brad:

WTF is with all these car companies designing lights that taper off as if the designers hand got knocked when he was drawing it. Cheapens the overall look of the car.

o:

yuk good thing that thing is stuck in america thatr is fugly il love swept back lights but those things are ridiculous

PT:

this car is pretty nice looking. It has resemblence of the old Q45 in the front fascia. I guess Maxima is back on the market once again.

SEALBoy:

Lose the mutated appendages on the front lights, and you have a nice car.

Mike:

Looks like the design that came in 2nd in voting when they updated the G35.

joebe:

What another ugly looking Maxima
Don't they know how to design nice looking cars

Cheap Car Lover:

The interior looks awesome. The exterior looks like complete garbage. I thought Maxima's were supposed to be exciting. It looks like it's trying too hard. The headlights pretty much ruin the entire car.

coolguy:

Ugly headlights and taillights aside, this thing reminds me of the Camry (which is not a good thing).

Alex:

I think this will be a good looking car. I see new ideas, new lines, new design. It will be a head turner. For all who are claiming that this car is ugly, please, can you tell us a perfect car, so we could compare?

AutoBot:

I'll withhold final judgement until I see in the car in person, but my first impression is that it has too many unusual curves and shapes.

What I'm really curious about is whether or not it'll be worthy for the "Four Door Sports Car" motto. The last generation had power, but not much control. Torque-steer was the rule of thumb with these cars.

wookie62:

They will sell every one they can make. Good thing they design cars for people that buy them and not people that come up with witty things to say about them.

Mazda6 Guy:

The back profile (when looking at it from the front) seems to be GT-R inspired, but the taillights seem to be Civic coupe inspired.

I would say this car does not look good. The "short" hood design only helps to make the uneven panel gaps more visible, and it looks like a over styled Hyundai.

The interior, though of apparently of high quality materials is too "dark" and bland. I can already see the beatings this car will take from honda/bmw loving magazines like Car & Driver.

So Nissan better make sure this car kicks you in the ass and makes you like it because otherwise it will fail.

h.pyl0r1:

All you HATERS! How about comparing this newly designed Maxima to all of the previous body styles. There's not one sane person who couldn't say that this is the most sophisticated, sexiest & sportiest looking Maxima yet. I wonder what the HATER's drive. Must be something exotic to HATE that hard on the newly designed Maxima. I'm not even a Maxima fan but I have to at least give credit where and when it's due. This is by far the best looking Maxima so far in my opinion. I'll be interested to see how the interior fit n finish is.

h.pyl0r1:

All this coming from people who drive Mazda 6's? Give me a freak'n break. I bet the rest of you drive Subaru's and Mitsubishi's. Give me a freak'n knife so I can stab myself in the neck before all the HATING kills me!!! WOW!!!!!

If we purchased cars in a vacuum, then I'd have to completely agree with you, h.pyl0r1. Most of this new Maxima is far nicer than the previous models.

However, a set model of car doesn't exist in a vacuum. It must compete with every other car out there, both in its market segment as well as outside of it.

I think the lower appendages on the headlamps ruin an otherwise clean look. Perhaps seeing the car in person would be enough to change my perception.

Gary:

Looks a bit better than the current portly Maxima and dare I say looks pretty good IMO. Has a bit more sporty look to it now.

wayne gretzky:

Aston Martin's are perfect cars. Visually... They're a little too much money!

I think some people like certain cars just because they look *new*. I enjoy timeless designs, which are generally pretty traditional. I find the current maxima, and the one from the mid 90's to be the best looking maximas. They're a bit more traditional. This is sort of outlandish. The hodd is too cury and I hate the headlights.

I don't drive a 30k car, so of course this car is better (my car was less than 2k). Should my opinion not matter because I pay cash and don't choose to spend my money on depreciable assets?

Krazeee:

I like it. Unique lights. Something I would expect to see on a Italian Sports car actually. I'll probably get flamed for this, but owell. I like the haunches too. Reminds me of the Maserati

Darmok:

Ok, so who wants to talk about how ugly American cars are now? Clearly Americans are not the only ones to make ugly cars.

Tony:

What is wrong with half of you people? These are opinions.. Read: Opinions!!!

If someone doesn't like it, that is their OPINION. Stop telling people they are wrong because they don't agree with you. Who cares what other people drive?!? What does it matter what the car is being compared to? If someone finds it distasteful, then so be it. Get over it - not everyone will like what you like.

On that note, I think that the car looks like a Nissan version of a Buick - this is NOT what I expected from their next-gen 4DSC. The interior is nice, though. Reminds me of the GT-R.. too bad the exterior screams "Watch out! I'm going 10 miles under!"

