2010 Chevy Camaro Caught in Black...Does it Look Better than in White?

camaro_black_2.jpg
We've seen several spy photos of the 2010 Chevy Camaro in white, but now we have our first shots of the car in black.

Camaro5 forum member Corey R. has posted a batch of photos of the upcoming car. Engineers let him take photos of the exterior, but not the interior. Although you can see part of the dash in one of the shots.

Tim:

Looks nice, but looks a little too much like a Vette (tail lights and the little scoop on the front).

Reggie:

It looks like ass in any color, look at it, ugh. Someone fell asleep at the wheel.

The Hedon:

Reggie looks like ass.

SEALBoy:

Not bad, but I still think it looks chunky compared to the concept.

Sphere:

Looks fat. By 2010 people will be already tired of it.

Vlad:

Looks good in yellow - as in after I piss all over it yellow

It looks either in white or black. It would be cool with a flex fuel system. Cool and Green would be a great combo. :)

dennisil:

@The Hedon, you are fat in the ass like this stupid car

Crutch:

The car kinda looks like an Aston Martin crossed with a Corvette. Except for the grill, I really don't see too many styling cues that remind me of the older camaro.

Dan:

being completely unbiased about what car it is, going on looks alone, it actually looks better in black.

longdxcommuter:

I like the front and the front 3/4 views. Side profile is appropriately proportioned. I guess my only complaint is the rear view.

W00D:

Is that a towing package that is installed on it or some testing equip that we normally dont see?

John:

Give me about 400hp at the right price and I can overlook the looks

Tommy Boy:

Why didn't they make this the new KITT?.

All so, Reggie, Sphere, Vlad and, dennisil

This thing can run circles around anything you guys got.

Tommy Boy:

Oh yeah, this car looks WAY better in black.

Cheap Car Lover:

It's kind of annoying that we have to put up with concept cars on the road for 5 year before we get to see it in production. I'm definitely not going to care by the time it hits consumers. By the time it gets here it'll be time for a new model already.

I'm definitely happy that they're making a RWD performance coupe thats not the vette again. I sure hope it'll be in a good price range. G8 territory or (hopefully) less and I'll buy one.

I actually like it more in white. It looks much more polished. If they took away the chrome trim around the tailights and gave it some real headlights I might be more interested.

longdxcommuter:

@Cheap Car lover:
I agree with you completely. I couldn't quite place why the car appealed to me more in White than Black (usually any car looks better in black IMO). But you are right, the crome rings around the tail lights around the taillights just do not look right. The tailights look more intergrated in the white prototype.

o:

just so long as it comes to oz and it has better headlights and interior and sells for under 50k ill buy one

Andy:

It looks better in yellow with black stripes :p

That's not the final headlight configuration, is it? Those are ugly, the concept was much better.

SteelCity1981:

I love it. The black version looks freakin sweet!

DrFruit:

Looks like three different cars, depending on which angle you look at it. The back end looks like it wants to be kicked, or rear-ended by a real car.

RX-7 Guy:

This car is pretty true to the concept the changes I see are the headlights, marker lamps, mirrors and the B pillar. The roof is a little higher otherwise not much different.

I have to agree the concept headlights looked better but the production design offer better lighting performance. Paint mine like the one from the movie and drop in an LS7 please.

@Crutch:
This car is a throw back to the 69' Camaro how can you not see the likeness. Front, check, profile, check, rear, check, what are you missing.

unclesharkey:

Enough with all this horse power Sh@t!!!!!!!!

Gas is heading for 4 bucks a gallon! Give me a freaking car that gets 100 mpg now that would be cool!

This care looks like Sh@t!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wayne gretzky:

Where are the liberal GM/American-car haters?

I want to argue with some:

"Another big engine to suck down the gas."

"I'd like it if it were from Japan, but since it's a GM I hate it!"

"GM just doesn't get it, no one want's RWD performance anymore. People want Toyota's because they're economical and good for the environment, get a clue GM!"

"We're running out of oil and another American-made POS hits the street to guzzle the last little bit we have."

"It will suck because it's made by GM"

"Slap a diesel hybrid drivetrain in it and I might get one, as is it's just too inefficient. My minimum is 48mpg."

"This car and all the other gas hogs are president Bush's fault. We're all going to die under a glacial overflow because the oil-rich republicans are in bed with the american car makers to produce these horrendous cars."

"The pope said polluting is a sin, so if I drive a prius I'll be sinning less than someone who drives this car. You're all super-sinners for loving your inefficient greenhouse gas belching devil machines!"

