Hyundai took the wraps off of its Genesis luxury sedan this January at the Detroit Auto Show, but now Hyundai execs are stating that Europe will not get the new sedan.
Due to the poor performance of Lexus in the European market, Hyundai has decided to not sell its luxury sedan there. "We looked at Lexus’ track record in Europe," said Hyundai spokesman Oles Gadacz. Lexus only sold just over 40,000 vehicles in Europe and Turkey last year.
In addition to Lexus' less than noteworthy sales, Europe's touch emissions standards were another reason for not offering the sedan. The 4.6L V8 Genesis is not exactly a "green" vehicle.
The Genesis is going to go on sale in the US, Korea and China by this summer. In Europe, Hyundai is going to focus on small and lower medium sized cars.

That's a pretty sleek looking car IMO. I almost with the Coupe looked more like this one. Might have to trade the Wife's Sonata in for one when they come out...

It's half the price of the 5 series... with a comparable sense of luxury (if not handling)... so it will sell...

Good decision by Hyundai. Europeans love little bitty cars so they can afford to pay their gas taxes. This wouldn't sell well.
The car looks good, the stats look good, and the price looks fantastic. Apart from having to deal with incompetent twits at the Hyundai dealership, it's got a thumbs up from me.

Wow, a decent car that is coming to the US and NOT Europe? Is this bizzaro world or what? Also, I though that Turkey was in Europe.

@dennisil
Nah, we in Europe are just not used to communist style subsidies for inefficient behavior like you have in the states and in China ;)
We tend to let things that make no sense become too expensive and have the more sensible alternatives gain traction and market acceptance.
The 3 thousand tonn choppy ride SUVs that kill their passengers with rolling over and guzzle gas at rate of half a million Iraqi's a year aren't our style :)
But its nice to see lots of reasoning proliferating on your side of the Ocean lately. You're OK and you're kinda getting better and better over the past years again.
As your nice cousins we saw that you were about to make a blunder with almost electing your current president 8 years ago and kinda tried to tell you but its not polite to interfere and besides, sometimes you need to learn from your own mistakes right? ;)
As far as oral hygiene is concerned I think a few of your trailer parks have us all beaten :P
To all you smart and sensible US friends: No pun intended, just needed to slap your less brain endowed buddies around a bit.
It is a nice car for a Hyundai though. Lexus mainly fails because its more hype than anything else. The difference between good diesels in Europe and hybrids isn't there so extra cost isn't acceptable to consumers here. + no trunk space + suck ass marketing from Lexus Europe.

It's funny, people in the US couldn't care less about who is elected president in any European countries. Why do you all care about our politics?
Communist style subsidies for SUV's? I don't quite understand. How does your government taxing you $4 a gallon on gasoline make your country further to the right on the political spectrum? Funky tax laws intended to change a citizen's behavior are socialist(communist), not capitalist. We're privy to a free market, where gas prices are set by consumption, not the government.

USA Horay,
you don't cate about our presidents because they don't interfere in your stuff while CIA and your presidents put their nose and claws everywhere around the world. So its why people around the world tend to want you to at least make sensible decisions. When US is a positive factor in global events its more than welcome. But during this administration you lost a lot of the shine and trust around the world.
Don't kill the messenger. Problems need to be solved at their source. Since no one can be worse at it thatn your current administration (and 70% of US folks seem to agree according to polls) you're on your way up again. You can only go up from the bottom.
Don't think you have not been driving for cheaper than you should because of the markets. It was governmental policy to keep you quiet and happy. You also get loans, mortgages,.. to spend way beyond your means but at a certain point that simply falls apart.
From record sufficit, extreme global support and soft power, moral highground,.. you were stripped of all of that in 8 years. We're not happy about it overseas either and want you to bounce back and you will.
Because your government has been subsidizing (and that can be done in obvious and less obvious ways) your car industry has been sleeping and almost died off recently, your oil company get record tax breaks while reaping record profits which don't go into any research but simply to old fat guys wallets,..
You deserver better and we deserve better. But as long as you don't understand that you were being payed off by low gas prices and allowed to be inefficient, you won't be able to participate effectively in the process of making things better.
And all is fine if you think you can use your money as you please and drive gas guzzlers. Thats not the problem. But there might be a moral problem when someone is killing people overseas to try to preserve that perverse luxury for you. That I don't agree with no matter how much I support private property and every one's private free choice in how to spend their money.
And I'm not the enemy. Those that feed you bullshit and smokescreens are. 70% of your countrymen agree with this, don't forget. Some of the rest may only have a hard time admitting to themselves it is how it is.
Cheers!

1. If you're falsifying data, you're a moron.
2. 81% of Americans agree that their country is headed in the wrong direction.
3. You made some racial remarks. I find them retarded. You live in a multiethnic world. Get used to the fact that you will be seeing a lot more darker, Asian and other people in the future which is OK. Only scared little pussies are all freaked out about any change.
4. I'm having a great weekend.

I bought a 2007 Hyundai Elentra less than a year ago. I have no complaints about the car; it is a good piece of engineering. It was with the Hyundai dealer that I have serious issues with; I will never ever buy a Hyundai car, again because of their dealers. They are the most dishonest scum on the earth.

"81% of Americans agree that their country is headed in the wrong direction."
Could it be because of a biased media?
The employment rate today, even with all the job loses, is better than at anytime under Clinton. FACT!!
A recession is technically two consecutive quarters of negative growth; we have not had even one quarter of negative growth yet. FACT!!!
In the 2000 election year, when the economy was ACTUALLY in a recession, most Americans were not aware of it. FACT!!!
This economy downturn is being made worse by a biased media, driving consumer confidence low; making it worse than it actually should be.

I kind of agree with the poster who made comments about the Hyundai dealerships but if you search around, you can find good ones. At least for me living in Southern California, there are many Hyundai dealer choices so it wasn't too difficult for me to find a dealer that I "clicked" with and formed a good relationship.

Saw one on & off freeway near San Jose the other day. No logo or model badge on it. Not bad looking, with front looks like Acura and rear looks like the previous I30.

i agree with you. there is a large gap between the educated and the uneducated in america. "most" people from the central plain and the south are non high school graduate. people from the west and the north east has better education. less educated people usually make decision base on their emotion and this is how bush won the white house. he played on their fear of 911 and gay unions. i hope things will change for the better. but funny how ironly that the poor, the un-educated, usually the first casualty when the economy go south, when gas and food price sky rocketed, yet the poor never consider voting base on the issues.
btw, i'm from san jose california

It is amazing how uneducated hillbillies in Texas have the second largest GDP in the country, and 6 of the top ten states by GDP went to Bush; Gee education is overrated as it has nothing to do with economic progress (read that as sarcasm)
This is also might help you understand the economic layout of USA better.
