Last month there was some speculation that the entry price would be $34k for the GSR, but it looks like the official price is going to come in a little cheaper. The 2008 EVO X GS-R will start at $32,990, which isn't that bad until you start adding the options.
The Sight, Sound, and Spoiler Package that includes HID headlights, the 650-watt audio system, large rear spoiler plus a few other things adds an extra $2,000 to the price. If you want the 30GB navigation system that will cost you an additional $2,000. An Accessory Aero Kit which includes front, side and rear airdams costs another $2,000.
These are just the prices and accessories for the GS-R trim. The MR model with the twin-clutch transmission is still rumored to cost close to $40,000.

It is a great car! Mind you, it is not just another car with a more than average engine power, it is actually a rally car with all the important characteristics of one!
I am looking forward for it hitting continental Europe as now it is only available in UK.
Anyway I will have to wait a bit longer as the price is quite steep ^^

Overpriced. The high end buyer will go for a nicer car, the low end can barely afford it on their 25k/year salary. With the global recession just starting up, automakers need to make CHEAPER cars, not this overpriced stuff.

This is a purpose built car for all the haters. The will be releasing the Lancer Rallyart with 240hp and AWD for 23-24K later this year, its already done.

Overpriced hahaha, oh man good one.
Quick name something else with AWD, nearly 300 hp, a 4.8~5.2 second 0~60, that holds .99G on the skid pad, and will lap a 3 minute track 15 seconds ahead of a Mustang GT, consistantly. Now name something that will do that for this price or less.
I am waiting.
Anyways it seems like a lot to pay for a Lancer I will grant you that but if you actualy look at what your geting it's a performance bargin.

Problem is...it is STILL built like a Mitsu / Lancer. That's what make it overpriced. Trust me - take it from a 2-time owner of turbo Mitsu's that spanned across 10 years total. The service isn't that great, the products have "issues", the built quality is OK but went down from the past excellence, and a company that simply seems too large to really care.
It *certainly* wasn't the worst ownership experience...but I've had / am having much better. 32K to go through the bumps and grinds of ownwership again?
No thanks. 32K gets you a CTS or an IS...cars, IMHO (of course), better built with better long-term ownership pleasure AND better dealer service. In reality...you simply CAN'T use all the ability that Mistu claims this car has on the street. Let's be real, shall we??! I'm all for high-po, but there is a limit to reality. In the land of 55 / 65, getting abused by a punishing ride and so-so long-term quality...just ain't worth it!

You guys just don't get it. This car doesn't compete with a CTS. And every EVO since the 1992 original has been based on a Lancer chassis. Do you see any other car manufacturer, with the exception of Subaru, that can take a low-end car chassis and bolt on AWD and nearly a 300hp engine with tranny to go with it? it just goes to show just how versatile the Lancer really is.
And lets be real folks. Most people who are earning 25k/yr are not thinking about buying an EVO-type car. They're buying used Civics, Sentras, and Cavaliers.
And let's not forget, while 32k may buy you a CTS, it'll also get you a Sebring (before the obscene amounts of rebates and cash back offers). So in reality I GUESS you can do lots worse than an EVO. But then again, the EVO doesn't really compete with these cars does it?

I can't remember that last time I've seen many new mitsu's on the road. How the hell are they in business? Must have followed dodge and taken a loan.

Actually I head that Mitsubishi is back in the black, they managed to stream line their operation, trim some dead weight cars from their lineup, and Restyle the Endeavor, Eclipse and Lancer all with some success. I hope that Mitsubishi continues to do well. I Like the Evo a lot I would hate to see it fall out of production because there is no company left to produce it.

Eh, i think those of you who complain are forgetting the finer points. As it was stated earlier, for a 4 cyl 300 HP rally car, this is one hell of a bargain. People who make 30k or lower a year probably wouldn't even turn their heads if this car drove by, let alone go in extreme debt just to own one. Cars in this price range and above are for enthusiast and thats it. Mitsubishi has plenty of inexpensive cars for those of us who could care less about HP and more about MPG! This same argument goes along in the computer world as well, cost is usually not an issue for the hardcore enthusiast... end of story.

Ahhh the Subaru Impreza is a much better built car than a crappy old Mitsubishi any day. Get the Subaru.

Guys get a clue. Most of you have none regarding this car. This is not just a Lancer. The Evolution is on its tenth generation of refinement. It's a WRC car with a legacy spanning decades overseas. It hit the U.S. in 2003 for the first time. This is the tuner car direct from the factory with a warranty.
The EVO is a for a buying segment that recently rose to popularity in the U.S. Some younger tuner types want that type of car but one that is backed by the manfacturer.
Someone suggested buying a CTS instead? This car handles with surgical precision. With its AWD and powerful turbo I'd love to see this car up against a CTS, 'neckstang, and even the Impreza. One poster is right: This car has a rough ride. You feel every crack on the road but no other car can handle this the EVO for the price. None. Even the Impreza. Its not for everyone.
But for those of you that knocked it, I suggest you take one out for a test drive before you compare it against ANYTHING in its price range. The EVO is an incredible performance package. And many will enjoy and admire the prestige of it.

I like the Evo as it fills it's niche very well. I think it's worth 33K. At an optioned-out 40K though, it will be a stretch. That puts it up there with the big boys. That said, a true enthusiast will get a stripper model not a bloater.
As with all performance cars, I wouldn't recommend commuting with them. Get a 4cyl beater for commuting, or your fuel bill will be like another big car payment. Plus it will save wear and tear on your baby :P
I wonder what the weight is?

@ Chaser
Well said! I think the majority of the people knocking this car forget what class it falls under, not to mention the performance to price ratio. 300 Horses, 4 cylinders, a turbo, all the bells and whistles one could ask for... along with a warranty. Sounds like gold to me.
It really bothers me when a 4 cylinder tuner is compared to a luxury v8 sedan. How could you possibly classify a CTS in the same tier as an Evolution? .

Being a practical person I would never even consider this car. Where the heck could you drive it and experience its full potential. Not on the highways and byways. Unless you have access to a race track this is a waste of performance.
I had my 1996 Honda Odyssey 2.2 liter 4 banger up to 100 mph once. Only for about a half mile.Yea the Mistu is faster but who in their right mind would go much faster than I did "I was stupid" on a regular highway. In some states like Virginia if you are going too fast over the limit they can put you in jail right on the spot and impound your vehicle.
IMO most practical cars are fast enough.

never owned or driven an EVO but i would say it looks great!!!!!! lol and the service issues i don't mind since living in hawaii you only get service for hondas, so whatever you buy, you won't get ten different service areas so i would buy it lol i think we got a few already (not this model of course)!!! AWD right?!?! that would excellent since it rains here everyday =( lol!!!!

There is nothing that compares to having sheer power of the EVO in your hands. Yes...you can have a gas saver pulling 30+ down the freeway coughing up a storm...but where would be the fun in that? It is amazing how having speed when you need it most helps, especially when you have morons pulling in lanes towards you and doing other than smart driving. This car sells itself with all the bells and whistles that you need. This is not for everyone...sissies not apply.