DatMan:

The lines of this Maxima make it look quite sporty. Forget the details, like lights and grills, and just look at the lines of the car. Nice design, IMO. The other details will have people that either love'em or hate'em... probably no middle ground...

The only complaint I have is that the interior belongs on an INFINITI... the steering wheel is exactly the same as in the 09 FX and the NAV console is exactly out of an INFINITI. If NISSAN continues on this path, they'll kill sales of the INFINITI brand name as there will be nothing to really differentiate it as an "elite" luxury vehicle. The I30 was killed off to help INFINITI distance itself from NISSAN... so why'd they go and do this?

squareslinky:

I have owned 5 Maxima's. I do not own one now. I would not buy that car. The current body style is better looking. The inside is very nice.

Allen:

I like it, the intent was to draw you away from the headlights actually, and to do that they had to give them that look. The lines go down, hence eyes away from headlights.

Tony:

I think the new altimas have more of a 4DSC look, unfortunately.

Nissan promised to "reinvent" this type of car. Hopefully the suspension and drivetrain pay off.. Nissan has the resources, for crying out loud.

JROC:

I think the 2007 model looks way better, The current nissans look great

Saheed:

Looks like a cross-breed between Infinity and a Suzuki. In other words, it just looks plain FUGLY!!! Also, the back reminds me of the Toyota Yaris; Don't you guys agree with me???
anyway, the interior is nice.

Travis:

I do not like the following.

The Very squared off Front Grille and lower intake do not match the way the rest of the car is curved.

The Front headlights are almost as bad as the ones on the new Murano, The way they have part of the front fender pushing into the shape looks, well wrong, and they seem kind of truckish.

The fact that the tail lights, rear fenders, and rear bumper come together in a mishmash of wide gaps that look like poorly forced together puzzle pieces, I actually like the tail lights, but they don't seem to fit the shape of the rest of the rear, like they were changed at the last moment, and just sort of forced into place.

The High creases on the hood leading into the A-pillar.

The way they do a step up from the rear fender to the trunk deck. It looked ugly when BMW did it a few years ago, it looks ugly now.

The Interior looks like a pretty good effort, though I am not that fond of the instrument cluster.

Overall it feels like they tried to style this to resemble the GT-R, and from a distance it dosn't look to awfully, but the details seem poorly sorted out, and drag the car down into ugly territory.

Tom:

Ugh, it's everything I hate about the new Accord all over again.

SteelCity1981:

Another ugly new Nissan. Those headlights are really ugly looking.

Sabby:

Altima > Maxima

2cents:

This is much nicer styling than the current design. It's got distinctive flowing lines & curves. It'll stand out from all the other cars. If I were in the market now, the new Maxima would be on my list.

Seems like the Altima is the new Maxmia, and the Maxima is the new affordable Infinity. I've owned 2 maximas, and my first impression on these pictures was, well, confusion. It wasn't what I expected. However, I'm witholding solid opinion until I hear the drivetrain and pricing specs. And I'm witholding final opinion until I actually drive one.

Blackfunk:

As someone who drives a 15K more expensive Infiniti, I am not amused at the fact that the not insubstantial cost difference does not get me a 15K nicer interior. Nissan, I AM NOT AMUSED.

Must say it does look very much like a Camry with the rear lights with the way they meet the rear bumper.

Luka:

I think Nissan is doing the best among all American and Japanese cars. They have amazing line-up from sports to suv, and truck. Way to go Nissan....

gm0n3y:

I love the interior and the back end. The front end is alright. How can there be so much hate for a car solely based on a small piece of the headlights? You people are crazy, its a nice car.

mojo:

looks like a fat lady (old maxima) trying to fit into a shoe three sizes too small (skyline gt-r) and insisting that the designer (the monkey that designed the gt-r) make it fit AND look good.

hagans:

I actually think this is the best looking Maxima design since my parents bought the "fine as wine" loaded Maxima back in 1986. It was the one that EVERYONE wished they owned. I think this new design lightens the car up and presents a sexier/cutting edge image for both Nissan and the venerable Maxima nameplate. This is why we love Nissan over the boring looks of Honda and Toyota.

The funny thing is the interior is dated looking to me. Dark and gloomy with all that black leather, dark wood, orange back-lit instrument panel. I drive an Infiniti G35 and have grey on black interior with brushed aluminum accents. This kind of crispness is what the interior of this new seeds to be a true success.

My very humble opinion.

Jettto:

horrible exterior desing!!!!!!!! just ugly!