Big on the fun guys!

wayne gretzky:

I spoke too soon! Hey unclesharkey, go f**k yourself!

Your momma:

waaah waaah, have another cry girls.... typical horsesh'it comments spewed all the way down the page with pathetic biased non-founded craptastic opinions... pfffft this car looks like sex. *FACT* - *ANYONE* who denies that is only doing so as yet another one of their many thousands of attempts through their pointless almost non-existant lifestyle to make themselves feel better because they know they'll *NEVER* in a million years end up being proud of anything they own, why? because they're low life shit kickers who will never amount to anything, can't pull in a decent wage to afford anything half decent; yet that is a direct cause of their own doing...

The easiest thing is to bash something, as then it makes you feel better about your cheap shit you're surrounded by; rather than taking initiative to look at yourselves in the mirror and DO something about your weak pityful outlook on life.. you bitter morons.

Alexvrb:

I'm with RX-7 Guy here.

I'll also say that I think overall it looks better in black, but it may look better still in orange or red.

Travis:

Blegh, Both the Mustang and the Challenger look great and GM comes up with this. I dont like the front end, I think the rear end looks down right terrible, the side profile is about the only thing that is close to right, though the cheap looking and likely fake vents on the rear fender manage to mess that up a bit as well. On the bright side for GM the look well positioned to win the HP/$ portion of this war. And it wont be hard to do the interior better than the Ford or the Dodge either, still they are coming last to the party with a car that could have and should have been so much more than it is.

Mike M:

Unfortunately, the wheels and the pictures themselves make the car look too tall. I loved the concept and "Bumblebee" but as many have mentioned Chevy has taken too long to bring this to market and I see the Camaro only alive for a few years. I'm no tree-hugger but, realistically, unless gas prices drop, this will only cater to a select few. With the gap between rich and poor right now, though...those few are not going to be buying a Mustang, Camaro, or Challenger as their toy but something with more status and beauty. Also, GM (and other American makers) aren't doing well enough right now to produce cars like this...they won't make enough money. I hate to be the pessimist here but this car is changed too much from the concept (in a bad way) and is coming at the worst time possible...poor American economy.

PornKing:

Looks hot, but how the hell are you supposed to see out of it with those tiny-ass windows?

RETNIAP:

And the Petrol is going UP and UP and UP

Bill:

Good car for 40 years ago. Goodbye GM.

SVT:

Ahhh the nerdy whining of average married men whose wives won't let them buy anything but the pussiest, safest, alternative fuel-hybrid-diesel minivan made-in-japan crap and are bitching out of pure frustration at anything that is built for fun rather than transportation of whatever worthless crap they're hauling (including your spoiled snot-nosed kids).
Grow up and get over yourself. Enjoy these milestones in performance, these speed demons where only math relevant is the direct ratio between the gas pedal pressed and the width of a smile. Multiply by 2 every time you overtake a minivan. And if $4 a gallonn is bugging you, ask Fred Flintstone to lend you his car.

As for the environment? Fcuk it. While you're trying to get every car to 100mpg, maybe you should go remind Chinese to stop multiplying, Bolivians to stop cutting their rain forest and Bush to stop drilling Alaska. This planet is going to hell, we might as well enjoy it...

btw, does this thing have independent rear suspension?

RX-7 Guy:

@SVT

As of now yes.

D:

You do not buy these cars for the gas mileage. Just like all those idiot punks putting fart cans, chips, CAIs, turbos, SCs are not doing it to save on gas.

They are all hypocrits if they even chime in this forum.

There is a market for semi-retro vehicles that have a hint of old and new. Some hit the mark and others miss it due to poplular tastes.

The new Mustang body and classes are just awesome, the Tbird sucked. I like the New Camero, and the new Dodge.

All cars are personal taste, there are a bunch of popular cars that I do not like, but god forbid I flame them!

I do not personally thing any auto maker is doing things correctly at the moment. ALL cars need to have the power to weight ratios worked on, they need to be lighter, and the engines need to use less fuel at the present time. There is absolutly no reason we should not have 90HP 1250lbs vehicles on the road today which would not only have tremendous MPG but the performance would still be acceptable due to the inherent ratios.

