Photos and some info on VW's new Golf TDI Hybrid Concept have leaked onto the internet a few days before its official unveiling in Geneva.

The Golf TDI Hybrid Concept is powered by a 3-cylinder diesel engine which is mated to a 27 horsepower electric motor and a 7-speed DSG transmission. The powertrain achieves 69mpg (3.4l/100km) in the European cycle.

The Concept is capable of driving on electric power, diesel power or a combination of both. There is a handy indash energy monitor like the Prius and the Concept also uses start/stop technology as well as regenerative braking technology.

Visually the Concept features a revised grille, lowered suspension and low-rolling-resistance tires.

Tony:

Sounds promising. Will we get it here in the US?

Noya:

I'm still waiting for a turbo diesel hybrid, but this is getting close.

rene:

@Noya,
the 'T' in TDI stands for Turbo, not for 'three' cylinders

Totenglocke:

@Rene

I think he was simply referring to the fact that this is just a concept car and not anything that's been approved for production.

tom:

Only if the car companies would learn that there are some americans that want a diesel because of the high MPG and power.
i still think most are afraid no one will buy them if they make them.
i just wish they would try and see how many they can sell now with the HIGH gas prices

Totenglocke:

True Tom, plus for the long term, biodiesel is much more practical (and cheaper to produce) than ethanol.

this car is sexy......ooooohhh damm!!!
is they had this car in the turbo diesel version
it will be better.....awd ...ok

Sabby:

Why a Hybrid? I'd rather buy one that wasn't a Hybrid, and save a lot of $$$, not to mention weight and complexity.
