Aston Martin has officially unveiled a sketch of the Vantage GT2 racing car that is based on the V8 Vantage.

The Vantage GT2 can run on either racing fuel or E85 bio-ethanol. The new introduction of the GT2 means that Aston Martin will now have a GT car in every racing category (GT1 – DBR9, GT2 – Vantage GT2, GT3 – DBRS9, GT4 – Vantage N24).

The Vantage GT2 will be officially unveiled next week at the Autosport International Show.

PRESS RELEASE:

Aston Martin Racing reveals Vantage GT2

Aston Martin Racing has revealed the first impressions of its new GT2 racing car.

Known as the Vantage GT2, the new car is based on the V8 engined Aston Martin Vantage road car. The new car will mean Aston Martin is the only manufacturer to offer cars in every GT racing category: GT1 – DBR9; GT2 – Vantage GT2; GT3 – DBRS9; GT4 – Vantage N24.

For the first time, Aston Martin Racing is designing this car to run on either standard race fuel or E85 bio-ethanol (where regulations allow). In 2007, Aston Martin Racing successfully converted a standard DBRS9 to run on E85.

Robin Brundle, Aston Martin Racing's new managing director, said: "The new Vantage GT2 completes our product portfolio for 2008 with competitive cars now available in every category. Thanks to our experience with the DBRS9, we have been able to develop a bio-ethanol fuelled version, which will be eligible to compete in an increasing number of series now accommodating this greener fuel, including the American Le Mans Series."

Aston Martin chairman, David Richards, will be announcing Aston Martin Racing's 2008 plans at the Autosport International show on Thursday 10 January at 10.45 am.

Sam:

I'm still waiting on my 2008 BMW M3 coupe. Corvette ZR1 would destroy this Astin Martin and only $100,000 G's.

Arthur:

First: those two cars are totaly diffrent classes..

Second: ZR1 has never been raced, so its engine might be a POS.

Third: its a chevy supercar vs luxury sports coup. (diffrent markets)

If you are talking about on a street race . Yea it will definetly blow the doors off that aston.

But I can blow the doors off 328i's with my subaru wrx.
See the comparison?

It just doesn't work.

RX-7 Guy:

It's a GT2 if made it would be a supercar calling it anything less would be like calling a wrx an off-road station wagon.

neosoul:

ZR1 will absolutely not destroy a GT2. Can you guys please seperate street cars from barely street cars (like this one)?

This is a track tuned beast, it's even unfair to compare it to a street ZR1. HP is definitely not everything in this case, especially against a car that's barely street legal.

RX-7 Guy:

I don't which would be faster but the last Z06 was able to compete with GT2 cars on the track.

Rob:

Street car can not be compared with race cars. A street Z06 is an awesome car but it would be helplessly last if anyone tried to race it stock in a GT2 series. (No one would be so dumb to do it anyway)

Nick:

A lot of the differences you're all talking about are BS frankly. I've seen real comparisons between the top u.s street cars and the European luxury course cars. As of late, typically the cheaper american made car out performs both on the street and on a tight performance course. I don't know if the issue is a lack of engineering direction in the euro cars or what. I just know I'd pick a Ford GT or GTX1 before any of the overpriced and over praised crap I've seen come out of Europe this past decade. For performance and style frankly.

unknown:

Aston martins have always been gt cars, the zr1 which is in the same class at the viper acr both are barely legal street cars. Aston martins have never been able to compete very well with the cars in their price category its more or less a james bond car something that is very nice looking very nice to drive but not the one that takes the checkered flag. If you want to compair this to its european rivals its going against the porshe gt3 which it isnt going to be as fast the ferrari 430 not sure if there still making that which has alot more pedigree and is anothing great car to drive as well as the lambo gallardo which will probably be as fast if not faster then this car. If you take price in to account there is only a few american cars that will go against this. The ford gt was the last car and its not really a race car so it doesnt count and the corvette z06 which is faster and the viper which is as fast as the z06. Either way this car will be a nice car to drive.

rene:

another Thomas the Tank engine.

When do these guys realise that they are dead?

Kell:

I have always loved the styling of the Vantage line. :)

Nou feit:

It isn't really fair to say a ZR1 would destroy this car. They aren't even in the same league. Just for the record, R&T published a comparison between the Porsche Carrera GT and the 911 GT2 (racing version), and the GT2 was 9 seconds faster a lap than the Carrera. And just for the record, an Italian magazine, don't remember which one was it, made a lap time comparison between the Carrera and the Enzo, and the Carrera was faster by more or less 1 second. So it's fair to say that on the track the Aston would absolutely destroy the Vette.

Clueless guy. Just hint that the GT he reveres so much is a British design (as it was the GT40), with British chassis, Italian brakes and German electronics. America only brought the muscle in.

BTW, the Z06 has been deemed to be as rubbish as a street car as it is good on the tracks. If you want speed for your bucks, go by an Ariel Atom or an Elise. If you want an everyday supercar, don't believe in miracles, and buy Japanese or European.

cruse:

love aston martin as a cruising car or something to look at but idk if i would ever race it!?!?! maybe if you tempt me bad enough lol!!!! i will just enjoy the more affordable cars for now lol not that rich hehe!!!!

Tommy Boy:

I would like to see this thing go head to head with a Viper SRT10 ACR.