WS:

I'll have to agree with Mike M. This Camaro is a great car, but it's at least 5 years too late to the market. If this car had come out as an immediate successor to the old Camaro, GM could have made some serious cash. As it is, the Camaro and Challenger V8s will at best be niche products, and will be discontinued as soon as GM and Chrysler make their money back. GM's waffling, over-cautiousness, and inability to just produce a product that will appeal to the masses in a reasonable amount of time has hobbled them severely. I think Lutz has somewhat reduced the old "design by committee" mentality that has produced such absolute crap as the Aztek, but they are still too slow to the market.

Todd:

So many people whining about fuel economy, do you actually have any experience with an LSX based vehicle? Corvettes and Camaros/Firebirds from 98 on up with V8's all get very reasonable real world gas mileage. 25-27+ highway and ~20-22 mixed, even with autos.

Yes, if you flog them you can get down in the 16-18 range, but you can get under 20mpg from just about anything if you drive it like you stole it, boring 4 and 6 cylinder stuff alike.

You can say it looks fat. And it'll probably be too heavy. I have my doubts they'll price the good ones low enough, and the jury is still out about the interior.

But using MPG as a scapegoat is pretty silly.

Ptooooey:

A few more flushes like this, and GM will disappear down the hole. Makes me think of William Shatner, it's so fat. And definitely styled for the adolescent -- no sophistication or refinement in those lines. It's got paunchy, overweight, "look at me I'm dumb" written all over it, and about as sexy as 2-qt silicone implants.

Of course, it's perfection on wheels for those with the above preferences....

Mike M:

Not everyone is using MPG as a scapegoat to hate the car...as I somewhat alluded to earlier. I love fast cars, and am all about speed and performance as the next guy. Higher horsepower, torque, quick acceleration, and good handling are every guy's dream. I am also realistic though...and I'm not a tree-hugger, family man, or hard-core import guy as the haters seem to portray. I just hate how people post on here with narrow-mindedness. For the guy who said we should blame the Chinese for population. No offense but we might have half the problems we have if we were much less populated (jobs, schools, gas prices, traffic, crime, etc.) too. All we've done for the last 30 years is piss away our manufacturing jobs and exchange them for lazy service jobs...some simply made up so people actually have a job. When "lavish" lifestyles, compared to less lazy countries, lowers due to recession...which jobs go first...exactly. That being said we could all have the cars we want with lower population, and that doesn't just mean illegal immigration or even legal immigration...that includes everything. Another point I do want to make is that many of are portraying the American greed that makes other countries hate us. You think about yourselves and how this car is all you care about. Well...while you don't care about guzzling $4.00/gal gas in your big engine sports car, monster truck, or Escalade...all you are doing is consuming more and more and perpetuating the cost increase and hurting everyone else. You can get great performance out of 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder cars too. Someday we can go back to the glory muscle car days...but now definitely isn't the time to be flaunting it. The argument about good gas mileage in a Corvette...you are a salesman's dream. My brother's 2005 Mustang gets crappy gas mileage and he doesn't even drive it hard. You will never get the sticker mileage unless you keep speed at 55 mph, take 30 seconds to get up to freeway speed, feather the brakes when slowing down or coasting, etc. I don't know ANYONE who would drive a Corvette/Camaro/Mustang, etc. like that, except old people (just visit Palm Springs, CA and see the slow abuse Ferraris are subject to). Even I shake my head in disgust or laugh at someone wasting a sports car. That's life and something we'll have to get used to.

none:

Hey guys.. i just FARTED

Topper:

That brake looks awfully small. May be it's because of the wheel, but it looks like the Charger has bigger brake. I do like the look of it. Heck, both the Camaro and the Charger look better than that piece of crap Mustang.

MeGaDeTh:

You haters are all fu*ken retards. Show me any new ricer that looks nearly as cool as this... mpg? this is going to be a beast with some torque unlike these little high winding, whining lil turbo four bangers. You don't buy this as a family car... This car looks like its got some tude. There will be alot of them but thats going to be expected. Sophistication, refinement? get a beamer for your status symbol noob... You don't get it. I'd like to do a big ditry burnout right in front of your house at 2am... One that sets off your overpriced car's alarm and triggers all your motion detector lights.. MuHAA! > ) \n|m

Polynikes:

All cars look better in black, IMO.

JIM:

@ Your Mama

No, Salma Hayek looks like sex. This car looks like a rejected Mustang mockup.

It'd be ok really, except for the rear-end. It's just too over-stylized to the point that it looks like it belongs on a BMW.

Topper:

Rejected Mustang? In that case, Ford should start digging through their thrash bin and bring back that rejected model.

Tommy Boy:

Topper

Don't you mean the Camaro and Challenger?

mbw:

It looks like a muscle car. I think the black looks better. Then again, white is dumb.

