GM Releases More Spy Photos of the Chevy Camaro

gm_camaro_prototype.jpg
GM has released a second image of a Camaro prototype undergoing testing.

Last week Bob Lutz ordered that all camouflage be removed from the Chevy Camaro prototypes so that further aerodynamic and cooling efficiency testing can be done. GM also released on shot of the rear of the car at that time and now we have a second one.

longdxcommuter:

Overall, I like the profile. I would like to see one in person.

rumptis:

I saw the prototype at the Indy Auto show a week or so ago...its awesome.

It looks like they haven't changed much on the outside form the photos.

Oion Styles:

Wow, the first thing I thought when I saw that was "Mustang". Clear miss by Chevy.

Krazeee:

You know, it looks great, but I gotta say, unless you're 6' or taller, checking you're blind spot in those "chop-top" windows is going to be a bit rough if you ask me. I'm a short 5'6"...5'7" on a good day, and I never enjoy turning my head to check traffic only to have half my vision blocked by the upper part of the door and the c-pillar looming over. Don't get me wrong, the car looks dang sexy, but as a shorter individual, that's just something I notice...

Maybe I'll just sit on a phone book or something...

Oh and Oion....Mustang?...Maybe in the sense they're both "muscle" cars but honestly, have you seen a Mustang recently? Completely different lines.

JD:

Krazee, you can't be certain you'll have that problem with this car unless you sit in one.

Kell:

The styling isn't for everyone, but I like it a lot, especially from the 3/4 rear angle shot. That's the visual you will have as it passes you, incidentally. There's definitely no mistaking it for a "chick" car. I would like to see one in blue with dual white stripes down the middle, a la 1969 Z/28. Or maybe silver with dual black stripes. I wonder how much it weighs, how it handles with the new IRS, etc. Need a test drive.

Brandon:

Well, Krazeee, I have to admit, like Oion, the fist thing I thought when I saw it was "Mustang". It doesent look anything like my old Camaro. It looks a lot more like a mustang to me.

bliq:

Brandon,

Do you mean like 69 camaro or like 93 camaro because while this is a departure from the F-Body, it does bear an evolutionary connection to the first generation camaro(es?).

It looks a little bulky to me, but all is forgiven if it's fast and handles well.

o:

noall the proportions are stuffed up and the headlights suck its to mustang looking now just build the concept the way it as

Jacob:

If you have problems checking the blindspot by one of those inverted mirrors for your side view mirrors. Problem solved.

Jake:

If GM releases the photos, are they really "spy photes"?

Diesel:

You see, If something like this would be offered with an efficient, not necessarily super sports car engine or a high power diesel like Audi, BMW or Benz have in their lineup, this could also sell like hot cakes in Europe.

I would have one then because the styling is actually cool.

Biil :

Damn, that is ugly.

Remy LeBeau:

Looks good.........but it looked better when it had the brake vents and such by the wheel wells.

Oh, and after comparing this to the one in Transformers.......I'm thinking for stylistic reasons, GM should only sell them with stripes. Just one solid color doesn't look so hot.

Cargasm:

That thing is horrible looking. Hopefully it won't have a cheap ass interior, handle like a bus, and get 10mpg. GM never disappoints me with their lack of sophistication.

rene:

looks like another dead-end for the american car industry

crawlgsx:

How is it a spy photo if GM releases it....

Gary:

Looks pretty good IMO, but I'd still rather take the RWD Hyundai Coupe coming out. I just can't trust GM reliability as much as Hyundai's. I've seen too many Chevy's & Pontiacs with cracked dashes, misaligned panels, and cheap feeling fabric to be interested yet. Aside from that most of their cars seem to look like on giant piece of injection molded plastic.

kw:

I like this better than the concept (whose nose was way too long, imo.) Over all it still looks too heavy to my eyes, and that's exaggerated by the monoblock white color of this specimen. This white makes it look like a big, heavy marshmallow.

Still, give it a coat of a more hued, slightly metallic paint, and maybe a hint of detail chrome (badge in the grill, door handles, badges on the rear bumper, not much else) and I think it'll look pretty good.

After that, it's all about how well the hardware works. Pictures can't convey that.

dennisil:

Bob Lutz your retarded.

Twilight:

I wonder how it will perform against the Challanger SRT-8.

Meobius:

The back end is too bulky and not clean like it was in the old ones, the hood is a few feet too short, the roof looks way too modern, no rear spoiler and the front isn't aggresive enough

dennisil:

Bob Lutz is as queer as a 10$ bill.

jfelano:

Its looks a lot like a mustang you say? No crap, if you remember the mustangs and camaros looked a lot alike in the old days too. Coincidence?

JD:

IF they want fuel economy, then why don't they stop putting snow plows on all their newer vehicles? All of the new trucks have a flat squared surface leading to more drag & less aerodynamic. They must have forgotten about the 50 mpg carbureted car they killed off 40+ years ago.....
