Better solution - send out a mass snail mail letter that lets everyone know that not wearing a seatbelt can lead to death ANYWAY, and don't bother "fixing" the airbags that don't sound to be broken, anyway.
And stop the B.S. myth that NOT wearing a seatbelt is SAFER since you "won't get snagged." I'd rather be upside down, IN A SEAT, than upside down, IN A WINDSHIELD!!
It's about time Americans wisen up when it comes to.. well, everything, but vehicles and vehicular safety specifically.

Can't rag on Ford for this one, sounds like a common sense issue (or lack of one on the part of whoever sued Ford over this - you know that's what happened).

It's sad Ford has to spend so much money for nonsense like this. This is why cars cost so much. Crap like this...

Small and >> unbelted << could get injured by the airbag? Hmmm, "unbelted" seems like the real issue here.

I second the surprise that they actually managed to sell 470,000 of those shitboxes.

Sounds like this recall is to re-program the vehicle to protect Ford from getting sued by an idiot who lets the kids free roam in the car, and not actually change any components.
Peanut, your car (and every other car) is polluted with electronic modules. The recall may involve changing one, and it may be under that seat. Or possibly a sensor in the seat itself. I'll find out tomorrow to kill my curiosity.
Ford is able to sell those s-boxes every year because they didn't wimp out like other manufacturers on a RWD sports car. They come apart as easily as Lego's, which makes for easy upgrades. And they still have a wide open market for a couple more years until Dodge gets their butt off the toilet and gets the Challenger configured for the masses. No idea what market Chevy is targeting with the Camaro.

There always seems to be something wrong with Ford Vehicles. Anyway, I love Ford.

they didnt do anything wrong with these cars or the airbag system. ford is fixing a problem that they shouldnt have to worry about. if a parents had a small unbelted kid in the front seat, they would find a way to blame ford if the airbag came out and hurt the child. as far as the airbag system is concerned, there was no hole in the quality control dept., ford is just protecting themselves from people who are careless and want to blame others for their problems.

I checked into OASIS and looked up this recall today. It's a simple re-programming of a module.
Unless you are a bad parent or really worried about a bag of groceries on the passenger seat, i wouldn't bother getting something "fixed" that isn't broken.
