Geneva 2008 Preview: Mitsubishi Lancer Prototype S Unveiled?

mitsubishi_lancer_prototype_s_2.jpg
Supposedly these sketches are of the Mitsubishi Lancer Prototype S that the automaker is going to unveil at the Geneva Auto Show in March.

The sketch looks very similar to the Sportback concept, but with a new front end that better aligns it with the rest of the Lancer models. The rear of the car has also been reworked.

When the new Sportback does make it into production you can expect it to come with the same 2.4L 4-cyl in the 2009 Lancer GTS and an EVO version with the 2.0L turbocharged engine. If demand is high enough we may also see a Ralliart version of the Sportback.

Stay tuned...

Scott:

I'm not a hatchback fan at all but this looks pretty slick, wouldt even consider purchasing one for sports and hauling everyone to the ski hills over a small SUV

don:

Yeah it slooke like the Ralliart in hb form

Gary:

Looks like a Lancer spawned with a Chevy Malibu Maxx. Hopefully the actual car will look better than a drawing.

James:

It's got the aggressive front end of the evolution which is rather attractive. I've never been one for hatchbacks either until i drove a Honda civic SI hatchback and immediately fell in love with it. With a few minor body modifications and a turbocharged engine this would be something i would certainly consider purchasing!

Andrew:

I don't find it looks bad at all. We need more hatchback cars in the States.

Unfortunately, people like to have things covered up to take it. (A reference toward consumer choice flavored liquid prescriptions).

gm0n3y:

Looks good from the front / side, the back looks a little off. I don't mind HBs when executed properly. This one needs a little work though, I hope the actual concept looks better.

Travis:

It looks good get it on the market within a next year and in Ralliart form and I will buy it instead of the sedan. Having said that though, I really liked the sportback design better. And the Rear end looks like a little to much like that of the WRX hatchback.

Mike:

I'd definitely consider an Evo version of that hatchback. I like it a lot more than a sedan...It's nice to see a little change here and there. I even like the new STi.

Brian:

It really looks like the Lancer from the front mated to either a CX-7 or an FX55 in the rear. I'm not a HB fan, and frankly I want to see a coupe version of either the Lancer or the STi. And I'm pretty sure there has never been a coupe version of the Evo, but now is as good a time to start as ever.

Long live the Imprezza 22B! drool.......

Gerry:

I am glad they finally decided to bring the sportback possibly into production. I will be the first one on the line when they start selling the Evo version of the hatch.

I have to say the original Sportback concept was much better looking. They SHOULD keep as much of that as possible.

Mathew:

Thats not a hatchback/sportback. Its just a sedan with the a spoiler above the rear window.

Kell:

EVO Coupe! Yes!

This design is attractive to me, and I'm partial to the utility of a 2-door hatch design after owning one. The rear reminds me of a Mazdaspeed3, but lowered and sloped in. It won't be my commuter car, but it may make a good weekend car depending on weight and power. I'll take a test drive.

If it comes to Canada, forget about Mazda Speed 3, I am getting this one.
