BMW M1 Hommage Concept Unveiled at the Concorsa d’Eleganza Villa d’Este

bmw_m1_concept_2.jpg
BMW unveiled the M1 Hommage Concept this weekend at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este. The concept pays tribute to the original M1, which just had its thirtieth birthday.

The overall design of the M1 Hommage draws inspiration from the original M1 and BMW Turbo Concept. The M1 Hommage concept is basically a modern day example of the original mid-engined M1.

BMW has yet to release any photos of the interior or of the car on the move. The concept is basically a design exercise and it is not known if BMW has any plans of building another mid-engined supercar.

Alex:

Yuck, looks like it should have stayed in the 80's.

Alex Greene:

That is one ugly beast! :)

Kings:

Definetly not ugly. BUT A BEAST NONE THE LESS

brad:

Hehe. Even the wheels have vents.

SEALBoy:

The screwed up the front...

hater:

BUICK!!!

Noya:

Are those even real pics OR are they composites?

Coolio Hunt:

I read it in car mag web. It doesn't tell if powered with a V8 or V12. It does look like it powered anything less the a V8. Most likely powered V12. It a great looking BMW supercar & most likely a 2 seater.

ameno:

Looks like Predator from the front...the fangs, and a viper in the back...But nice, something different

Cheap Car Lover:

I don't think it does the original M1 justice. I'm glad this is just a computer rendering job that way they can fix it before any mock up are made.

Bmw really should make another mid engined supercar. The R8 needs better competition. But the R8 (less the silly panels on the sides) is an attractive car. Even Bangle could do a better job than this. Give it the M3's engine and make it as lightweight as possible.

waldorf and statler:

just as ugly as the black photoshopped one

Totenglocke:

Considering what the original looked like, they did a great job making it look modern and new. Except the wheels....those are just ugly.

Luke:

Seriously did some one drop a shipping container onto this car. It looks so low and flat from the front on view.

So i guess you have to lie down in it then???

Chances are hopefully BMW will put their v10 in this with a bit more muscle, say supercharged?

Nick:

The wheels need work, but I think it's a fitting tribute. I would never buy one, but if one flew past me on the freeway, I would probably go half-mast.

Dave K:

If BMW and Lamborghini had a love child... this would be the result.

Can't say it's my style (looks really BIG... which usually means HEAVY), but it would definitely turn heads if you saw it flying down the autobahn.

Sphere:

It looks heavy, like it would need 600 hp to compete against the 450hp competition.

Worse, the wheels look even heavier. It looks like those 1 piece of cheap 20"-22" chrome-steel whatever that streesses the rotors and completely wreck the handling of the car with the added unsprung weight.

Subpra:

Going back to the future; like everything else because we are simply running out of creativity.

gm0n3y:

IMO, the side profile looks surprisingly good. That being said, the front, rear and wheels are awful.

WVO:

I think I had a HotWheels that looked like that.

WVO:

Hey, I wonder what the interior is like? Maybe a Challenger? Maybe a Lexus? Gosh this car looks so European :)

Turkle:

The way the metal roof runs down and "sits" on top of the back of the car reminds me of a sad comb-over by a balding man in denial. They should call this the M1 Propecia and get some retired ex-80's actor to promote it at the next few car shows.

Amy:

I think it looks quite nice. Especially sitting in front of George Clooney's house which is probably one of the only places it will ever see the light of day, if it in fact does come about. I think you guys with the Autobahn comments are the only ones who have it quite right. Like it or not, you will notice if it drives by.

Rich:

Is that idiot Chris Bangle leaving BMW? Could this be Chris Bangle's final FU to BMW? The ONLY car Bangle did right was his first; the Z3. Can you really say these cars are beautiful? Z4 (flame surfacing. what the hell is that?), 7 series, 6 series, X3? The 3 and 5 and X5 are OK, but the BMW style that was so beautiful and almost timeless has been destroyed. Thanks, Bangle. I'll buy a Benz instead.

Kell:

If I were to spend 100K+ on a car it had better be beautiful.

joshua jamison:

Seriously I really do love all bmw's the new and the old but these are just ugly. I would only drive on if I got it for free or if I could buy a m3 with the money I got from selling it. Sorry im just being real.
