Nissan has released four teaser images of its all-new 2009 Nissan Maxima that is going to be officially unveiled next week at the New York Auto Show.
These photos show a few details of hopefully a much sportier Maxima. Note the return of the the 4DSC sticker that recalls the Maxima's of the late 1980's - 1990's, when it was referred to as a "4-Door Sports Car."
Stay tuned for the live shots from the show next week.

Looks to me like it will sport the 7 series like rear end that some cars are using now. Overall I get the feeling this will be a very classy new Maxima.

i like the window and it is good to see that it now has 4DSC.
The color is also very nice.
Can this site, in future, not support these nonsensical propagandas and ask for proper photo/stories or nothing

This is only going to be an appearance upgrade. It will use the same chassis as the current generation Maxima, and probably the same engine choices as well. Expect the same boring sub-par FWD front heavy performance as the current Maxima. Nissan is going to destroy the reputation the "4DSC" moniker earned earlier on...

The car needs RWD and a balanced chasis to really be a 4DSC... but then it'd eat into the G35's current market.

Rene: Duh! Nissan's lame "4DSC" means "four door sports car".
Nissan, buy a dictionary. Parts of the "sports car" defintion include: small, low center of gravity, seats 2.
I had a 2003 Maxima. It was a fun car, good power, absolutely horrible torque steer. It was fun to screw around and smoke the front tires, but was terrible in the rain. Add that with Nissan's infamous aggressive throttle tip-in, and you would always spin the tires in the rain. Even with traction control.
From these pics, looks like it is trying too hard to be a BMW (Hofmesiter kink) or E class (rear end).

I don't understand the complaints here. Its competition is the Accord and Camry. This car smokes both of them in pretty much all categories (and badly in most of them). The Maxima is an awesome car for what it is. Fully decked out, it is comparable to the Acura TL, which costs quite a bit more.
If you want RWD, then go for the G35.

"It will use the same chassis as the current generation Maxima, and probably the same engine choices as well."
D'oh! Will they at least bring the 3.5L in the Maxima up to par with the 3.5L in the Altima this time?

Yeah except it's a little pricey to compete with the Accord and Camry. Acura TL? Sure, but I always felt that was a little overpriced. In other words, there's nothing wrong with the Maxima, but its really caught in the middle with its brothers the Altima and the G35, and that doesn't count competition from other auto makers.
So if Jason is right and they don't make additional changes, I see the Altima/Accord being a better buy. If you like a bigger more powerful (and RWD) vehicle, a G35 or G8 GT would be a good option too. On the other hand if you jazz it up and make it look pretty, I'm sure plenty of people will buy it regardless of whether it lives up to the 4DSC name.

@gm0n3y:
It's competition is also going to be the revised TSX and Mazdaspeed6. The MSRP for the Maxima places it in the $30k range, which coincides with the BMW 3-series, Cadillac CTS, and perhaps most importantly the Lexus IS250. All of these cars are proven sports sedans, and some are icons of performance. Keep in mind, the lowest priced 3-series manual is priced within a few hundred dollars of the Maxima, and the IS250 6-speed is available for less. The TSX is most likely the current best handling FWD sedan, and the Mazdaspeed 6 is turbocharged(~280hp), AWD, and has a 6-speed manual. The lowest priced Maxima is still over $28k.

IMO, a pretty nice car as before, but overpriced compared to it's competition. "4DSC" doesn't fool the car guys, it's still a FWD car. For around 30-32K I'll take the well-equipped RWD Lexus IS250 and enjoy the better gas mileage and the extra panties. The BMW 3-series will be stripped out at this price range, if you can get it at all.

What the hell is wrong with you people? Have you guys taken the time out to get the specs on the new maxima? I currently own an '04 and love it to death and the only replacement will be another maxima. The platform is the new D platform designed to reduce understeer which is currently used on the new altima and murano. If you guys want a rear wheel drive go buy a freaking G35 or the M series. With the 18" 245s that is on the current maxima the power goes down the road instead of spinning on the pavement. It's bang for the buck go try to get an Acura for that money or you can choose to get the domestic pieces of crap. The car looks good and seems like its gonna drive damn good too.
