Mugen Modifies the 2008 Honda Accord is it Inspiring?

2008_honda_inspire_mugen_2_small.jpg
Mugen has unveiled its tuner kit for the 2008 Honda Inspire, which is essentially the Japanese version of the U.S. spec Honda Accord.

The kit includes a modified grille, front spoiler, side sills, rear apron and a very large rear spoiler. To improve the vehicle's performance Mugen has added a modified exhaust which should squeeze out a little more power thanks to better breathing. Upgraded brakes, a new sports suspension and new aluminum wheels are also included.

Would you like to see a kit like this available on the U.S. Accord?

hater:

Yeah, now it looks like a bloated Saturn L 200 with cheap ground effects, wind deflectors and a Mugen license plate.

Mathew:

take off the wind deflectors and i'm all there.

Joan of Arc:

Please! An exhaust setup, rims, brakes, and suspension? Hopefully the suspension is worth it, because I don't think a car deserves a special name with just those kind of products. Ah well... I was never into Mugen anyway.

Mike:

I don't like it at all. I don't mind body kits on cars, but they need to go with the lines of the car. That body kit looks like it was designed for another car and just stuck on the Accord...it does nothing to make the car look better, just cheaper. Looks just like the guys with the Pep Boys body kits that go on their cars unpainted.

Cheap Car Lover:

What a joke... It looks horrible.

The accord will never be a fast or cool car.

Alex:

Looks like a Holden to me.

Gary:

@Cheap Car Lover:

The V6 accord is actually a pretty quick car, running 0-60 in something like 6.1 seconds. Not exactly slow, and faster than just about any American sedan out now. I love how stupid some people are. Judging by your name, I'll leave the cool comment alone.

carluver:

I like it but I think they could do more from a hp perspective than just an exhaust kit. It is basically like what Nissan did with the Altima making the SER. I'm just not sure if they will make a lot of success with it over here. I don't think Nissan made many SER's and I am sure if Honda decided to sell them here it would be a limited edition like the SRT-8's or like what they did with the 240hp Mugen honda late last year.

You know those people whom the Fast and the Furious tried to capture? Not the 16 year old poser market, but those people who actually lived like that before the movie, that the directors based the movie on?

Well they are all grown up and need room for little Timmy and Tammy. Mugen grants them the rights to, however, maintain a little bit of style.

Other than that, this car hopefully will only be a collectors item, I'd hate to see this on the streets 24/7 during a commute though.

Joan of Arc:

@ Allen:

Seriously, the people that fast and furious is based on would probably modify their own cars, and find their own style of body kits. This looks like it would appeal to your middle-class teen who gets to choose his/her own car for their 16th birthday.

Kell:

I want to start off by saying I think the Accord is a great car. The base bodystyle is a bit boring (steathy), but it is quick with the V6 option, well-built, has a good interior and gauges/controls, and handles very well for a family car/commuter.

about this one..
The body kit does not look integrated. I don't understand body kits that have to stick out in the wind unnecessarily. That increases drag, and the only worthwhile trade-off would be downforce, and the majority of those panels don't do that. To me this bodykit was designed for what someone considers 'styling'.
Performance is what I look for in a sports car. Duh. Why are there no performance figures? The power mods are exhaust, brakes, wheels and bodykit. That's worth maybe 25HP at best, and I'm not sure that justifies new brakes, as the stock units were good.

Every ricer in town (plus others) will want to run you when they see the bodykit, and you will lose. Not fun.
Is it worth 35-40K? Not to me.

D:

Hmmm, with all those plastic bits I'm sure they'll inflate the price to TL territory. If you buy an Accord over a TL you need help.

Gary:

$35k-$40k? Where'd you get those numbers? If Honda prices this car anywhere close to those prices, they've lost their minds. If they can keep this car to about $31k it would sell pretty good, but anything above that and they're crazy.

I just don't think the Accord has quite the "modder" following that the Civic has, thus they won't be able to slap a really high price on it and still have it sell, like the Mugen SI.

neosoul:

mugen makes ridiculously expensive crap. They're like an uber honda fan boy part. And have you seen a fully loaded Accord? It isn't cheap by any standard - add the high premium for mugen parts, well you get the picture.

And I didn't like the new accord style to begin with, looks like a Acura TL with grotesque features :x

hate:

@Gary

A "looks & performance" optioned accord already costs 36K, so of course this is going to be more.

Noah:

Guys this car is not for the US.

It's an Accord! An ACOOOOOOOORD!
I own an Accord. It's not, nor shall it ever be, a race car.

Saabaholic:

I hate the look of Hondas, but you people DO realize that Mugen is one of those few companies that actually test their spoilers/lips/air-dams/skirts/however-you-want-to-call-them in wind tunnels, right? However, I don't see why you'd want a rear spoiler that huge on a car that's under 300 hp...Heck, even the STI's rear spoiler is too big a beast.

Eddie:

Not horrible...

...but its also NOT WORTH 35K!!!

I just got a certified-pre-owned 03 Accord 2dr coupe (2.4l I4 K24a4), it cost 13k, plus financing...

Hell, even if I bought a new one id get the cheap 4-bangin base model for what is it? 20k?

And from there Id sink a fraction of the price difference into engine/susp./brakes/other and have a faster, better handling car.

However, even if I did all that, Id keep it looking stock, maybe a simple body kit. Nah, no body kit, pure sleeper goodness.

Billy Pfenninger:

I'm a proud 2008 Accord owner. I went from a high Audi that blew the engine after 50K miles. My car is loades and the Diamond Pearl paint job makes it look sharp. My car gets looks all the time. I think the body kit looks cool except for the high spoiler.

ali mohd:

the car accord itself is gud.. the kit looks like its a sport car..... but the speed does not go with it.. there should be more engine modification.. to make it faster.. i own an accord gulf specs.. four cylinder but it is not faster at all..not even than an 07 four cylinder accord.. any advice...

GTXMDPG:

I own a 2008 Honda Accord LX P. Before owning I tried the 07 Acord for a month. I terms of acceleration both the cars are evenly matched, the 08 would be marginally slower due to it being heavier. But its definitely more spacious and comfortable then the 07.It also has a lot of features not found in the 07 model. The pearl whie looks sharp and I am looking to modify it in an understated way. I have decided to blacken the rear lights and add black alloys or maybe black and silver alloys. Free flow exhaust. I have noticed that a smaller wing will not suit the aesthetics of the shape. ... In all it is quite sporty and quick when needed and a VFM buy.

tj wilson:

where can i buy tuner kit for the 2008 Honda Inspire, which is essentially the Japanese version of the U.S. spec Honda Accord

Le:

the accord has potential....its engine is very powerful the onli reason y it may seem slow is because of the way it was tuned----if u replace the ecu chip...it will proberli be faster then alot of cars....but yea if u want a race car ud proberli get a type r...but accords a sexc

edgar:

wooooooooooooooooow! thats going to be my next mission buy me that accord i got a 94 accord and nothing looks ilike like this one

lol the wing is a riot. thanks for the laugh.

accord i-4:

i own an 09 Lx-P accord, it runs fine, the acceleration is crap compared to the v-6 variant. you feel the difference between the two by a mile. But i believe even with an inline 4 the accord would be a good car to modify, it handles better than alot of sedans i've driven. it just feels like honda really tried to suffocate the car's potential to be fast and tried to make it a luxury car instead. but if people wanted a luxury they should have went for the TL. by the way the body kit looks weird, the front and back end looks good, but everything else is so-so for me instead of making limited edition cars they should be making performance parts for this car
