Haha, thats the most ignorant comment I've read yet on TR.
A. If yanks could design a better car, people would buy it, so go buy a wha wha burger and some french cries. The new Caddies are a big step in the right direction.
B. Most Hondas are built right in the States to begin with.
C. Audi all the way. lol.

Hi, I'm an American and I'd just like to apologize to anyone around the world who's ever been tricked into buying an American car. I am truly humbled and embarrassed by my country's inability to produce a decent automobile. For now, I'd advise you to buy German or Japanese until we get our act together. It may take a few decades, sorry.

@ Al: I agree with letter C all the way.
I think that the new GM models are a great step in the right direction for American cars. However, all of you "American cars are crap" people have completely faulty logic. These types of recalls happen with all types of cars, though. Case in point:
"Honda is recalling Acura TL models from 2004 to 2008 so technicians can install new heat-resistant power steering hoses.
The hoses that came with the cars can crack and leak from high temperatures under the hood. If that happens, it could spark an engine fire."
Engine fire > not starting. So what exactly is your point with "people who buy Chrysler deserve what they get"? Nissan recalls, Ford recalls, Mercedes recalls. It's the same for all companies. Get off your high horse.

I think most honda and toyota are built in US, current domestic brand cars are junks compare to imports and I rarely see domestic cars in Asia, Africa or Europe, but import brands are everywhere throughout the world. Economy is getting worse, and we should blame stupid Bush for war and his incompetence, I will vote him and his farther as the worst presidents ever in the US.

Blame management for the sorry state of the domestic car industry. How can you expect workers to make a commitment to quality when they're just barely getting by on their wages? I just thank God my union has come up with a job action plan so I can still look forward to retiring on my pension at 50.

all 325 Sebrings sold. They might as well do home visits.
The other 200k Sebrings are still parked somewhere in Nevada.

My '98 Dodge Caravan still runs wonderfully with 214k miles. It went 70,000 miles before even needing a light bulb replaced, and to date the only problem I've had was the master brake cylinder going bad. It makes me wonder if it's more luck of the draw than manufacturer. After all, Honda's early 21st century Odysseys had their transmissions just up and die around 60,000 miles.

At least they recalled them. People seem to ignore the electrical problems of certain other brands because they are enamored with them, but if Chrysler fixes a problem, they're trash?
If you worked at a shop, you'd quickly realize American cars aren't the only ones with problems. Especially when the reliability of some of the most vaunted Japanese and German brands has fallen from what it was even 5 years ago. Meanwhile, reliability in many Korean cars has vastly improved, and some domestics have improved a bit too. Unfortunetely for the domestics, people will always find something to hate, even if it is reliable.

LOL! You are the problem buddy, not management.
Hey, at least when you retire at 50 you will have a good number of years to contemplate your destruction of the American auto industry. Enjoy.

You know, to all the fuckers who started the "America obsessed" bullshit.
WE are not the ones buying your shitty vehicles. WE are not the ones who stand behind Bush. WE are not the ones who show up at every rally and every pep-talk and chant "U-S-A, U-S-A" everytime something comes up.
YOU are the morons driving the terrible, POS trucks that get 10mpgs and make the roads less safe (they don't brake as well, they just crush anyone driving sensible vehicles). YOU are the ones who stand behind automobile companies that produce crap vehicles and employ morons like Bob Lutz. YOU are responsible for decades of repeated attempts at ruining any goodwill built towards America by your ancestors with blighted policy and arrogant ways.
We: kindly bash what should be bashed. You: make a total ass of yourself at all our parties. Fuck off.

@Monkeypox i love you
hondas are built in america but they are designed in japan where intellegent and responsible engeneers seem to have found there way into the automotive industry as a direct result of there intellegence and not who they know or what frat party they where at in college. our whoe system is flaued and there is nothing on the books for the future as long as we continue to repeat our mistakes from the past. forget about your stupid factory jobs being sent overseas and do everything you can to have your kids be able to suypport themselves whe you retire, if you retire...
how dose a CEO from a company theat is going to get a govenment bailout still make as much money as they do???

Americans make crappy cars because of the business models of the 50's, 60's, and 70's. At that time there was no competition and unions took so much money out of the companies for pensions and things like that, that when competition reared its ugly head, they couldn't continue to let people retire fully at 50, and still have enough money to pay for engineers and quality components. Japanese and German car companies didn't have to deal with this for years, and were able to streamline in such a way that they can now build cars in America with unions and still control quality. GM spends more for pensions and health care than they do for steel. I doubt that Toyota or BMW have this problem.

Oh, thank goodness. It's just a minor electrical issue. Good news for the owners.
I thought they were being recalled because they were ugly and looked like big Matchbox cars.
Every manufacturer who ever built a car has built crap and cream at some point, or even the same time. We know what is killing Detroit, no need to hash that to death either.
Laugh all you want about crap cars, then mention Hyundai. Safe to say we all paved the road with Hyundai jokes since the Excel came out in the mid 80's.
Who's laughing now ? They are getting some scary good reviews here in the states this year. No doubt Honda and Toyota are issuing damage control as well.

Who else but Chrysler would hire Robert Nardelli, the ex-GM guy who screwed up Home Depot and left with a $210 million severance package, as their new CEO? Now I won't buy a Chrysler out of principle and not just because they keep churning out crappy American cars.