James:

When this first came out I was not really impressed. But as time has passed I've really grown to like it. If priced right and it has the right transmission this owuld be a car I'd love to own.

As for the fuel mileage over everything else crowd, this car will likely get decent mileage when driven sanely. I currently have a 1997 Camaro SS with a 5.7L LT1 in it. At 80 mph in 6th gear the engine RPMs are a little above idle, and I average about 24 on the highway. I'd liek to see this car with a 7-speed in it, the top end would be insane and would get great mileage when on the freeway. (Looks like they are making a hybrid model as well)

As to the looks, there are definite cues to the '69 Camaro there and I personally think it looks like a 69 Camaro thats been redesigned by Cadiliac. If you don't like it fine, but what are you comparing it to? Lately the japanese imports seem to be in a race as to who can make the ulgiest cars and thus far Toyota/Scion is winning.

Despite the fact that alot of GM's vehicles are comparable in mileage to the japanese imports and the quality is on par if not better now than them, they can't get any credit. If Toyotas are so great why they still have a 3yr/36k warranty? I know people that bought the new Tundra and are on their 2nd engine and transmission, 1 friend is looking at turning it in under the lemon law.

Point is, I like this car, looks sweet in black and if they put the right trans in it it will be an all around great car.

Rich Prick:

I wish you guys that like this car would quit posting idiotic comments. Your bad grammar and childish, argumentative attitude do nothing but further the cause of the high-mpg-only club. If you have an opinion, voice it in a noncombative way in a cohesive, coherent sentence. There are itelligent upper class people who enjoy muscle cars as well. We're not all ignorant, inbred, over-the-top rednecks.

gm0n3y:

Most of it looks better in black, but as mentioned above, the chrome around the taillights ruins the back-end. I also don't like the 'smiling' front grille. Make the car look less big too while you're at it, its too bulbous looking.

Allen:

Still looks ugly. Hell, a Bangled BMW looks better.

Cove:

@ Megadeth:

I then have to get up from bed and follow you and your 1981 POS pick up truck back to your trailer park and interupt you while you're trying to bang your sister. I'd then make it clear to you that trailer trash is not welcomed in my "upscale" neighborhood anymore by shoving your beer stained wife beater down your throat, strapping your greasy mullet to the bumper of my "upscale" car and dragging your filthy inbred body behind it.

jcwbnimble:

The black version definitely looks better. In white, it looks like some souped up Honda Accord coup. The styling is OK, but it looks like it rides way to high for a performance car.

If Chevy (and GM) want to turn things around, they need to spend less time on these niche platforms and start focussing on the everyday drivers. The Malibu and G8 GT are a start, but wasting R&D money on the camaro just means other vehicles aren't getting enough resources.

rmesux:

$110.00/BAREL.......ENJOY THE LOOKS OF THIS CAR WHILE U CAN.

wayne gretzky:

In 35 years everyone will be kicking themselves for not buying one of these when they had the chance. People don't collect AMC Gremlins, or early Honda's, they collect musclecars.

Alexvrb:

"That brake looks awfully small. May be it's because of the wheel, but it looks like the Charger has bigger brakes."
Even if the Charger/Challenger have bigger rotors, that doesn't mean they'll stop better. The braking performance of the Camaro will be excellent, if the G8 GT is any indication (and in this case, it is). The G8 GT completely spanks the Charger in braking, and this trend will continue when comparing Challenger to Camaro. Read the articles below.

"When this first came out I was not really impressed. But as time has passed I've really grown to like it. If priced right and it has the right transmission this owuld be a car I'd love to own."
It's likely going to have the same tranny options as their other RWD performance vehicles, which means that both the 6 speed AT and MT options will be solid.

"I currently have a 1997 Camaro SS with a 5.7L LT1 in it. At 80 mph in 6th gear the engine RPMs are a little above idle, and I average about 24 on the highway. I'd liek to see this car with a 7-speed in it, the top end would be insane and would get great mileage when on the freeway."
LS engines are already more efficient. For the transmission, a good proven 6-speed is a better idea than them hastily slapping together a 7-speed for likely no benefit. It's all going to come down to the gearing.

"The Malibu and G8 GT are a start, but wasting R&D money on the camaro just means other vehicles aren't getting enough resources."
They will get all their money back on this one, especially considering the fact that they share platforms (and design cost) among multiple cars. In addition to doing their own work here, they've been bringing a lot of successful designs over from Opel and Holden recently. Which is smart of them.
